Decanted immediately after opening. Significant amount of precipitate present in the bottle. Obvious hint of VA immediately after opening. After 30 min in decanter the VA is only noticeable in aftertaste. I seem to be very sensitive to VA and it is hard for me to taste through it. After 2 hours in decanter: Ruby colour with hints of red brick. VA is gone. It is a nice wine with some acidity left which keeps it fresh. Tannins still verly much present, but pleasant. It is not a remarkable wine. I do not taste much of smokiness, cigar box etc. It seems to be still fruit driven. Pretty long finish. After 6 hours in decanter: Very smooth and easy. Hint of prune. Tannins are still there, but are nicely integrated.

Deutlicher Cassis-Geschmack, was ich mag.

Wow! Talk about knock your socks off. Purchased on release and stored in a commercial unit until yesterday. Everything about this wine is fantastic. Mid neck fill, perfect cork, no browning at the edges, deep dark purple color, almost black. Strong nose of dark fruit with overflowing layers of secondary and tertiary notes. Long finish. This is the reason we lay wines down. Wife wanted to say 97 points, but I tried to rein it in just a bit. This was a great bottle. I hope the other 5 are the same.

Relatively green on the nose. Super smooth on the palate. Wet forest floor dominates, but there is a gentle spice to hold it together.
On the palate it is more of the same, with gentle fruit and a green quality that is refreshing. Definitely in the drinking window and probably best to consume now.

At 18 years of age, this wine is drinking at its peak now. Popped and aired for 3 hours before drinking, the wine pours a dark ruby color with a garnet core and long legs. On the nose, the bouquet is concentrated and quite perfumed as the tertiary notes are starting to become more pronounced. The bouquet consists primarily of blackberries, cherries, cigars, sous bois, and spice. There is a even a touch of leather in the background too. On the palate, the wine yields impressive structure as the silky, well-integrated tannins lend weight and substance. Acidity is kept in check and the alcohol does not bite. Just like the nose, there is still plenty of fruit left but the wine is starting to reveal its tertiary characteristics. The finish is just as complex and the wine ends in an earthy, smoky tone. This is a well put-together effort, though for me, the finish is a tad short. This is at its peak right now and may hold for a couple more years. However, I do not see it improving anymore with time. So drink up.

Opened this tonight at Dragon Phoenix Restaurant for Mother's Day Dinner.
Dark brick red in colour with an inviting aroma of oak, vanilla, ripe plums and cocca on the nose.
On the palate this wine is majestic and charming. Like an aged lady, the body is elegant, elaborate, adorable and sophisticated. Wine is smooth on the palate and very well integrated. Delivers heightened sensations in the mouth and to the soul. Probably still at its prime and pretty impressive!
No wonder St Julien is one of my favourite appellations!

Cork in very good condition. Clear, bright dark ruby colored. Tart red currants and cherries on the nose, still plenty of vibrant fruit, loving the wet soil and forest floor aromas as well. With time I get complex notes of graphite, anise, mushroom and black pepper. Still has impressive tannic structure on the palate along with moderate-low acid. Flavors of black and red cherries and currants, the fruit is subtle but still strong enough to stand up to the emerging elements of wet leaves, fallen trees and mushroom. I also some complex black pepper, graphite and loamy soil flavors. Earthy and complex, but gets elegant with air. Even better on day two. If in good condition, this is still holding up, but I’m worried the fruit may wane too much if kept for more than, I don’t know, three to five more years maybe.

Tight and angular on the palate. Dark fruit and leather. Tannin needs to resolve, but not sure this has the fruit to absorb it. Good, but not exciting.

Still holding on. Classic nose dominated by cedar with some light green pepper and cassis. Tannins completely integrated. Better after 1 hour decant. Mellow taste of black fruits, earth, old leather, and a nice mouthfeel. Long finish with some dryness and a hint of coffee/mocha. Drink up, but this should last for a couple more years.

The cork was utterly decimated and I worried that this bottle would be flawed. Upon first taste it didn't seem flawed, but it was pretty one dimensional so likely past its prime. It had a nice lingering soft finish, though, which showed promise. Over the next two hours it opened up beautifully with supple notes of yellow and red fruit, cinnamon, chicory, and that same round finish. Delicious! Drink now.

Spicy green pepper, green pepper, green pepper! Wow! What a nose!! Silky smooth, some tannic astringency, with less concentrated spicy green pepper, onion, forest, cedar, leather, and dustiness. Really pleasant, and powerful wine!

Poured a glass and left the rest in the bottle to air for about an hour. Leather, tobacco, earthy barnyard still very prominent on the nose. some fuit left, blackberry? But not much. Definitely starting to fade and loose the fruit, but still very complex. Heavy body, and a bit opaque. Still drinking good.

Just barely bricking - thin disc with an opaque robe. Great nose of cedar, leather, farmyard. Excellent fruit on the nose. Full, tannic, gritty tannin - lots of good fruit on the palate but very farmyard - wood, hay, smells like the barn in the mouth. Spicey, peppery. A little hot? Barnyard on the finish, nice chocolate. This would go well with cheese and a crisp baguette. Nice expression of my favorite commune and not dissimilar in spirit from Talbot.
With air, a little cheese on the palate - some of the funk blows off the nose.

Better than prior tastings. Nose of dark red fruits, cedar, some leather. Palate of blackberry, dark red fruits, cedar, spice, good balance, long spicy finish, good suave mouthfeel. Overall, sweet fruit still tastes young, even if more mature than my prior tastings. Drinking well now, but likely has years of evolution ahead.

Was inspired by Billionaires Vinegar to run out and by a bottle of whatever Bordeaux I could find to taste while reading. This was the best I could do. Pop and poured. Deep red color, cigar box, tobacco, and smoke on the nose. Blackberries on the palate. Not very impressive finish. Finished half the half bottle and came back four hours later. Softer, lost a bit of the fruit but still enjoyable. Would have gone better with food but it was a nice unexpected addition to the day.

Good nose of saddle leather, plum juice. Palate showed mid-weight plum, and as it opened, almost stewed plums, and nice peppery mid-palate. Finish was pleasant and long. By far, the nose was the most attractive aspect of the wine.

A nice soft round Medoc, showing better as the tannins have integrated (never a really tannic wine, but I thought the tannins seemed to have a bit of a hard/unripe sense earlier). Black and red currant with a bit of cigarbox, nothing to get excited about, but a decent showing for '98 Left Bank.

Suprisingly good and in a good spot to drink right now (Parker gives it until 2008). Aroma is perhaps the most impressive part, full of smoky, meaty, dark fruit with a touch of tabacco. Mid-palate is fairly solid but the finish is disappointing. Still, for a '98 Gloria I was really happy. Smells like Bordeaux and not a toasty oak California look alike.

The color of this wine is deep cherry. On the nose I get tobacco and just a touch of wood. On the palate,Ii get the typical Bordeaux earth /leather flavors with long tannins. A nice wine that still has some aging potential.

The 1998 Gloria shows signs of evolution with red-brownish colors in the rime of the glass. The first noce is quite appealing with aromas of tobacco, wax and a bit of walnut, the second nose showe some underwood, tobacco and a little bit of very ripe red fruit. On the mouth it is appealing with earthy and minreal notes. It is long and classic Bordeaux style with a little bit of tannin left. Quite appealing.

Big and powerful. Plenty of spice and bite, yet very big and wide. (old note, date estimated)
