Enjoyed over 2 nights, nose of black berry, black cherry, and sage, same on the palate, big body, showing well both nights, tasty, mouth filing fruit, not a great vintage but great winemaking scored well here, and a long, lovely chocolate finish, time to drink up even if you have great storage, photo uploaded.

I am drinking a couple of verticals bought at the winery almost 20 years ago. Of course they should have been drunk earlier. We drank the 1998 Napa 3 months ago and it was very similar to this. There is a slightly funky scent, some bricking, decent acidity and civilized tannins. Not what what this wine was famous for but still very drinkable. I remember writing a similar note for the ‘’97.

Part of 4 vintage tasting. Familiar oak nose. Wine had aged more than the 97. Much lighter and less structure than 94 - 97. Still fine wine but wouldn’t wait any longer, drink up

Perhaps it was the setting (celebrating my wife and my 20th Anniversary at the best steak house in Seattle), or the sentimentality of the wine (it was from my late fathers cellar...May God Rest his Soul ), but this could have been the best Silver Oak I’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting. Decanted for over an hour and was drinking exceptionally well...plenty of distinctive character, but smooth! The sommelier told us the 98’ was a special vintage as it was Meyers last as Head wine maker...tried to find more info regarding this online but can’t find. At any rate a really fantastic wine drinking beautifully at 20 years! (Had been cellared well over the years) Wish I had several more, but grateful we could enjoy our 20th with a classic!

Opened it last night with my first shot at sous vide beef filets. Had held up well. Seemed tannic when first uncorked, but opened out nicely. My first exclamation on tasting it was "black cherry soda!" The wine looks tawny colored. The legs are medium. There is heavy sediment in the bottle.

Forgot to put my note in on this. haven't had any Silver Oak in years and honestly was expecting either a dead wine or a bad one. I got neither. This bottle was fantastic from the word jump. Fantastic nose. Leather, red fruit, spice and earth. No dill to speak of. Med bodied on the palate. Extremely tasty and drinkable. Nice finish with tannins fully resolved and some acidity backing everything up making sure this stayed in balance.
Very surprised with this bottle of wine. Wow.

Cork came out flawlessly with an Ah So.....ended with a copious amount of powder fine sediment. In between? Just a hint of garnet color with slight raisining on the nose. Still some power on entry with lots of red fruit, maybe some blue, too. Tons of earth, forest floor and eucalyptus remaining. Plenty of smooth but long lingering dry tannin on the finish. Even though there are elements here like the forest floor, eucalyptus and tannins that will play out for a few more years, I can't imagine the color, nose or fruit profile lasting much longer. If you have it you'd better drink it, IMO.

Paired with fresh fruit, and porcini crusted filet mignon-the Flemings Mother's Day Brunch Menu. Lovely rich mocha, black cherry, sage, white pepper, and dill on the nose, the dill faded during dinner, more of the same on the palate, medium body, almost elegant, tasty, enjoyed by all the servers, long, lovely mocha finish.

Typical SIlver Oak dill, probably not the best year but was delicious with a steak. I don't think it had lost it's punch but probably wouldn't leave it too much longer.

Bought 2 bottles for $83 each at auction, picked it up and promptly opened one for dinner, nose of red and black fruit, dill and mocha, more of the same on the palate, medium body, at its peak and should last another 4 years, tasty, well balanced with acid, has a long fruity finish.

Classic Silver Oak Flavor. Main concern was reading other postings regarding this vintage posted in 2012. My last tasting this vintage 2009. This 1998 bottle (my last of this vintage) retained it's integrity, nose and distinctive flavor profile. It was truly smooth, exceptionally multidimensional with a depth not expected for this wine at this age. I am a firm believer that due to the fact it was purchased originally from the winery and the bottle had not moved from my cellar in all these years contributed to it's longevity. Quite the surprise. The wine looks dark Garnet in color. The legs are Medium in the glass. The body is Medium/Full. The wine has Smooth texture and finishes Long. It smells like Fig, and Prune. Flavor profile included cassis, ripe plum.

Thanks to Mike for bringing this treat. Even though it was 10 years old, it was still a very young wine. I have had many aged California cabs, and this still tastes very young. Rich, complex, with a lingering finish -- a real treat. In contrast to earlier reviews, this was from a magnum, which I think made all the difference.

Probably not their best effort - who am i to judge - but by the time i had it, it may have been beyond it's peak; but, i still love the style of the wine, and certainly you could tell it 'had' good structure; still, nice palate with classic oak, ripe berry, and soft tannins...unfortunately, slight mustiness overall took away from the overall experience.
