Still very lean and young four years since my last note. Definitely not to be drunk yet. Bright citrus and green apple, mild leesy flavors, no brioche just right high acid fruit. It has a bit more complexity than earlier but not yet.

This took some time to open which surprised me. Plenty of color and richly fruited. Chalky grip. Showing a bit of maturity but given the vintage I sort of expected something slighter and more advanced. Especially given this was disgorged in April 2016. Another data point to Chardonnay having a good vintage almost every year in Champagne. That all said this is good but not great. Like a nice Chablis with sparkling and a touch of dosage. Would be a great companion for a nice seafood dinner. It's a clear message for me to keep aging my bottlings of this from better vintages. Five years under cork and it's drinking fine and young. Good stuff.

Börjar uppvisa mognadstoner. Mineraliteten är tydlig - våt ull. Härlig balans mellan syra och sötma. Det finns autolytiska toner som får mig att tro den skulle passa till ostron. Utmärkt just nu.

Still very young. Tight, crisp, mineral and more on the lemon and earth side of flavor profile. Not bready or leesy to me. But it needs time to open and rest in cellar to blossom. I really liked it

Said to be 61% Cramant Grand Cru, 23.5% Chouilly Grand Cru, 14% Cuis 1er Cru, 1.5% Vertus 1er Cru and all chardonnay. The quiet cork pop is deceiving as you're wonder if this will have much drive but I assure you it does. And with over a year since my last btl this has unfolded and showing more citrus and stone fruit range to accompany its lovely minerality and pie crust. Exceedingly fresh and alive with no sense of weightiness. Maybe not as complex as the Krug but I love its overall balance and weight.

Frenchy's Grower Bubbly Event In the OC (Todd Frenchy's Place): Poured blind. This finished for me 2nd place behind the 2012 Marie-Courtin Effloresence of the 11 champagnes we tasted. And further, I am puzzled by Gimmonet, as I have previously owned this wine and decided I was moving on after finishing the final bottle several months ago. I can't store the damn things very easily because of the bottle shape and moreso, I just didn't find the wines to wow me. However, last night's bottle was terrific. Crushed rock aroma, citrusy with good length, showing a pure lime quality and lovely balance. All the parts seemed to fit well together and it had enough richness to not steer me off. Not sure I will go back to buying these as I have found some other houses I like more but I will say last night's bottle showed some good stuff.

We drank this next to the Miniere Absolu (essentially the same vintage, too) and the resulting styles between the two was evident. The Gimmonet drinks leaner, shows less definition and presence, instead being more raw with mineral and some citrus. I wasn't wowed by this SC as I was by the Miniere. What is interesting to me is that I believe the dosage levels are nearly identical (6 for the Miniere and 5 for the SC) so I am wanting to dismiss that the wow factor was the result of that difference.

This is a fairly solid edition of the Special Club. The nose has all the hallmarks of a proper BdB, and there's a good amount of lemon to be found here. The palate is moderately lean, but there's a decent counterbalancing fullness with some ripe apple flavours. Not too bready or mushroomy, this is more on the lean and clean side of things.

Pnp, pale golden, medium bubbles with nose of bread, ripe apple and hint of matured chablis. Finely balanced on palate, almost bitter but not intrusive to become disturbing. Hint of spice and finished a bit dry, would really like to have a little bit of sweetness to it, just my own preference.

2017 Farmer Fizz (West Side Wines (West Hartford, CT)): Tasted at West Side Wines' (West Hartford, CT) "Farmer Fizz" annual grower Champagne event. Great freshness and complexity. Bright overall but some oxidative sherry-like elements are also showing through. Lacks precision and drive to some extent but has good "bones." "Exellent," 91/100.

Terry Theise Grower Champagne Tasting (Chicago, IL): Certainly the best of the three Gimonnet in the lineup. Really bright acidity, perhaps almost too much so. Super acidic and taut. Not too much fruit density, this is mostly driven by the acidity and minerality.

A very enticing nose of lavender and caster sugar. Quite a body it has with a sweetish palate. Ripe, sweet fruit and dates. A touch oxidative developmet with yeasty fullbodied character.

Complex and intense aromas, more on a fresh side. Dusty, somewhat oxy, apple, honey-fruity. High acidity. Sharp. Long lasting finish.
Blanc de Blancs. Fruit comes from Cramant Grand Cru (61%) ⅓ of which from 100yo vines. 23% of grapes from Chouilly GC (lieu-dit Mont Aigu planted in ‘51), 14% Cuis 1er Cru Croix-Blanche and 2% Vertus 1er Cru. Dosage 5g/l. 60mo on lees. MLF, no oak. Production is about 16K blts per annum.
Already approachable and drinks very well

Very fine mousse, great nose of minerals and brioche. Richer than most Gimmonet Champagnes. Notes of apple strudel and grapefruit.

Tasted blind. Crisp, mineral, very active mousse. Really nice finish that’s slightly yeasty and fruity but overall rather dry.

Minerally, blanc de blanc. Still needs time to build fat, another 4 years I'm guessing. Citric(lemony), stony, hint of oyster shell. Needs time.

Charleston Food & Wine Festival; 3/1/2018-3/3/2018 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): Drank next to an '06 Ruinart for the side by side of blanc de blancs. This was a bit more peppery, a bit sweeter, some more depth. Get some caramel corn here. I liked it quite and esp for the price would definitely seek out.
