having with Thanksgiving dinner first sip was good waiting for the food to come out decanted through a screen very gently for over 2 hours, after having very carefully removed the cork hoping these changes to previous bottles will make a big difference

first bottle from my first skinner auction, decanted but drank a half glass right after aerating, not sure at the moment, seems quite mellow with surprisingly little sediment even though cork broke in 1/2 when removed. going to keep trying a few sips throughout the night as it decants longer to see if it changes.

Another bottle from my auction purchase a dozen years ago or so. Very good color (dark purple)/mature nose (black cherry, some oak, some leather)/rich mouthfeel, almost portlike/good finish with lingering texture. This is so rich that it might become tiresome after two glasses. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: I've stopped giving scores on a "100-point scale" as I've become less convinced that they can be meaningful to others. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. I consider this notable+ when considering quality, age, and price.

Purchased at auction 8-9 years ago before Prisoner was hot; maybe 15-18/b. Rich, dark color; muted nose; subtle briary, cherry body with very good mouthfeel; modest finish. Delicious but looks bigger than it tastes. No sign of decline but fruit is surprisingly muted, and I doubt that it will improve. Good to have some but would not buy more, even at the nice price. Take care with food pairing: this could get lost with big food flavors.

Wow! Intense with lots of alcohol. But backed with rich fruit and spice. After a little time it settles down a bit but it needs food, preferably equally spicy. Served with Smoque brisket--nice.

Tasted as part of a 5 year vertical (2001-2005). The nose had sweet dark fruits and just a little spice. The palate was had jammy fruit, quite a bit of spice, and some leather and chocolate flavors. This vintage had more acidity and pep than the 2001 did.

Deep purple color; long legs; clear; nose is jammy with spice; cherry fruit forward with hints of dark chocolate followed by leather; though a bit hot a nice long finsh.

The syrah and petie syrah really come through in the poweful fruit foward blend. Blackberry and blueberry jam appear almost candied and is counter balanced with a soft cedar and musky spice. The finish is suprisingly delicate, especially when compared to how big this wine is on the palate, with dried current and spiced sun dried raisins.

Nice blend. A touch hot, but tannins are nicely integrated and it has sweet fruit and spice flavors.

Color is dark garnet. Nose is brambly, jammy, blackberry. On the palate, very juicy, grapey with noticable spice. Finishes with a bit of acidity.

Jammy in a good way with spices and a healthy dose of oak. On the hot side through the finish but enjoyable.
[$25; Probably needs short-term bottle time to integrate; Served with filet mignon]
