  • Tasted at the wine house in Bernkastel. Golden yellow color in the glass. Had the normal petrol nose along with honeysuckle and white peach. Tastes followed suit with honey, candied lemon drops, and a slight hint of peppermint. Unctuous mouthfeel with bright acidity and a medium long finish. Very young. Will last a good 15-20 years in the bottle.

  • Lower pitched ripe stone fruit and an herbal note on the nose. Rich, pure orange and yellow apple, sweeter than the Bernkasteler Badstube Spätlese, less mineral, lower acidity. This is rather simple right now.

  • You can def smell a touch of the struck match here. Still needs years to open, but the palate is all generous Prum.

  • Decided to pop one tonight instead of letting it age. Fortunately I did, because the cork was not in good shape, and the fill line was at least half way through. Which reminded me of when I opened a 2014 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett JJP earlier this year and the fill went through to the top of the cork (fortunately the wine was not damaged). Oh well, pseudo infanticide! However what a lovely wine, petroleum wax, nuance lemon and apples, a very slight almost unnoticed micro effervescence (or at least the feel of it), a good amount of sweetness countered by acidity and tartness that kept it from overwhelming, and with the proper food pairing, this was more pleasant and seemingly less sweet. Enjoyed this with a Peking Duck dinner with crispy sweet shrimp, sweet and sour fish, and naturally held up fine to the fermented smokey bean sauce (actually it was more sweet than smokey, it was not hoisin sauce). While this can age effortlessly with a good cork, no harm in drinking it now, especially if you have richer food/sauces and this has acidity in spades. So now I guess I have to open my other 2018 JJPs...and I fear for the 2015 JJP WS Auslese....

  • A star for Joh. Jos.! Pleasing and generous nose of peaches and tropical fruits with an abundant floral perfume; only a hint of petrol. Some increased complexity on the nose after about 30 minutes: other florals some minerality. Earthy notes after about an hour. On the palate: mild honey sweetness with some effervescence leads to peaches, red apples and subdued mango notes. The slightest whisper of tartness on the back end. Medium force finish that extends for miles with the honey and apple notes. I went on a bizarre adventure to track down this specific bottle as it's grown a mile north of my last riesling a couple days ago. Eventually paired with bratwurst, lemon potatoes and cucumber salad along with some Bavarian emmentaler and salami. *Graacher Himmelreich classified as "Grosse Lage" by the VDP; average age of vines over 100 yrs! *Johann Josef Prum founded the estate in 1911 after splitting the family's holdings with his brother; family history in the area dated to 1156!

  • double decanted several hours before serving

pale yellow color, bright nose of peach and pear, zesty white mineral notes, on the palate blazing fruit, peach, apple, pear, zesty and wild, copious petrol notes, rose petals, continued to put on weight through the course of the evening, lively and very deep, great future ahead.

  • Huge nose of mineral, pierre à fusil, fleurs blanches... Tellementb mineral qu'on ne goute presque plus la sucrosité (soil of grayish blus slate)

  • Much more reduced than the WS from the same vintage alongside it was tasted. This needed significant air and time to open up
Initial aromas of smoke, wet slate, blue cheese, sponti
After significant air, aromas of white melon, white fruits, and herbaceousness (compared to the WS) emerged. Quite minieral-y on the mid palate
    Excellent length
As long as you give it time to blow off the reduction, this is showing extremely well young, but obviously has decades of life ahead of it

  • JJ Prum - 2018 range tasting: Plum, lemon, graphite, smoke and grapefriut. Wow, the palate really shows off everything I love about young Mosel Riesling. It's ripe, slightly sweet but above all is fantastically energetic - showing off amazing slate and a mineral profile that really gives this an extra dimension. Excellent balance and flow - this is singing already so early on - I might be made a believer in Spatlese after all.

  • Krotida Wine Gang Tasting, Weingut JJ Prum Horizontal tasting 2018 (Oinoscent): 8.5%
The wine shows more reduction/rubber notes than the Kabinett to the point that I can’t find any fruit underneath (tried the wine again hour later that day and it had opened up nicely).
In the palate, the wine shows freshness but a heavier feeling and character than the Kabinett. The wine is a bit earthy, with medium to high acidity, candied stone and citrus fruit, medium body and finish.
    90 for now
