Intense, full bodied wine. Lots of dark fruits and licorice. Needs a few hours in the decanter. Good with a good steak. Could use another couple of years in the cellar, but good to drink now.

You know those articles that encourage you to patronize your local wine purveyor. Yellow card for the next article I read like that. Paid $36 for this on a bloated recommendation about 5 years ago. I love Tempranillo but not this version. Lacks the elegance of a fine Rioja and does not have the depth of some of the better Toro versions. Ok, but not great (and maybe I am a bit frosted that I paid 2x - and it certainly was not worth what I paid).

I don't normally like Tempranillo based wines, but this one is delicious. The 2015 Numanthia Toro Termes is open for business. I popped it open and I then let I it breathe for many hours. I began sipping and I was immediately impressed. A very smooth, fruity wine, that is very versatile. Is it worth $18 a bottle? You bet!

Prunes and stewed fruit, christmas cake & oak on the nose. A bold punch of ripe red fruit and dark berries on the palate. Still has medium acidity and the tannins are chewy, tooth-gripping and puckering. Supremely lingering finish. This could probably cellar even longer.

Dark berries, prunes, licorice, maybe a little sweet and overextracted and simultaneously a little tannic to my palate. Could improve with another year or two of age I think. Pretty solid QPR, in its style. I recall liking the 2016 vintage of this wine a bit more, though.

Perhaps the best price/value wine I have had in the past year. Absolutely needs an hour + decant, even better two hours. Dark berry fruit that gets more interesting with each minute that goes by. Notes of licorice, vanilla and chocolate after hour two. This wine has intense structure and likely will get better in a couple of years

This has opened up a bit more since before, losing some of its tannic structure and showing more pretty fruit. Still a lot of backbone though. Will continue to improve over time.

This did much better the second day. I would give this a 3 hour decant (or longer). It has a long life and needs time to open to show the fruit and structure.

A nose of dark fruit and spice, dark purple in color. A full bodied red, with blackberry, cassis, espresso, finishes with chocolate and spice, an enjoyable wine. www.winelx.com

Enjoyed the wine but wanted more on the boldness and finish. It could be the pairing or just not letting it open. Still loved the dark fruit. Very good QBR.

Likely the best-ever vintage of this wine, certainly for me at least. Loads of ripe (almost sweet) black and blue fruits lead the way, flanked by notes of tobacco and smoked meat. Hints of spicy oak weave in, and grippy tannins linger on the medium finish. There's great structure here, and while the wine is perfectly integrated now it should still drink well for at least a few more years, possibly longer.

Wow. I've never had a temprinello before. Maybe I did at a restuarant but never from my cellar. Too bad. Pours dark ruby, fresh edges. Holding the wine up to a 60 watt bulb and light does not shine through. As inky as a cab or AU shiraz. Medium legs form slowly which is surprising for a 15% wine. A gorgeous wine. On the nose fresh dark and black fruits, some oak and tobacco. The palate is dark blackberry and cherry with oak and fig, tannin more present on the finish but balanced. Good acidity but not pronounced. Having this tonight with some Manchego cheese and figs. This would stand up to anything such as a burger or steak. Honestly I'm pretty impressed and mad at myself for not branching out to Spanish wines earlier.

Deep ruby color turning crimson orange rust at the rim with a transparent edge. The nose gives off smoky, ripe red and dark fruits with some vanilla on toasted oak. The palate is full-bodied with a fleshy texture with flavors of dark cherry, raspberry compote, seared meat and paine grille. There’s enough acidity to balance the ripeness of the fruit, which makes this very attractive and savory. Finishes long with hints of smoky vanilla. Yummy! Drink now until 2030.

Unbelievable QPR. Big and rich. Some sticky sweet red and black fruit. Licorice, laced with minerals smoked meat juice and a kiss of vanilla. Palate is also rich. Mouth coating and supple. The finish is blackberry and gravel with a touch of bacon fat. Unbelievable QPR

PnP: Day One: 89 points: Dark purple with magenta hues. Intoxicating aromas of brooding plum and blueberry liqueur with notes of roasted coffee, fig, and a touch of minerality. This is a real bruiser of a wine that is screaming for burger or something with enough umami and acidity to tame this thing. After five hours open this is beginning to blossom and moves from black plum to spiced cherry. Let this sucker breathe for a long while and the sweet cherry juice becomes more pronounced and beautiful.
Day Two: 93 points This takes off on the second day. The fruit has become much more perfumed with exotic purple tones like a fine Priorat. The palate is still huge with massive fruit on the attack backed by layers of tannins and strong acidity. Very well done but this is a good five years from becoming anything truly noteworthy. Not sure when I'll open my next one. Hoping it's not for at least two or three years.

Deep, rich colour and good dark fruit and spice on the complex, perfumed nose. Excellent mainly dark cherry and plum fruit on the palate. Good balance and length with spice and integrated soft plum skin tannins. Chocolate notes developed later as it opened. Good with food (Beef Wellington) and on its own. Another bottle a few days later was good but there seemed to be less fruit and more dryness on the finish.

Ordered this because person we were celebrating suggested they liked the more full bodied reds in style and this seemed like it could be interesting in that vein. It's not really my jam. Lower acid than I'd like and a bit on the fruit forward side. That being said, for what it is and at that price point I'd say reasonable.

Unbelievably good, in the upper echelon of ~$20 wines. Highly perfrumed, black, inky and dense with sweet but not overripe fruit; graham cracker-like oak spice, and a bit of that "balsamic" ironlike meaty note. The mouthfeel is full without being hot, and is long lasting without being cloying. Not necessarily complex, but one of the most purely tasty and fully-realized bottles of red I've had in this price range. The only one I can think of I enjoyed more for around $20 was the Rioja Alta Alberdi Reserva, which had a little more cedary nuance.

I've enjoyed a couple of cases of the 2004 over the years, and I know from experience that this wine can take its sweet time before blossoming into something truly memorable. Perhaps the 2015 is just at an awkward phase, but I didn't find this particularly impressive. The wine leads with its hefty (15%) alcohol, both on the nose and on the palate, which is a bit off-putting. Plenty of soft tannins (if you like 80% chocolate, this will be right up your alley). There is good spice and a judicious use of oak, but the fruit is out to lunch.

Mid red in the glass. Easy appeal on the nose, with gobs of red fruit, lolly-esque red florals and also some darker notes of charcuterie. Sweet entry in the mouth, finishing long and even with smooth tannins. Tasty drop, not sure the value (rarely this seems to have been more expensive from Spain than others have paid in the US). Will age fine for at least 5 years.

I enjoyed the heck out of this one. Bone dry, kiss of oak, and all tempranillo. Numanthia seems to do a great job of marrying the old and new world styles of Spanish wine. One of the great consistent values in wine.

Probably the best value wine I’ve had in the last year or more. I’ve had quite a few vintages of this over the years and it’s always solid, but this is particularly good quality and particularly cheap. This used to be $25 or so, and yet I got this for about $15.
Beautiful dark fruit, nothing over-ripe, there is a fantastic racy freshness and acidity. A definite crowd-pleaser. 93+pts.

Dark ruby color. Black cherry plum cardamom, leather. Medium acid and alcohol. Medium length finish.
