This is still drinking well at 17 years. Tasted immediately after opening and at 1 hour, 2, 3 and 4 hours in the decanter. No benefit waiting more than an hour. Still plenty of Dark fruits (black berries, dark cherries). Fruits tend to fade quickly in the glass but a fresh pour from the decanter brings them back. After 4 hours the fruit doesn't stay as long. Mouth feel is velvety with pleasant soft integrated tannins and mild to moderate acidity. Moderate finish with quick fade of dark fruits to leather. Very enjoyable. Should still have life after 2023.

Plums and blackcurrants on the nose, with a little toast and some red berries. The first sip was disappointingly bland, so much so that I opened a Branaire-Ducru 06 instead, but I was proved wrong - a few hours later it had opened beautifully, with very silky notes of blackcurrant and plum, then a little spicy blackberry, and wafts of dark raspberry, hints of wild strawberry, plus a little menthol midpalate. It's simply excellent, a classic combination of silky elegance and real depth midpalate. The best Clos du Marquis I have ever had. **93 pts**

Full decant for about 60 minutes before we dipped into this. Noticed some fine sediment in the bottle and on the side of the decanter but otherwise no issues until the dregs of the last glass. Soft but expressive nose of red currants and persimmon with hints of toast and baking spices; opens up with a bit more darker fruit, plum and blackberry but the aromas remain soft and "clean". Hard to describe this most interesting characteristic of the nose, not quite ethereal and perfumed but pure enough to discern the particular notes form the background. The palate is very soft as well, adding some earthy tertiary elements to the primary components on the nose- blackberries off the cane, seeds and all, plus plum skin and cigar wrapper on the finish. Aged for sure, lower in both acid and tannin but remains in balance; the only real signs of aging are the tertiary notes and the quicker than expected finish. 16 years on this is still showing well, though glad I finished these of without waiting too much longer. I have to reiterate that 2006 was an underrated vintage in Bordeaux for sure. Not much sub-$50 Bordeaux from 2006 still out on the market, so I am kicking this up a few points for value. Overall Evaluation A- (92).

Very nice St. Julien from a rather challenging year. Classic left bank nose with graphite, cassis and some cedar elements. First obvious signs of evolution with leather, some tobacco and faint earthy notes. Still with considerable acid and tannins, which add to the overall elegant and fresh impression. A bit more depth and a stronger fruit core and the rating would even be higher. Not sure it has the stuffing for another decade - I’d probably start drinking up (although there’s no rushing necessary).

Excellent, and drinking at its prime right now in 2020. Nose has knit together into a warm, rich, mushroom-box impression. Palate is rich and still a bit fruity. Finish is longer than I have a right to expect from a St. Julien. Really good.

Quick notes on my phone- floral nose, smooth red fruits and earth with hints of wild berries and some pomegranate too. Decent acidity but on the lower side, drying tannins fade to a nice apple skin element. Tons of sediment but drinking well at 13. Overall evaluation: A- (90).

Surprisingly more blue fruits and violet rather than the classic black currant flavors. Lots of tannins on the back end with well pitched acid overall. If it was a blind I would've guessed a relatively young Margaux wine. Enjoyable today but may be more interesting to try five years later.

WSET, Level 3 Advanced Certifcation Training; 3/11/2018-4/22/2018 (Texas Wine School at the Food & Wine Foundation of Texas, Austin, TX): Tasting sample. Clear, deep ruby color. Developed aromatics displaying medium plus nose of blackberry, black currant, cedar oak, and black mulchy soil. Reflects primary, secondary and tertiary aromatics. A dry red with medium plus flavors of blackberry, black cherry, black plum, cedar mulch, and dark earth and forest floor. Medium alcohol, and medium plus body. Tannins and acidity are both medium plus which sets up a long persistent finish. Well balanced, concentrated intensity, long length, and decent complexity. This is an outstanding wine which can drink now, but has the potential for further aging.

Predominately red currants (with hints of black currants) and a peppery tobacco finish. Solid body, lower acidity but good tannic structure. Showing some aged development and drinking well; really enjoying how the 2006's have developed.
Style & Quality: A- (90). Tannins integrating nicely and enjoying the earthy tobacco finish that comes with age. Would want to see more development and complexity before earning that higher eval.
Value: 90 (A-). A solid wine from the estates of LLC that offers definite value for the price as compared to the grand vin (IMO). $47 / bottle JJB.

Emirates flight. Dark garnet, good, solid Bdx, could do with a bit more fruit concentration as the wood is noticeable on the attack, crunchy mid palate. Does not seem to require further aging, and I liked this a touch more 5 years ago. 90

Dark red in the centre, lighter at the rim but little sign of maturity. Nice nose of plums, coffee, cedar. Palate has some drying tannins, but also some black fruits. Still needs some time, but went well with sirloin steak.

This was a tale of two vintages. I had planned on opening the 2006 but after popping the cork I realized I grabbed the '05. Well I decanted this at 4pm knowing it would need a couple of hours. At 5pm I then decided to open and decant the '06 and do a tiny vertical, what the heck. Upon opening the '05 was very backward while the '06 had a softer, fruity note to it so I then decided to tape up the labels and do an A/B comparison with my wife as we had these with grilled Prime sirloin (delicious and from Costco BTW). The "A" bottle ended up being the 06 and during dinner that seemed to be the preference. However, around 10 pm we were relaxing listening to music and the "B" bottle really came around with well rounded fruit and some soft vanilla notes. Again I still did not know which vintage was A or B but the "B" bottle really opened nicely while the A was kind of stuck in place. The reveal showed the B was the 2005 and speaks to the power of that vintage and the need to continue to HOLD these wines for maximum enjoyment. A fun test all in the name of wine science!

Bright ruby color. Red and black fruit bouquet is laced with cherries, unlit cigar, a little forest action, and that singed earth note so typical of Bordeaux wines. Tight at first pour, with firm-grained tannins, good weight, and flavors that match the nose. Develops a hint of black olives, spices on the grippy finish, and a persistent cherry aftertaste. Decant.

Showing secondary notes of olive tapenade, cedar, cigar wrapper and juicy cassis, while firm in character, the wine can be enjoyed today with an hour or two of decanting.

Deep dark center, red/purple rim with only modest signs of age. Still a little primary, roast plums, a little black currant, some barnyard. Smooth, asian spices, slightly stalky, black cherries, plums, integrated oak, modest tannins, good length of darker red fruit. Drinking very well now.

Coravin'ed. Nice dark rubis-garnet colour. On the nose, the aromas are timid, but are very nice. Black cherries, blackberries, liquorice, cedar, tobacco and a touch of cocoa. On the palate, the attack is frank with very present tannons, though well polished, good acidity, and continuation of aromas from the nose. Good length. If you want to drink this wine now, it should be accompanied by something that will gum the tannins, like a rare steak. 90

No notes, but excellent St. Julien. Near purple colour. Lost the slight volcanic sulphurous smell that I noticed last time, and fruits are not quite as pronounced either. Tannins were smooth a silky. Classified Growth in all but name. Medium-to-full bodied. Likely at its peak but I would expect this to be enjoyable for another 8 to 10 years.

Appearance: Bright and clear, it has deep purple color with legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherries, pungent spice of licorice, oak notes of cedar, maturity notes of savory and cigar-box, kernel notes of chocolate. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin which is integrated and silky. Medium in alcohol, it has medium (+) body showing medium intensity flavors of black fruit of plum, blackberry and dark cherries, oak notes of cedar, maturity notes of cigar leaves, sweet spice of cloves. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Good quality Bordeaux left bank with a fairly intense nose showing good complexity, the wine may not have the fine elegance but certainly having the structure, demonstrating good development. With reasonable concentration and finish on the palate, it is ready to drink now but can further develop for another 1-2 years.

Dark crimson turning violet at the rim with a transparent edge. The nose is attractive with notes of lilac, roses, chocolate and blackberries. The palate is full-bodied, ultra-elegant with a soft, silky texture that flows effortlessly through. Flavors of black currant, pencil lead, mocha, tobacco, and dried oregano. Very balanced, delicate and graceful. Clos du Marquis may seem somewhat pricey, but certainly transcends beyond its scores, such as the 2000, 2001, 2004, and 2005. Finishes long with silky, elegant tannins. Drink now until 2026.

Ruby red, tinged with orange on the rim. Lovely, perfumed nose of cassis and stewed fruit. Dark tones but primary entry, velvety and meaty across the palate. Wash of crushed stone shows nice tension and integration though. Medium finish. A 90 because it has no real flaws. Decant an hour-plus. First time tasting this 2nd label, very nice 06, and glad I have '05 and '09.

The last Clos du Marquis I had must have been the '99 because this is smelling much more primary fruit and less handsmooth leather than I remember. Blue and black fruit, nice graphite, complex right off the cork pull. Palate is fairly tense, yet wonderfully harmonious. I'd say with a decant its time to start drinking but no need to rush.

Bordeaux 2006 from Magnum (Tanglin Club wine circle, Singapore): Medium ruby with purple core. Nose of dark fruit, plum and a hint of oak. On the palate quite round and full. It looks like we had again more Merlot in the blend. Drinking well. Tannins were soft and provided the right amount of sappyness. Drinks well now but decanting recommended.

Perfumed nose, deep purple colour. A lot more tannic than the 2005 which I had recently, but perhaps more complex also. Paired this with a rack of lamb and ratatouille and the tannins worked well with the richness of the meat. However, tannins a bit less rounded and smooth than I would have liked. Wood was more present compared to the 2005, slightly spicy finish also. Will try other bottle in a few years or perhaps with another serving of rich meat.

Dried cherry, prune, cedar, black olive, dirt on a nose that is quite complex but takes quite a bit to open. Medium bodied with silky attack of red berries and notes of cedar, earth and bitter chocolate. The tannins are still a bit rough and the acidity quite high; perhaps it will be better in 3-4 years.

Ordered at Cut in Singapore, hence PnP with no decant and no detailed observations on color and nose. Initially a little tannic with a touch (too much) oak, this opens up however nicely within 15 minutes. A beautiful, light to medium bodied wine, which impresses with elegance and a very precise fruit. Medium plus finish. Perhaps a touch too light for those big steaks but a wonderful '06 Bdx and open for business now.

J'ai beaucoup aimé ce vin. J'aime Bordeaux!

Decanted half and drank a small portion from the botle, fairly closed but notes of floral and fuiit already showing, after 1 hour, very plesant nose of floral, minerals and fruit. Well balanced. This is the real reason you love Bordeaux. Not big and in-your-face. Not aggressive or punchy. Velvet dark berry and leather. Earthy and slightly spicy. Soft, elegant. Drink it now but maybe it will be best if kept a few years.

Nose: blackberry, cassis, black tea and cherry preserves. Slight St. Julien tobacco & earth notes. Stil very young and tightly wound. Palate: after a 3 hour decant the wine shows lots of potential in it's deep structure and two tiered palate. Black fruit, sweet tobacco and leather/barn notes. Finish: somewhat elegant with 30+ second length. Dark on the finish with some nice complexity.

Dark ruby in color...Nose: pretty much closed down at this early stage. I did get some dark fuit and minerals on the nose as the night wore on..Palate: Not showing much at all..However, this wine is extreamly smooth and silky.. This is a very elegant wine but needs another couple of years to shine. I think this has potential to be a 90 plus point wine down the road. Cheers!!

Long en bouche, ça dure longtemps, intense.

This bottle was elegant, smooth, substantial and completely without flaw or hard edges. I will buy more in this market for that reason. But on the other hand, it had almost no aroma and very little flavor. We popped and poured at first but drank it slowly over more than three hours and the development was minimal. At first there was no nose at all. Do we really have to pay $50 nowadays for a Bordeaux with a pedigree that merely is not bad? What happened to ones that are actually good for a reasonable amount of money? Or must we wait three or four years for something to be revealed? Mathematically I should go without wine for three nights and then pay $150 for its big brother the 1994 leoville las cases. If this keeps up, fine california wines like those from Williamson should put these people out of business. If not for the alcohol levels they would already have done so. If we can only convince CA and WA to bring back the golden days of 1994-2000 when those levels were reasonable. In fact one more "taste" of the tasteless clos du marquis just now makes me long for a Williamson CMH cab. I have reached the point where there are essentially no affordable good wines that are ready to drink. Patience is in order.

Mellow oak and crusty bread, and then concentrated dark fruit. Full bodied with beautiful layers of fruit - dark cherry, blackberry and some strawberry. Well integrated tannins. Admirable finish. Drinking very nicely.

Decant.
