  • -- decanted 45 min. before initial taste --
    -- tasted non-blind over 1.5 hrs on Day 1; revisited on Day 6 --

NOSE: Day 1: vaguely red-fruited, with some florals; a bit earthy; medium+ expressiveness. Day 6: dark red fruits; strong mineral note; soapy florals.

    BODY: medium bodied.

TASTE: Day 1: medium+ to high acidity --- juicy; can feel the alc. a bit (labelled at 13.5%); a light TCA-esque note on the palate. Day 6: very bitter and oaky, but at least that TCA-like note is gone. Confusing showing.

  • Dark reddish-purple garnet in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruits aromas of cherries, black currants & cassis with overtones of floral notes of violets & dusty/earthy notes, spices, cocoa/coffee, tobacco, minerals, camphor & a hint of vanilla/oak. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & red currants with herbs, minerals, spices, anise, cocoa & vanilla/oak. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but should develop further with additional aging. An indicative blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot.

  • Deep ruby colour. Medium and developing nose with blackcurrant, green bell pepper, eucalyptus, black pepper, cloves, cedar and violet. Medium (+) taste of blackcurrant, green bell pepper, eucalyptus, black pepper, vanilla, cloves and cedar. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium tannins. Medium body. A very good Margaux that needs time. Drink in eight to fifteen years. Goes well with beef or lamb.

  • Bordeaux 2022 en Primeur and some recent vintages: A winery long run by the same team as Giscours. I remember it as a rather simple wine. Today, however, it showed surprisingly well, clearly some progress has been made. The 2019 is very charming. Lots of Bordeaux for little money.

  • The 2019 iteration of Château du Tertre is comprised of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. This particular bottle was decanted through a Vinturi aerator and serially sampled over the ensuing three hours, during which time it continued to improve. Opaque crimson in color, it flaunts an aromatic profile of black currants, dark plums, violets, cedar, pipe tobacco, baking spices and loamy earth. Medium-bodied, freshly acidic, judiciously oaked and with well-integrated alcohol (13.5%), it delivers flavors congruent with the aromas. The medium-weight tannins are very fine-grained, making for a soft-textured wine that (even at this early stage) is very easy to drink. Dense on the mid-palate and medium-to-long on the back end, this is a charming, feminine du Tertre that should reach its twentieth birthday with grace. If you choose to pop the cork now, give it plenty of air. Drink now-2039.

  • Blackberry, cassis, pencil lead; smooth and enveloping; lingering and slightly titillating; fairly long and quite good

  • Not a wine with structure but it's a wine that is easy to like already this young.
    Cassis with soft tannins.
Perfect with a saint agure cheese. I think I need some for my cellar.

  • There's just not much interesting here.
    No typicity.
Nothing here that reflects its varietal origins.
Nothing that would tell me I had just uncorked a Bordeaux, let alone a Margaux.
Or even anything from the eastern or western, northern or Southern Hemispheres.
This seems like the end result of 40 years of manipulation and fraud in French winemaking.
It is "only" 13.5 percent but it nonetheless seems hot. A 13.5% wine that seems like a 15%er, who would have thunk.
This seems like the end result of 40 years of hot drama from Bordeaux.
I for one have had just about enough of the drama from Bordeaux.
(It's like the recent US election. We've had enough of your bullshit, Trumpers/Bordeaux.)
Really? 40 years after 1982, THIS is what Margaux has to offer?
If this is Margaux, I'm Sally Smith.
    Good grief.
    Rating: 85 points.
    Gag me.

  • A mixture of red and dark berry fruit. It has the classic Margaux soft and gentle mouthfeel, while also having good concentration and intensity. Secondary nuances of dried herb and graphite. Oak is seamlessly integrated into the wine. As it airs the red fruit gives way to darker fruit. Texture becomes even smoother. This has a good life ahead of it.

  • Union des Grands Crus: The nose here is clean, red-fruited, and vaguely floral. There are touches of green and pencil; slightly light on the palate but not thin. This should develop nicely.

  • UGC Bordeaux (Union Station - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting. Rich start softens towards its long-ish finish as its also slightly firms up. Still good to enjoy on the younger side with its medium+ density.

  • Medium-bodied, earthy, savory, spicy and loaded with, fresh red fruits that range from sweet to tart. The wine finishes with dusty tannins and a savory, spicy quality. This will be best with a few years of age. Drink from 2024-2039.

  • Amsterdam UGCB Tasting (Beurs van Berlage): Supple and generous, especially in the context of the vintage, lemon balm, tannins are a bit raw though and the flavours are a bit muddled.

2025-2040. vvWine.ch

  • Arvi Bordeaux 2019 Arrivage (Dolder Grand, Zurich): Tasting of 25 wines (2 whites, 3 sweet, no first growths) at a Bordeaux 2019 in the bottle event. My observations were: i/ the tannic structure was soft and well-integrated across the board, ii/ the fruit was generally fresh and light with no heavy-handed extractions, iii/ Top wines were Client (97), Léoville Barton (96) and Smith Haut Lafitte (96). More thoughts and list of wines included in the tasting story.

    Tasting note:
Lush, with some mineral and floral perspectives, also mushrooms. Unfortunately what followed was a one-dimensional palate, pretty fruity and lacking in harmony.

Sehr harmonisch. 2025-2036. 90- (Juni 2020)

  • Echantillon prélevé le 26 Mai, a blend of 54% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. Polished nose, lovely depth, spicy warmth; relatively light palate with a green streak, tight and drying finish. Not easy to appreciate now and not easy to see where this is going to. 89-91.

  • Fresh, elegant, medium-bodied, graceful style of Margaux here. The fruit is silky and sweet, with round, lush tannins and a finish of ripe, juicy red fruits, blackberry and a hint of blueberry. This gem is going to be delicious in its youth, and it will age well too! From a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot Franc, 13% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot, reaching 13.4%. The harvest took place September 27 until October 12. 91-93 Pts
