Mostly Mazis Dinner (S.K.Y. Restaurant - Chicago IL): Served alongside the 2010, this bottle had been opened/ decanted hours earlier. Wine is clearly losing steam and came across as tired and barely interesting.

Delicious wine with excellent balance and long finish. Flavors are predominantly black cherry and mushroom/earth, unmistakably Burgundy. Overall very high quality, with medium/medium+ acid and tannins still backing it all up. I did expect more complexity based on the pedigree, but still thoroughly enjoyed it.

This wine was fine -- right down the middle. Drank over two days. Modest nose, medium-dark red hue, woodsy/black cherry/mushroom to taste, modest finish. Perfectly pleasant, though one-dimensional. Drinking well now, won't improve with time.

Good Wine with a Boring Super Bowl (Chez Kailin - Northbrook IL): Social walk-around tasting, brief note. Lots of black fruit with good density, but with a slightly drying finish. This had been open for several hours and decanted before tasted, and I am wondering if this got too much air. I liked this much more when last tasted 5 years ago.

a woodsy nose of dark cherry, red licorice, leather, iron/blood type minerality, graphite on top of muscular-bodied flavors of spice and menthol infused dark cherry and cassis flavors. Bits of sandalwood and coffee come about with time. Needs 5 + more years.

Saturday night blinds (Chez Nanda, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose is tightly coiled, but still reveals red cherries, earth tones, cranberries, red berries, tobacco, spice, and smoke notes. There is good depth, but it only shows itself in glimpses.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and medium+ tannins. The tannins are still showing serious youth while the feel is refined with red cherries, earth tones, cranberries, tobacco, and some smoke.
Overall: This still isn't ready for primetime. It did flash some of its class and possibilities, but it didn't feel like it fully wanted to play.

Lives up to it's grand cru status. Elegant nose of flowers and dark fruits follows through on the palate. Drinkable with great pleasure now, but will age and gain a point or two. Tannins still front and center but balanced by abundant fruit. Long finish. If you want to open an '05 today, this is the wine for you.

Maison Champy Dinner (Sepia - Chicago IL): Popped and poured. The rare 2005 Grand Cru that is open and forthcoming today, this was large scaled and dense but also showing forward fruit and great spice, all in a meaty package. Thanks, Rocky!

Very one dimensional. There is plummy fruit on the nose and palate...not a great pinot.

Clear medium light red. Very funky, mushroom, tilled soil, red cherry and spice. Delicious dry earthy cherry flavours and a very balanced dry finish.
I love Champy.

A very impressive wine, a true masculine Gevrey, far too young but already so beautiful. Drink 2015 - 2045. At restaurant Le Caprice, 5th Avenue, NYC.
