Community Tasting Notes (19) Avg Score: 93.9 points

  • A dark colour; quite rich and perfumed on the palate, with lush, ripe fruit and notes of blueberry, bilberry and violets. Elegant, full and long, and drinking beautifully now. Very fine.

Post script: the above note was day 1, when the first half of the bottle was drunk. I gave it 95. The rest was drunk a few days later, having been stored in a clean half bottle with the cork in. On that occasion, it was slightly more austere, with tannin more in evidence. Still a very good wine, but no better than 93. Hence the overall score of 94.

  • My expectations were high thinking back to a hedonistic 05 Rousseau Charmes I had last year and a few other 05’s that were just so vibrant, exuberant and utterly delicious
This bottle felt like hard work. On the nose Iron, Earthy and Spicy. On the palate quite intense with red fruit, sour cherry a tannic edge and quite masculine. Some iodine. It softened a bit with time in the glass (I don’t think the poor quality of these helped either) Hopefully the wine will come together in about 5 years.

  • Engaging nose. Tight on the palate at first, a bit too lean and thought this could be a 1er Cru ringer. Issue with this and other wines served in the flight was they were all a bit cold and also they were not given any air and the time we got to spent with each wine was too short as the next flight was waiting. Towards the very end I felt the clean high pitched red fruit Rousseau style came through. 92 on this suboptimal condition today but has upside with better preparation and time.

  • Wonderful wine already with red fruit, dried herbs and cherries. Still tightly wound and going to be amazing in a few years. Putting the other bottles away for several more years.

  • Opened 5 hours before drinking and still it was so muted and tight. Had to decanter it for an hour before the nose started to show more. Muted wild flowers and spices. On the palate lots of dark fruits and just concentrated but unyielding still. As expected for a 05. Revisit in 3 to 5 years. 92-94 potential

  • A deep colour; very full and rich, with a range of dark fruits: blueberry, dark cherry, blackberry. A profound and striking wine, with a very long finish. Ready now but should keep.

  • Wine Monuments Man Chapter 4 (Berens am Kai 1 star Restaurant): Not blind
A hint of Strawberry, raspberry but in the background, violet, tar are accompaniing. Silky tannins with vivid acidity. Very balanced. More powerful than elegant but with a precise finish. 96

  • Luftet en halv time.

  • After 2 hr ox, my date, after seeing me pouting, said "It tastes like a Rioja." Brutal. Leather and Spice. Bitter/Mono.
After 14 hour ox: Leather, salt, herbs de provence, black raspberry liquor, kirsch.
    Next bottle 2019/2020.
Try pairing with a salty pesto olive dish and mull a few raspberries. Advise 16 hour oxidation/10 hour decant.

  • ripe cherries on the nose. extremely intense right away in the mouth with intense spices. viscous. very strong (for my taste) tannins that are not yet integrated, wine is still mostly primary. needs 10+ years.

  • Way too young. Very primary, almost monolithic. Don't touch this wine for at least another 7 years.

  • Almost painfully intense both in the aromatics and flavours. Can't remember what my guess was, but it sure was not Clos de la Roch from Rousseau. Not the most typical Morey Grand Cru perhaps, it's far too elegant and transparent. High concentration and some green stemmy nots. Fine wine.

  • Red cherries and other lovely red fruit. Almost velvet like in texture. Quite intense. Very 05 but it is elegant in Rousseau style. A great Clos de la Roche.

  • great complexity, this is brilliant wine that is approachable but still quite young. A beauty with a super future.

  • Very tight with brambly black cherries . Unrelenting in its stingyness, this was quite extracted with hard tannins and rash acidity . Nothing much to say at the moment except maybe aging for a decade might be better.

  • New Year's Eve 2009 Drinks (The Ching's and then Elaine's): Terrible infanticide - but who am I to complain when John so generously poured some of this. Super, super tight nose. Nothing much at first accept some indistinct fruit and smoke - made me think of Tempranillo. WIth time, it opened up to show little bits of iron mineral, sweet cherries, spice, smokey herbs, earth and chalk with just that bit of varnish. Red fruit became a little more obvious with time, but it remained pretty much a study in inscrutable depth for most of the evening. On the palate, clean 2005 acid gave the wine a tremendous freshness and great balance to its juicy dark cherry and cranberry character. Quite a bit of extract here, but pretty good concentration and purity of expression. Good focus too, giving the wine a nice delineation. Towards the finish, orangey citrus notes, a good dose of spice, a touch of meat, more smoke and some very Rosseau toasty cocoa notes. Pretty impressive length here, and quite a bit of hiddern complexity. 92-93 for now. Would not broached this if I had a bottle until at least a 8-10 years down the road.

  • clearly too young to drink, but nevertheless great. very fragrante gobs of sweet cherry and spice, in the mouth very aromatic with a nice dry after taste.

  • Tasted blind. Medium colour. Very fine and complex nose with sour cherries, cocoa, mushrooms, crust, vegetal notes - pleasure on itself. Very tasty. Medium+ body, jucy, silky tannins, long and very elegant. My favourite wine of the tasting.
