A bit delayed on this note and so committing from memory and the scratch pad. Tasted '08 and '95 side by side and first Vogue run in. '95 obviously in a very different state of development to the '08, but provides some hope for younger vintages. The nose on the '95 was quite big and attractive with a good mix of primary and secondary characteristics, but falls off rather quickly. The palate didn't really have staying power I would expect from a top parcel. I would suspect this is most enjoyable as small bottle pours vs. large glasses that sit and aerate for a while. Similar to the '08, not the best QPR

Opened with a nose of barnyard and sweatsox, blew off in about 15 minutes, nose of mushroom, sweet and sour fruit, black cherry, black berry, and hints of briar, 40 minutes into the tasting, the nose was the same but more floral, on the palate, rich, brooding, big body, very tasty, continued to improve throughout the luncheon, long finish, photo uploaded, compared to the 1997 Bouchard Bonnes Mares, it was masculine, darker, deeper but not as rich nor as elegant. If well cellared-this cork saturated only 5%, then easily last another 8 years, at peak, enjoy now.

Took it' sweet time to open, but when it did ... ; tell tale Bonnes Mares, fruit somewhat dark, has real matter, plenty of Pinot feel, good spice - and great potential. Still young. #Peytz #Jean-LucPepin

Dark ruby. A backward nose offers cranberry and black tea aromas. Austere on the palate, with firm, inelegant tannins and a finish bordering on bitter. This is an odd wine. While it may be in a dumb phase, I'll note Allen Meadows called this evolution back in 1998. (Bottle 01168)

Still deep crimson in the glass with a dark core. Nose begins medium intense but grows throughout the night. Decanting advisable. Soft cranberry expands into more robust red and even black cherry, light top soil, finely ground coffee, tan leathers, and cigar tobacco wrapper. Palate is soft and silky at first but follows up with a solid dose of tart cranberry and cherry fruit. Evolves well over two hours and gives a very light soily minerality in addition to mature but powerful fruit. Finesse and elegance up front with big substantive support. A real pleasure to drink right now even though this wine will be great for many more years. Cliché but accurate: iron fist in velvet glove. Bottle and cork in absolutely prestine condition.

Birthday celebration for W and B at Xin Yue. Very consistent with the previous bottle I had earlier in the year. Very primary in appearance, almost inky dark red. I seriously am amazed at how a Burgundy can look this youthful at age 20. There was a lovely deep and intense floral bouquet, with violets, wild blueberries and pomegranate. Palate was a little more "Bonnes Mares like" with lots of dark red and blue fruit, meat, truffle and a good robustness and earthiness. Very impressive, but obviously still needs a good 15-20 years. This will be a 50 year wine.

We both enjoyed this tonight. Nose showed some development with mushrooms and earth and some medicinal notes that had potential to detract from the quality. Palate was integrated, elegant, full bodied with some tartness being the only negative. Drank over 4 hours and noticed its showing going up and down over that time.

BM-BM themed dinner (Imperial Treasure SPD, Paragon): Floral nose of red-berries, violets. On the palate, this perhaps had the most structure... but at the same time, it wasn't that difficult to enjoy drinking it. Red-fruited, meaty. There was also this sense of robustness. At the same time, there was also a very slight tinge of mushroom, earth, as if it was entering its secondary stage of development. Will be interesting to see how this develops furthur in-bottle.

BM (Batard Montrachet) BM (Bonnes Mares) dinner at Imperial Treasure. I got this totally mixed up with the 07, it was that young. I must have missed the slightest hint of secondary characteristics the rest of the experts picked up at the table. This was medium to dark red, with a lovely perfume of crushed blueberries, violets and fresh red roses. Lots of acid and tartness (not obtrusive), with an underlying elegance. Palate was deep and intense, again the red and blue fruit was prominent, with great balance. A touch more complex than either th 89 or 07, and certainly a longer finish. Another privilege drinking a mini flight of Vogue Bonnes Mares. This will last another 20 years.

Preferred this greatly to the '99 served alongside it, though others disagreed. Sappy red fruits, crystallized structure on the nose, very pretty. Intense fruit backed by structure and grip with a long finish. Slight green note and biting quality detract a bit, but overall an excellent wine. Can go longer, but drinking well now.

Excellent, but nowhere close to mature. Very pure, with both red strawberry and darker fruit, meaty, and masculine, nothing resembling the mature burgudny mushroom/forest notes. Red fruit + "masculine" is kind of an unusual combination, but this has it IMO. Very structured, very concentrated, elegant and medium weight, backward with lots of tannin but the tannin is very ripe. With some air and rich food suddenly everything snaps into place and you can start to see where this is headed. Would love to try again in 10 years.

Drank alongside the 97 and Grivot Richebourg 93. Stood out very well initially. Beautiful sweetish nose of red fruits in contrast to the restraint spiciness of th 97.Good balance on the palate. Drying out as the evening wore on. Fruits were not holding. Still very pleasant.

Quince Rob Reb Rob – A stunning and masterful wine. Wow, the glories of Burgundy! A great age where there is this balance of the fruit and spice (cherry, espresso, jasmine tea) and development (shitake mushroom, chocolate, ashy tar). Dark color, a tad of bricking beginning. Assertive nose of hemoglobin/blood, fresh herbs, chopped mushroom, bitter chocolate and jasmine teas. Fascinating palate that delivers something different with every sip – chocolate covered cherries, purple basil, damp musky cave, chilled raspberry, even a bit of a chocolate donut element. Mind numbing!

Sotheby's Tasting (New York, NY): Wine tasting. Very spicy nose with intense strawberry flavors. Same fruit continues on to the palate along with light Asian spice. Mushroom earthiness is tarting to emerge in the middle and on the finish. Really great length with lots of nuance and complexity. I think this is just now approaching its zenith.

Best Bottle with Zachy's @FFF (Fritz Frau Frazi Düsseldorf): blind
I guessed Burgundy but the nose was reluctant, fruit is still present but is diminishing, tertiary aromas but the finish is too short. At his Peak for me. 93
