Saturday late night at Maison Dakota. Pop and poured. Tasted over 3 hours. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, yellow gold colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of ripe citrus lemon, tropical fruit pineapple, honeyed nuts, some stony minerality and oatmeal. Developed. On the palate, dry, just barely high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium+ body. Medium+ flavour, with flavours of tropical fruit pineapple, ripe citrus lemon, honeyed nuts, stony minerality, saltiness. Long mealy concentrated finish. Good quality. Lots of concentration and ripe fruit substance which is commendable, though the overall package leaves me hankering for more precision and focus. Ain't no one able to guess this as a Chablis in a blind. Feels like better to drink up sooner rather than any later.

Decanted and served and little decant definitely helps here. Of course no premox issues albeit there was a touch of noble oxidation on the finish which sort of blended away as the wine got in full stride. Side by side with the La Forest 2016 ( Papies 92-93) and this was for sure the more ready and felt at peak and aromatically was a lot more expressive. Quit a bit of a floral feel along with the flinty citrus and was a head turner wine to those who tried it without knowing what was coming to them. Mineral but also with a richness of fruit and a soft waxy texture. Really pretty wine and a good 93-94. Better drink sooner than later as this is at peak now and albeit it will last one definitely needs to try this now.

91 pts

Not a classic rendition. Quite open, rounder in the mouth than expected. Not totally balanced maybe, missing the iodine notes and real cut and cleanliness ideal. Not a bad bottle of wine at all, but not classic Chablis. Opens up with food and air

Dauvissat plus X Tasting (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): *** all wines tasted blind *** Glass: Zalto Bordeaux Clear, medium golden color. Deep, beautiful herbaceous nose with some fine oak. Surprisingly to see that this was for me the best wine of this flight. Wonderful minerality, beautiful texture and tension. Very tight and precise. Very deep and long. Still young and with good upscale potential. 92-93+

Utregs Wijnhuis proeverij Exclusief (Utrecht): Tasted blind - Pale yellow in color, aromas developed in the glass; manderins, minerality, a bit of anise, lemon, a hint of vanilla. Developed into something that resembled a tighter version of 1 cru Meursault. A bit creamy in the mouth with a long finish

Medium lemon, and starbright. Ripe peach aromas with some barley and hay, then grey stones. Soft and ripe, peachy, but acids still tart, then towards the back some clove spices, vanilla, brine and stones. Quite a good length, and fairly complex

[Utregs Wijnhuis Proeverij] Feels still very young, very subtle nose, citrus, hints of honey, a lactic/yoghurt taste in the finish. High acids. Served blind, I had difficulties recognizing the region, my guess was a Chenin Blanc from the Loire

Gyllen gul. Sitter medium+ i munnen

This one already shows signs of some oxidative notes of hay and toffee both on the nose and the palate even though the signs are more significantly present on the palate. Anyway the concentration of citrus, melon and salty stone makes up for it and makes it very much enjoyable. Fresh with steely edges combined with medium fatness. 90+ points.

HDH auction at Spiaggia (Chicago, IL): Frankly, this is just too young. It's very bright and lifted, with an almost floral element on the nose. Honeyed on the attack, with a bit of a thinness on the midpalate, followed by a good dose of green herbs on the finish. Pleasant enough, but honestly a bit of a confounding like most Dauvissat for me.

This is fresh and tasty, but it lacks the cut, energy and intensity of the '17 tasted in April at the domaine in Chablis. It's a bit round and soft for my tastes. A bottle of '16 Dauvissat Sechet that I brought to the Berkshires in March was more interesting to me (although that wine also wasn't a classic Dauvissat meant for the cellar). In the Berkshires.

Dauvissat Vaillons 2016. Litt svak i mellompartiet. 90p

Sunday blinds (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Mild reduction on the nose, with a bit of banana and pineapple. Quite lean and steely on the palate, but hardly a complex wine. A little nutty and oily here as well, and there seems to be a slight bit of neutral oak here. Not quite racy enough in my mind to be chardonnay, I guessed that this was a Loire chenin.

Domain Vincent Dauvissat 2016 Chablis (Chablis, France): As always, immediately more generous than the Sechets, although mid-weight. Combination of orange blossom and salinity early and then a rising oyster shell/salty finish. Acidity is not high, and it should be approachable earlier than the Sechet.

Flying l'Yonne; 8/29/2017-9/1/2017 (Irancy - France): More tamping with a note of pine resin glue that turns into mint with a little air. Very long and sweet in the mouth with a good density Not much complexity here but more than remarkable Chablis wine.
