  • Nice enjoyable high quality red. No brown or orange edges yet. Nevertheless I will make sure to drink my two remaijing ones within the next 2 years. Probably at its peak eight now. Would buy again for 18€.

  • Bought from Montalcino in 2020, shipped during summer and imperfectly stored, I was expecting the worst. But this was pure pleasure in the glass - reminiscent of the rich, glossy raspberry and cherry fruit of CdN's Tenuta Nuova Brunello with some meaty notes, dusty terracotta, quite prominent French oak - but the fruit has more than enough concentration to stand up to it. On the palate it's really quite structured - lots of acidity and a tannic structure that demands food. I really wish I had more bottles of this because it has loads in tank. Delicious

  • €65 at Beef club, with tomahawk. Tasted on opening and it was quite tight and closed, but it opened up quickly after decanting. Good body, nice balance. Mature red fruits rather than bright and sweet. Lower acidity than we expected - perhaps the hot vintage? - leaving us missing the snap on the palate. Overall good but not what we had hoped.

  • Same note as before but showing a lot of oak right now even on the second day. Still crowd pleasing and nice food wine.

  • Better than expected. Lean but still texturally creamy with a decent amount of wood. Great compliment to food and crowd pleasing without being cloying.

  • 2017 in Brunello was very tough, with the heat spikes across the region do not expect to find wines of high quality, I personally prefer drinking wines from an off-vintage since it allows you to see the full potential of the vigneron, remember everyone can make good wine in a good vintage, btu a bad vintage is more difficult. Casanova never fails to deliver and since they installed the optical sorter tough vintages are not as tough since they are able to select which grapes are selected for each wine.

As for their Rosso, it is a solid effort, and one which does not show the true characteristics of the vintage, with aromas of dark plum, tart cherry and wild herbs, the palate was certainly more concentrated compared to the 2015,2016, with a tighter core of fruit, roasted pepper, and herbaceous notes, the tannins coated the palate and were grippy yet well defined, the finish was medium in length yet with a certain lingering savoriness that I appreciated.

As a side note, I tasted this right after the Muga 2016, which is from a significantly better year, yet the Casanova came in with the same score for a more challenging vintage. I will not be buying cases of 2017s yet it confirms my thoughts that Casanova produces some of the best Sangiovese in Tuscany and some of the best wines in Italy.
