Initial impressions on PnP: Very heavy on the oak in the mouth, which I'd swear was American, with overpowering vanilla. Opaque purple color. Viscous. Hopefully this settles down with some air. Not fair to rate right out of the gate.

Medium ruby with high viscosity and staining (14.6% ABV). Intense aromas of black plum, blackberry, cassis, vanilla, cedar, cigar box and black raspberry. The palate is dry with medium acidity and medium (+) tannins that are plush and fine-grained. Confirming the black fruit and oak on the palate- full bodied with a seductively smooth medium finish, 93 points. We are pairing this Magnum with char-grilled Ribeyes on this glorious Mother's Day. Drink till 2028, at $25 per 750 ml bottle this has to be one of the best QPR's in Cali Cabs. 5 stars!

Aromas of blackberry, currant, wild cherry and cocoa. Flavors of blackberry, wild cherry, cocoa and currant. Ends with a 15-20 second finish with berry notes. Nice wine. Bit more jammy than I remember this being.

A cognac like bouquet, old spices and scorched earth with violet and blackberries sitting quietly at the background. Need an hour for the nose to open up with an added dark chocolate dimension. Palate has a different personality. It is plummy, forward and rich filled with tobacco, crushed rocks and savoury spices. Full-bodied, good level of acidity and persistence from entry to a finish which is very long with lingering aftertaste of chewy tannins and grape skins. Nice tensions. This shows good potential for serious aging for at least the next 5 years to develop its layers of aromatic components and harmony in the structure. Probably the best Beringer’s Knight Valley I have tasted so far. 93-94 pts

Revisiting for the first time in years...this is a wine that a lot of Americans like myself cut our teeth on when we first got into wine.
Ripe blackberries, black cherries, eucalyptus, mint, green bell pepper on the nose. Overall it's greener than I expected. Only medium intensity of aromas though. The flavors are more intense and are mostly consistent with the aromas except less greenness/stem notes. Medium + body, medium + tannins. Easily identifiable as California Cab.
I was expecting this to be less restrained, more extracted and jammier. I was pleasantly surprised with what I found, and it is reassuring that you can get a textbook example of California Cab for $30 at any grocery store in the country.

Apx. one hour decant. Dark ruby. Excellent nose of cassis, cedar and dark fruits. The nose reminded me of a left bank Bordeaux, in particular like Leoville Barton. So nice to see at this modest price point. But.... the palate presents a medium to full bodied, overly extracted, sweet dark fruited wine. In sum, a great nose, but a CA sweet fruit styled palate. It's a matter of taste.

Sonoma based Cabernet Sauvignon (84%) blend that features a nicely busy nose of dried herbs, purple flowers and fresh cherries, berries, currants and figs. Dark and ripe fruit fills the pallet along with hints of black olives, coffee, tobacco, chocolate and baking spices. Full bodied and firm tannins. Bold purple color. Hint of wet gravel on the long finish. Excellent!

I bought this wine because an online review said it was approachable now. It is, but I believe it will be better in a few years. At $32 for a bottle, I do not think it is a good price point.
Value Calif. Cabernet 2018 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley ($20 Costco). Mid-dark garnet, viscous (14.6 alc.); herbaceous, ripe grape, cassis, mint, red fruit nose; mid-acids; mid-plus tannins; balanced; some depth; long slightly hot Cabernet finish. w/beef stew. 16-16.5 UC Davis scale; 90-91 other scales.

For all its hype I expected more... when you cross the $20.00 plus threshold you expect a bang.. was more of a little cap gun instead. Decent nose of dark berries with a deep ruby color gives you the impression something great is going on here. What follows is very average. A decent drinking wine with not enough flavor body or structure to make me run back for more.. Dark floral notes are there but almost no finish and whatever tightness is there doesn't lend to a big finish. Disappointed

Black cherry nose and on the palette a chocolate covered fruit. Rich and decadent for a Cabernet but lacking depth. Sweet and perhaps over-ripened fruits define the palette. A really likable wine but lacking deeper fruit than the cosmetic wine I see at the start.

Blackberries and creme de cassis, with earthy spices and a touch of mocha. Full bodied and tightly wound, with plenty of structure and complexity. It becomes more accessible with a 1+ hour decant. Very nice wine for its price.

Solid cabernet at a good price ($23). Good bright fruit, zippy mouth-watering acidity, gentle tannins. Really, the only reason I didn't score it 91-92 was because it ran a little hot with alcohol - it was pushed just a little too far in ripeness. I'll gladly run into this wine at a wedding - but I'm not stocking up my cellar.

Not the best KV Cab in recent years. Chocolate on the nose. Dark and overly extracted fruits. Notably sweet. Tastes engineered - it’s the type of wine you can open up for the second (or third) bottle of the night - however, J’Lohr gives you the same experience for less money.

And so it is again... I have never had an amazing experience with this wine. This time at least some elemental flavors came out. BKV always tastes watered down.
Color. Rich purple ink.
Nose. Brambles, chocolate powder, clove, and earth. I do like the nose more so than previous vintages.
Palate. Hits with good fruit, then that watered down feeling arises again.
Not a long term wine. Sadly. But its decent for near term enjoyment. At $30 @ bottle its a stretch to call it a value.

Based on initial tasting and 3 days later. Deep red. Prominent fruit nose. Medium + mouthfeel. I get blueberry and plum on palate. Balanced tannins gently persist to finish, longer than expected. A nice value cab.
Drank with marinated lamb chops and seasonal roasted veg.
Upon opening I was greeted by heavy note of alcohol and rather prominent tannins (to be expected given the young state of the wine). After an hour decant it mellowed quite nicely though, with the heat significantly subsiding and giving way to a nose of blackcurrant, bell pepper and vanilla. On the palate she got much softer and offered a similar palate to the nose only with some lovely roasted coffee bean at the front.
Not overly complex but as usual, a very pleasant wine to enjoy and no complaints to be had. The fact that it's so approachable in a young state is always appreciated.
