  • opened up day 2 as others mentioned - much brighter acidity/fruit dimension than when first opened. tannins still showing youth, medium finish only.

  • This was significantly better the second day after opening and sitting in the fridge. Some pretty grippy tannins right now even on the second day.

  • Opened the bottle 30 minutes ago, the aroma of cedar, coal and cassis takes flight, dry and lean with muscular stature, flavors of plum, blackberry and tobacco notes emerge and delight, immensely elegant, structured to age a bit but it is drinking well now

  • Bordeaux 2019 (Dan Murphy's, Lane Cove): With this wine the oak is immediately far less prevalent on the nose; it shows fresh, slightly crunchy, blackcurrant, pyrazine, slightly herbaceous notes show a touch of mint. Medium plus intensity acidity, fruit crunchy here as well though less well delineate with a little red fruit joining the black, tannins are grainy and in support. Long, fresh. Yum.

  • Left this open overnight in the cellar to air a bit. Well worth it. More black cherry in color than red or purple, it is nonetheless quite opaque. The nose (today) is quite dazzling, showing a complex range of purple flowers, cassis and plum. Just a tad hollow in the mouth, it still sports very good flavor for a $25 (at Costco) wine, and would easily best the vast majority of CA cabs in this price range. It is definitely a Bordeaux in the more classic style, showing restraint and some power. Certainly one could age this but I don't know if the fruit is enough to make for old bones. And why bother?? With a good decant, you can enjoy this now and not tempt the gods of fate. 5-13-15-8: 91/100.

  • Popped and poured. This is solid for an unclassified St. Estephe. Strong color. More or less opaque. There is some decent rich fruit here, with nice minerality. Tobacco when first opened has faded a bit. Decent richness in the mouth. Could easily pass for a classified growth. 5-11-16-8: 90/100. Definitely worth Costco's $24.99 price.

  • This opaque ruby wine is a blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Decanted through a Vinturi aerator and subsequently sampled over two hours, it serves up lots of tarry black cherries and red fruits that are accented with notes of lavender, licorice, tobacco and dried herbs. Medium-bodied, freshly acidic, judiciously oaked and with seamless alcohol (13.5%), it wraps its flavors with medium-weight tannins that carry some grip. Dense in the middle and medium-to-long but chewy on the back end, this young Saint Estèphe lacks elegance now but may very well merit a higher score after some cellaring. Drink 2027-2044.

  • Luscious and open, with well-knit, silky tannins and a pretty aftertaste. Blackberries, sultana, caissons, pipe tobacco and cherries. A medium finish, with a full, plush body. Drink now - 2035.

  • Bought at Costco. Opened early against suggested drinking window. Does not in any way exhibit St Estephe characteristics. Far more fruit forward, much more closely resembles right bank than left (tasted blind, I'd assume this was a merlot-based right bank for sure).
Not bad per se, just not reflective of the style of StE. Would not buy again.

  • The leafy, herbal, and woody notes are predominant, along with good acidity. The fruit has tart berry flavors, but the overall effect is clumsy and disjointed. Okay, but not something I would buy again.

  • Overall: ripe Bordeaux that is approachable young but with enough structure to hang out in the cellar a decade or so

Appearance: deep, nearly opaque purple/ruby, leaves some color on the glass when swirled

Nose: fruit forward with blackberry and plum, light floral notes, nondescript baking spices, cedar, smokey meatiness, pepper, some sweaty “body odor” in there but not off putting

Palate: medium acid, medium-full body, medium-high firm tannins; cassis, some herbs, some woody/earthy/cellar notes, fairly simple

Finish: long, very dry, pleasant, some wood tannins show up

  • Ten 2019 Left Bank Offerings: Enjoyed over a long afternoon and evening.

Air brought out the wine's finest qualities...including agreeable St. Estèphe terroir.

Excellent bouquet, wholly expressive of traditional Left Bank wines. As with many 2019 offerings, the back and finish showed an unbalanced bite. Wholly enjoyable for what it is. A fine pairing with homemade steak frites in a Stilton cream sauce.

  • Four 2019 Left Bank Offerings: Slightly less oaky than the same vintage Clerc Milon...but no less excessively polished. Lacking the substance that defines Left Bank Bordeaux. No greater than medium acid and light tannin. Seemingly crafted for near term appeal. Another Californicated Bordeaux. Better QPR than the Clerc Milon and Madame de Beaucaillou.

  • Loads of black cherry and currant here, with hints of cigar box and integrated oak weaving in. There's a freshness to the acidity and brisk tannins add tension on the finish. Terrific value for Bordeaux.

  • I wasn't particularly impressed with this. I liked it more on day 1, but found it rather mediocre on days 2/3. Rather nondescript and not particularly St-Estephe, this shows blackberry and cassis fruit and lots of mocha. Pleasant, but one-dimensional.

  • The tobacco, wet earth, dark cherries, smoke, and spice nuances come through easily on the nose. On the palate, the wine is even better with loads of bright, fresh, spicy, chewy red berries with ample freshness. Rounding everything out, the finish lingers with a nice spicy touch with just a hint of chocolate in the endnote. Drink from 2024-2038.

  • With good color, the wine is fresh, fruity, round and deep. The finish is all about the ripe, juicy, earthy, blackberries, cigar wrapper, spice and espresso notes that carry. This is another top vintage for Chateau Le Boscq and will age quite nicely. The wine is blended from 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot with 2% Cabernet Franc. 91-93 Pts
