Stitching itself together nicely after a two hour decant. Reassessing my window here. Prime time might be around 2025 and still really good and powerful now. Fruit is just a touch over ripe on day two, but still plenty of structure. Thinking long term window might be around 2030 for my palate.

Solid Napa Cab- Ripe Dark Cherry with an Earthy Cedar note. Well balanced with just enough Tannin to keep all the flavours together. Finishes with a hint of Pepper.

A mea culpa. I have not drank many "top" end Napa cabs (and maybe this is not an example of same). Most Napa's I have drank are fruit forward, jammy and not really my style. I am more a left bank Bordeaux fan. Bought this because, for the second year in a row, it was awarded a best in show in the Decanter World Wine Awards. Clearly worth a go. Definitely not what I expected. While not austere that word came to mind. There was nothing lush about the wine. The wine was a dark magenta in the glass. The nose was muted but what there was brambles. The palette was mouth puckering. Some more bramble but a streak of iron and Oregon grape. Mouth watering acidity, substantial but not over powering tannins. It is clearly young. I have great anticipation for the development of this wine and am very glad I bought enough to try 3, 5 and more years out. 91 for now but believe that the next note will be more generous. I should try more Napa's, clearly they are not all fruit and flab.
Nose: Opened up after 45 minutes to reveal sweet and pure black cassis, black cherry fruit with a touch of mineral.
Pal: Smooth, lush, supple. Full body. Very good concentration. Excellent balance. Ripe tannins. 14.2% alc.
Tonight: 92 solid.
92-94 potential. This would develop more complexity with a few years of aging. This should be phenomenal particularly between 2026 - 2028. If you have the patience to wait.
Beautiful wine and excellent value in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Trefethen, per usual.

N: black plum, black currant, cherries, tomato paste, dark chocolate, bramble, toasted spices, vanilla, cedar, tobacco
P: black plum, black currant, dried cherries, toasted black pepper,
Dry, medium (+) tannins, medium (+) acidity, full body, high alcohol, long finish
This is a big, intense Napa Cab bursting with fruit flavors without being jammy. The tannins are definitely present on the palate, but they're rounded and integrated. The alcohol is very hot and it feels higher than the 14.2% listed. It's worth drinking now, but I'm looking forward to trying another in 3 to 5 years.

Popped and poured at cellar temp and it’s a deep opaque magenta with medium viscosity and body in glass. On the nose I pick up blue fruit tones with a ripeness of strawberry and a candied apple after opening up. Still a gripping tannic hit on the palette that gives way to a nice dark fruited medium finish.

Tannin and oak forward. Looking for it to open up a bit and it shows dark fruits forward somewhat lacking in terroir and complexity but a very serviceable wine for the price point. Hitting above its weight class at $35-40 but hitting below at $60-65 imho.

I am looking to pair Eye of Round roast which has been cooking in the sous vide for 20 hours. A Napa Cabernet is called for. This wine is opaque and a very pretty purple in the glass. The nose screams Napa sunshine- bright blackberry aromas with black plum, cloves, charred wood, black tea and vanilla. The palate is quite intense with black fruit, oak nuances juicy acidity and medium tannins that carry through to the very end. The blackberry flavors are very prominent in this one, they duke it out on the back end with the tannins to see who lasts the longest. Th oak usage is very deft and well played. I like the balance of this wine and it has a medium to full body. The 14.2% ABV is barely noticeable but I did get a whiff of it on the nose. Still young- this one will cellar nicely till 2030 but if you like a dry, slightly tannic wine then pop-n-pour right away. 92 points from me make this $50 wine a 5 star effort.

Popped and aerated into glass. It pours crimson red with medium viscosity. On the nose there is a blue fruited tone which is rather absent on the palette. Touted as a screaming buy, by many.....touted as a high scorer by 'experts'. Had to see for myself. First of 3 bottles.
1st night: it's drinkable from the pnp. Almost black in the glass, it's so dark. Only a thin dark magenta meniscus gives it away....big, dark fruit, somewhat tightly coiled/tannic, it opens after an hour or two enough to enjoy it. It 'feels' well made and certainly it's quality fruit. There's a ton of dark berries, a little cassis and a hint of iron ore toward the back palate. Acidity and tannins are robust.....I'd give it a 90 but with potential to go higher......until the 2nd night.
Left a good 10 oz pour in the bottle overnight, open, no cork, just sitting out on the bar counter. So now, 24 hours of air.....still very dark in the glass, nose of muted dark berry fruit and charcoal embers. Front palate has tart dark fruit, chewy tannins, high toned acidity and the tart fruit turns redder and increases through to the finish which is average at best. 87 the 2nd night, but again, with potential. Will come back tomorrow night and grade what's left for the 3rd day. Yes, there's a lot of there, there for a $35 bottle of Napa cab, but if this doesn't come together better, I wouldn't buy any more.
I have to agree with nearly everything Mark1npt noted about this 2018 CS... The only difference being that I hold much more confidence that the Trefethen will shed some youthful imbalance as it matures. Hope I'm right.
Needs some time to integrate better but man this is tough to beat at about $30 locally. The 14.2% ABV feels higher to me but time will help this I think. Three days to finish this brute, dark, tannic, and an herbal note too. A distinct but subtle dusty texture to this wine, which I liked.
Earthy dark fruits blackberry and blueberry on the nose, enter the palate delicately slightly fruit forward, medium to full bodied and moderately long finish and acidic. Opens up nicely after a couple hour decant. Still too early, looking forward to how this develops over next 3-4 years.
