Dull red center. Fennel and incense. Lighter weight. Cranberry and herbs with terrific soil, salinity, and acidity without being too tart. There is some sweetness of the light red fruit deep in the background, but I would not push it by holding onto this any longer.

Final of a few bottles that have had a lot of variation. This was not one of the better examples. Muted red fruits, not enough acidity. Better with food than on its own.

Last of my clutch of these and maybe the best. Blue fruit and spice on the nose. The palate is light and refreshing, much lighter than its dense colour suggests. A little prickle of refermentation lasts on the tongue, but any brett or funk has been absorbed into the wine. Delicious red fruit and a hint of cherry cola, a slight medicinal quality lasts pleasantly on the clean finish. Lithe and vibrant and complex. Just delicious.

An ever evolving nose that started with classic bojo funk but rather quickly yielding red fruits, moist earth & spicy/floral undertones. On the palate this wine is super juicy with bright red cherries & sous bois. High acid and excellent structure. In the zone now. Drink up!

Red fruit, wet asphalt, cherries, spices, and a hint of soap on the nose. Great acidity with more red berries and pomegranate on the palate. Nice finish.

I think this got a little better in the past two years. The fruit and the texture is still there but it's gotten some mushroom complexity. There's some barnyard and a savory aspect to it now, kind of like umami. Great bottle.

Deep cherry red. Smooth nose , slightly natural, tight wound fruit. Beautiful balanced fruit on palate , plenty of depth , fresh good length. So drinkable and refreshing but with lots of class. Lovely wine

From what I remember of the 2014 Foillard Cote du Py i had this summer, this Les Charmes is more acidic, a little more tannic and has a more obvious stemmy component. Since vinification and soil composition seems to be the same, the difference in style should be attributable to elevation level of the vineyards with Les Charmes the highest placed. Anyway, this is fresh and offers violet, bright cherries, strawberry, herbs and granite. Less obviously ”natural” than many other Foillards in that it doesn’t feel ”thick” from non-filtering and also doesn’t carry any barnyard that I can tell. Very good!

As an avid Foillard Morgon fan, I was surprised to find this cuvée neither typical nor particularly enjoyable. It could be, despite the wonderful 2014 vintage, that this needs a few years. But even then, the racier edge, less lush gamay profile and the loss of fruit on the nose after 15 minutes suggest a different style. Good crisp red fruits at the outset, nicely delineated. A somewhat jarring acid backbone yields to a bit of balance with wet soil, raspberry and high toned cherry notes. Hold for 2years.

Un Morgon juteux et tout en fraîcheur. Il m’apparait Par contre beaucoup moins complexe que les autres cuvées et plus proche du simple Morgon de Foillard. Du négoce.

Not very Gamay like. More meaty, smoky like Syrah. Really like this. Not sure if it's the a few years in bottle makes the difference. A few days later, hold up extremely well, smoky nose, good on palate, even tho not very long, as the wine is not high on either acid or tanin.

Decanted for 1.5h. Lovely melange of mostly blackberries with a hint of blueberries, herbs, minerals, and earth with a hint of bubblegum. Tart red cherries on palate, bitter herbs, minerals, pine needles, and forest floor earth. Mild tannins on mid-palate with excellent acids frame the structure. Juicy and earthy but with brightness and liveliness. Nice finish. Good stuff.

Flowers, cherries, red berries, and a hint of rhubarb on the expressive nose. Nice acidity with dark cherries, orange, and asian spices on the palate. Long, lingering finish. This is everything I want from a Beaujolais. 93+ Wife: 94

What James Kim said. Herbs on the nose, depth and some balanced structure and acidity on the palate. I’d keep a bottle or two for the long haul to see if and if so how this transforms, but it is drinking well right now.

From memory. Decanted for 1.5h. Lovely aromas of red and black fruits, herbs, a hint of bubblegum and earth. Palate follows with more minerals and nice concentration of flavors, depth and weight. Lively with a more fun attitude than Cotes du Puy but still with an underlying seriousness. Nicely done.

Really fun to serve this to a group of people who mostly think Nouveau when they hear Beaujolais. There is still a whole bowl of berries that comes with opening this wine, but it is grounded by big leathery notes on both the nose and palate, a slightly green herbaceous note and has a fair degree of acid and tannin. This is drinking well right now, but there is a ton of life in this and should evolve for a good number of years.
Once again, I'm finding that across the board I really prefer the more "classic" '14's to the more flamboyant '15 Beaujolais Crus wines.

More similar to Camille from Lapierre than to Foillard's own Côte du Py. This tastes more "natural" but rounder, fluffier than Côte du Py. It isn't denser but it's got more volume. It is pillowy. It's funny to see people taste a wine like this for the first time. They are completely taken by surprise. The thoughts of Bordeaux, Napa and Barossa go out the window. This is such great wine "making" Truly artesanal wine-making.

Opened this and came back after an hour or two. Pure and clear fruit - blackberry, cherry, and black raspberry, touch of funk, some florals, minerality, and green-red herbal crunch. Beautiful mouth feel - lively acid giving it a citric and cranberry taste, red and dark fruits, spices, game bird, herbs, rocks. The finish is even more citric/acidic, with a healthy dose of that green herbal and rocks. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15.5/20.

Interesting nose, red cherries and notes of juniper (or is it Chartreuse verte?), liquorous but fresh, good depth; the palate has all the characteristics of a youthful, modern Morgon, bright and fresh but not as mineral and a bit more supple than a Côte du Py, with notes of green apple and wet walnut; complete finish, good length. At restaurant Café Sillon, Lyon, France.
Foillard is a genius when it comes to his single vineyards Morgon. Les Charmes Eponym is such an elegant and delicious wine. Perfect Beaujolais nose of ripe raspberry and fresh blackberry with hits of smoke and crushed stones. Really juicy and easy drinking, perfect balance acidity with lots of fruit, juniper and minerals on the palate.

Really too tight to rate at this point, but I think this will be very good with some additional time. Right now, both the nose and palate are pretty tightly coiled and a leathery note dominates both, with some herbaceous accents and a savory saline component. The fruit reads sort of generically tart and red, but that seems to be more a function of youth. There is excellent acid and, relative to Beaujolais, there is nice tannic structure. Given time, I think this will blossom into something special.
