Medium gold. Medium+ aromas of lemon, lime, grapefruit, melon, dried fruits, clove, vanilla, brioche, pastry, dough, cream cheese, hazelnut, almonds. Med+ acidity. Medium+ finish. Very good wine but perhaps needs a longer finish to be outstanding. Has a good few years ahead.

Two Months in Roma; 9/6/2022-10/28/2022 (Rome, Italy): Final night of our friend’s visit to Rome so we splurged a bit, from the wine list at Al Moro, Rome. A rich mouth coating Chardonnay, but not at all buttery. This is good and enjoyable, but I think there is just as much drinking pleasure at far lower price levels among Italian white wines.

Elegant, complex, deep. Less mineral than white Burgundies, the floral, nut, lychie, maracuja and peach notes are nicely rounded up by oak aromas and balanced by grapefuit freshness in the finish. Although not reaching the aromaic complexity and balance of the extraordinary 2007, a good pairing with our grilled salmon. Drink now and over the next 2 years.

This wine like many other vintages gets a few extra style points than it deserves, from the reviewers, but still nonetheless a respectable and delicious Burgundian style chard that drinks in the low 90’s.

Definitely the winemakign has evolved here away from the heavy oak of the past and this is a really good result as the wine ( The Burgundy Grand Cru of Italy as they like to say) is now showing a lot more character while young and fresh and is not just the wall of fat oak of the past vintages we detested. Very charming and frankly delicious. Maybe is touch of the local grechetto that adds a bit more dimension but frankly we think is the reduction of new oak and the (finally) move away from making a modern American chardonnay. 92 and with lots of potential

Opulent wine with flowers, citrus and spices, strong backbone by bitters. A really good wine, worth its price which also covers the name Antinori. and in my opinion one of the best price/quality wines from Antinori. This is in contrast to my note in 2019. A great pleasure to drink!

Less mineral than white Burgundies (and without flintstone) the floral, nut and peach notes are nicely rounded up by oak aromas. Although not reaching the aromaic complexity and balance of the extraordinary 2007, a good pairing with our grilled squids. Drink now and over the next 3 years.

Initially taste of butter, oak, marzipan. Quickly evolves in a more mineral, very salty wine loosing a bit of its classic chardonnay appeal to bring a more unique Italian taste .
This is my first Cervaro and I must say that it's quite well done with good acidity to match the ripe flavors of tangy lemon/lime fruits. Medium-bodied with a certain savory quality and the finish is nicely complex with notes of brown spices and mint. Impressive for an Italian Chardonnay.

Notes of peach and honey with some butter and it certainly has some depth but mid palate it really drives a lean and sharper profile. Finish has a slightly salty / bitter apple pip element. This dries and lifts the experience. Interesting and good.

Good color. Honey cream nose. Palate has good balance of acidity and white fruits. Very rich on the palate, and a very nice Chardonnay. I enjoyed this. (Retailers raving about a high rating(forget whose). It’s definitely at par with the better $30/40 California chards but not at that next level.)

Very serious Chardonnay! This one is very rounded and opulent in the front. Tons of chalky and herbal yellow fruits abound on the front of this wine. Then blindfolded, I might have guessed Aubert. Gains a browned butter in the middle. Really leans out towards the finish, showing a ton of limestone and acidity. Dangerously easy to drink, this one paired well with sushi, but had plenty of structure and complexity to do very well on its own. I think I have now had three vintages of this wine, and enjoyed them both. Antinori is solid, and consistently consistent.

Brought with us to the Lowy's to share over dinner. Very fruity and expressive on the nose, with hints of honeysuckle and spice. Full-bodied, yet elegant in weight and texture. Surprisingly sweet, offering a generous amount of ripe peach, apple and citrus fruit. Nicely balanced, with a moderate acidity and a touch of toasted oak. Finishes very long, with lingering hints of sweet fruit, mineral and honeysuckle. Polished, delicious and harmonious - but not by any means a 99 point wine (as per Suckling). Paired beautifully with Louise Lowy's cioppino. 50+5+12+17+8=92

Tasting at Antinori winery in one of their cellar tasting rooms. What a treat. Their new, beautifully modern (and sprawling) headquarters in Chianti should be on your bucket list. We had the following wines in order:
2017 Cervaro della Sala - A crisp and tasty white, but otherwise undefined. A fine starter but might as well have their Bramito for 1/3 of the price. Rating: 90
2015 Badia a Passignano - Tasted like the chianti that it is. Nothing memorable but tasty nonetheless. 89
2014 Pian delle Vigne Brunello - I’ve had mixed success with this Brunello over the years. It strikes me as highly variable among vintages. This vintage is fine. Nice balance but didn’t stand apart from the Badia di Passignano. 89
2016 Tignanello - Still young and undeveloped; but absolutely delicious. It totally outclassed the 2015 Solaia. This has always been one of my favorite Antinori wines because of its consistency and complexity. Fruit, earth and tobacco. Rating: 92 with potential 94+.
2015 Solaia - I’ve always found Solaia a bit overrated. It’s chianti location is supposed to make it less jammy and more complex than its Bolgheri counterparts; but I’ve never found a taste profile that says this wine should stand alone. It’s a great Cabernet with some Sangiovese notes. 2019 was also too early to drink this wine. It was jammy and well-balanced but will need some time to develop into something commensurate with its price. Probably a 90 with a 92+ potential.
2013 Muffato della Sala - This was delicious. We drank this with our lunch, and it was a very hot day. Fans, misters and Muffato allowed us to sit outside and enjoy the heat. Rating: 93
