Community Tasting Notes (19) Avg Score: 93.9 points

  • A dark colour; quite rich and perfumed on the palate, with lush, ripe fruit and notes of blueberry, bilberry and violets. Elegant, full and long, and drinking beautifully now. Very fine.

Post script: the above note was day 1, when the first half of the bottle was drunk. I gave it 95. The rest was drunk a few days later, having been stored in a clean half bottle with the cork in. On that occasion, it was slightly more austere, with tannin more in evidence. Still a very good wine, but no better than 93. Hence the overall score of 94.

  • My expectations were high thinking back to a hedonistic 05 Rousseau Charmes I had last year and a few other 05’s that were just so vibrant, exuberant and utterly delicious
This bottle felt like hard work. On the nose Iron, Earthy and Spicy. On the palate quite intense with red fruit, sour cherry a tannic edge and quite masculine. Some iodine. It softened a bit with time in the glass (I don’t think the poor quality of these helped either) Hopefully the wine will come together in about 5 years.

  • Engaging nose. Tight on the palate at first, a bit too lean and thought this could be a 1er Cru ringer. Issue with this and other wines served in the flight was they were all a bit cold and also they were not given any air and the time we got to spent with each wine was too short as the next flight was waiting. Towards the very end I felt the clean high pitched red fruit Rousseau style came through. 92 on this suboptimal condition today but has upside with better preparation and time.

  • Wonderful wine already with red fruit, dried herbs and cherries. Still tightly wound and going to be amazing in a few years. Putting the other bottles away for several more years.

  • Opened 5 hours before drinking and still it was so muted and tight. Had to decanter it for an hour before the nose started to show more. Muted wild flowers and spices. On the palate lots of dark fruits and just concentrated but unyielding still. As expected for a 05. Revisit in 3 to 5 years. 92-94 potential
