Definitely showing its age but in a good way. Lovely old champagne with lots of fruit still albeit a little stewed. Orange pink color with fine bubbles. Long finish.

Very fresh on the nose with a lot of primary fresh red fruits. Some tertiary notes starting to appear but still very fresh with aggressive acidity and a balanced mousse. Nicely balanced wine with a long finish

A private tasting and dinner (Champagne Pol Roger, Épernay, France): Tasted blind. Mature pélure d’oignon colour, orangey, pin-prick bubbles; wonderful earthy and mushroomy Pinot Noir complexity, clearly from a riper vintage, candied fruit, wonderful lively freshness, dried fruit on the finish, good length. Drink soon.

Ripe red berries, some hints of citrus and dough on the nose. Palate carries some developed notes, but clearly room for more development. Good concentration, however a bit brisk and with some rough edges that perhaps could ware off with some further cellaring. 91-92p for now.

Quite dark and developed color. Lovely developed aromas. Delicate and tender in the mouth. Lacks some concentration, maybe. Developed positively in the glas over several hours.

Casual dinner at Home: No formal notes. Nice complexity with air and a pretty decent rose. Not nearly as good as the 2000 but a nice bottle nonetheless. Could improve with a few more years. Very good. 89+

Now quite a deep brassy pink. Subdued bubbles. Hefty "vinous" nose. Very pinot. Weighty, impressive though lacking some complexity and elegance. Very much ready to drink.

No formal notes. Nice colour, quite similar on the nose to the ‘96 I opened recently. Similar overall profile too, intense with solid acidity. Strawberry and yeasty notes. Drinks well enough but should be better in a few years. Excellent. 90+

Curiously deep copper colour. Shy nose of reddish fruits. Gentle mousse. Quite full-bodied and a Champagne to stand up well with food, but certainly ready and somehow lacking a little distinction.

lovely pale amberish red colour; sherbet, strawberry with stems and seeds, lots of fizz initially which dissipates quickly; sweetish front palate, nice dry finish, some strawb. Expected more of this. Nice balance but lacking and not memorable.

Pol Roger Rose 1999 - delicious refined strawberry nose - delicate mousse, lovely balance - very good. I don't usually age rose champagne but I have to say that this wine was drinking very well and had a gentle aspect to its nature. 88 points at Dean and Rosie's

Steely grey pink. Yeasty nose, cherry and brioche. Light but persistent mousse. Great flavours and finish. A fitting wine to toast our recently departed friend with.

As reductive and funky and over-priced as the blanc, a touch more fruit on the mid palate. Over priced at $115.

Pale pink color; persistent fine bubbles. Very faint nose. Fruit was muted. No obvious negatives, just lacking any strong positive attributes.
