Very dark, not to much on the nose despite some hours in decanter, well integrated good mouthfull of dark berry fruits quite long, a very good bottle from a reliable top producer but not much to it, quite simple.

90-91+ Punkte? In einem guten Trinkfenster im Moment. Jugendlich, aber voll da. Trinken: 2019 bis 2030. Höhepunkt: 2021 bis 2027? Für 28,00 von A. Kutsch. via ebay erstanden. Preis: ok. PLV: 6/10.

Dense, blackish red. Edge browning. Fairly big bq w black fruit, stone dust, liqorice, black cherries. Medium+ body w fresh acidity, fine tannins, dark fruits, chocolate. Nice aftertaste, although not very long. Good balance. Not much complexity. Mature, but will last longer.

My favorite of the Argentina vs. Chile tasting. Immense power, tannin and concentration of black fruit. Obviously young but with the right food this is a winning partner already. Surprisingly not tiring to drink despite its size. I was lead to believe Argentinian Malbec does not last well but maybe that’s not true.

Has matured slowly and gracefully. Dry, vertical, could be a dead ringer for a sound left bank Bordeaux-wine of some class; still young with plnety of blackberries, cassis, and this will keep, certainly, but no harm in drinking it now. #Kandestederne

I decided to do a blind side by side of 2 Argentinean Malbecs I enjoy. Both I've had previously, and both have a similar price range. One is a 2018 and this one a 2015. Slightly darker purple color, a slightly lighter color rim. Nose much more pronounced. Drier and less acidity. A pronounced sweet oak on the nose and palate. Palate also with dark fruit, plum, earthy notes. Overall both very good. Slight preference for this.

This bottle wasn't as good as the first one. Dark fruits and plum, a little cinnamon spice. Good wine but not interesting to drink on this night. Maybe it was me!

Very dark. On opening it was lush and beautiful, and nicely focused . After 2 hours, wood dominated and remained for 2 days. Then it improved again. Big tannins. Decant or cellar for several years .

Sound fruit and vertical structure. Has chalky character, plenty of blackberries, still a young wine, but certainly in it's drinking-window. Bring on a steak.

Full-bodied. Deep Ruby, dark fruit , blackberry, chocolate and vanilla. It is inky on the mouth lip with always a reminder from friends. Smooth , dry with medium acidity. Smell violets. Love this with my lamb chops.

Our first impression of this opaque, medium purple's aromatics was an initial buttery oakiness. Max also noted tobacco. We hadn't decanted it, but after 30 minutes in a glass, it opened up and some fruitiness emerged. Jessie notes some cocoa, and then some licorice for sure on the rear palate that lingers on the finish.
In our tasting notes, we underlined *mellow*, though it got less so as it opened up. Max actually liked it a bit more with the mellowness; Jessie liked it all through its evolution. As it opened, we both spotted blueberry. Dry, medium-plus body, and quite well balanced.
Jessie was a big fan, giving it a 91, and Max gave it a healthy nod with an 88.

I drank this 2015 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Catena Alta Historic Rows bottle on Valentine’s Day after dinner while watching a good movie. I knew right away pouring the first glass and that this was going to be a big and full bodied wine. It is very deep dark ruby red in the glass with a dusty (in a positive way), fruity, and violet aroma. First taste is intense and brings bitter dark chocolate and was tight. This wine needed some time to open, and probably should have decanted it. After 30 minutes or so, the black fruit came through and to me a good description is a “smooth and thick texture.” No question that this is pure 100% Malbec grape. On the positive side this wine was excellent to drink slowly and paired with some chocolate and strawberries while watching a good movie. On the negative side, it wasn’t a complex wine with subtle elements. If you like Malbec, put this wine on your must try list.

Full body, deep purple, lush dark fruit, blueberry, little cherry, touch of oak with tobacco. Well balanced, smooth tannins. Subdued, melancholy night at blues jazz club, in a good way. Wonderful Malbec.

Excellent.

Nicolate Catena Tasting (Sunfish Cellars): Drank a small pour at a tasting. Red fruited, lush but not cloying. Still, this needs some acid. It is relatively smooth and a typical to good Malbec.

Charleston Food & Wine Festival; 3/7/2019-3/10/2019 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): This was more well balanced than the first set of wines that we tried. There's some good fruits (mostly red). Blend of all of the vineyards. This was perhaps not a wine that speaks to one, but it was a wine that I can see myself ordering off a by the glass list potentially. Or at a work dinner where I need something that will be appealing to a broader group at a reasonable price. Again I go back to the balance which was a major step up at this point.

Very good & somewhat different Malbec (seams to be a blend of different vineyards). Decanted for 2 hours to get it to perfection.

One note, lots of alcohol even though only 13.5%
Thick, viscous, purple in the glass. No evolution as it sits in the glass. Not something I want again.
Tastes extracted like a Napa take on Malbec. Lots of cherry, menthol, hint of tobacco.
