This wine got away from me after 4 moves in the last 3 years. A little past its prime. Slightly oxidized and the fruit is a little bit pruned. Some interesting red fruit and rose flower aromas.

I'm finding the wine to be slightly oxidized and massively alcoholic, especially on the nose (the labeled 14.2% seems much hotter than this) with sweet smoked meat, and overly-sweetish dark fruit ... The kicker is the off-putting finish Plastic cork.

Sort of losing it now, but you can still find what we're talking about: nice stuffing and great French-your-mouth-feel at first -- sweet sediments w/ that stained and blue flavor. Totally nice ideas from a few years earlier. Then, nothing to offer secondarily and didn't finish the taste.
On a scale of 50-100 with 75-79 being average, there is no way this wine could be considered anything but below average. It is reductive, monolithic, jammy, over extracted, and completely lacking in acid balance. This is cheesecake. This is Pamela Anderson, and a flabby version at that. I suppose I don't drink enough California wine but this seems to me to be just plain 'no good'. This resembles a northern Rhone Syrah the way a Prius resembles a Lamborghini.
Great QPR, and drinking almost perfectly now. Wasn't as wildly overextracted as I'd been led to expect, both from CT notes and from other recent ventures into Rosenblumia. Dense mouthfeel, nice aromatics, no finish to speak of. Blackberries and some wood, thought it'd go great with my friend's ribs, though by the time we got around to this one, we'd polished off all the food and a bunch of other bottles besides. If there's more to be had, I recommend this as a great have-on-hand barbecue wine -- drinks a bit above its class.

This wine is huge and big in the larger-than-life Shiraz way of being. I found the alcohol wasn't fully contained, especially on the nose; but it could be worse, far worse. To give you an idea about this wine, picture this short and true story. I was on the living room couch typing this note. My wife walked in and sat next to me. She asked if I was wearing some kind of new coconut lotion, which I was not. (Though I certainly could use it.) It didn't take me long to realize the true source of the smell. Yes, she is pregnant and does have that ultra-sensory mutant sense of smell to go with, but this really does have that oak created aroma profile so common in wines of its ilk. On the palate, it shows some control with a medium plus body and loads of concentrated cassis, currant, and mouth drying (and tiring) cedar-oak suck. There's a malt-shake quality here, like a mix of melted chocolate and blackberry malt shakes that started to turn sour sitting lukewarm on the counter. Hard not to think of liqueur here, as there's certainly a quality of that. Some violet aspects that are nice. I expect this wine will go on being what it is for a while, but it will never transcend itself or grow beyond the fruit, oak, coconut, or sugar/malt shakes. It will just taper off slowly as one or more of those elements dissipate at a slightly faster rate than an other, leaving the juice largely unbalanced and ultimately a failure. But don't misunderstand me... this is wonderful for what it is -- perfect party wine for the kids. To me, it's a hangover in a bottle. Up there with the other options that ten dollars can buy, and it really was just 10 bucks on discount.

Friday Night Brown Bagger (Rich & Dana's): Offensive aromas of sour dill pickle and tomato juice; stewed; catsup. Tastes just as bad. Others tasters found some fruit in this wine and found it interesting, but I couldn't get past the stewed qualities. Could not begin to guess what this was.
Based on community notes this wasn't a representative bottle.

This wine sung today. Huge dark, ripe fruits on the nose and palate along with smoke, vanilla and cream from the oak. Tannins in check and the jammy, ripe fruit were the pefect counterpoint to smoky baby back riibs being served. Huge hit with everyone who tasted it.

Lotsa jammy fruits. Seriously extracted. Maybe it does need more time in the bottle. If not for the label I would have guessed this to be a zin, although the syrah meat makes a limited appearance. I don't like this type of synthetic cork either...

Decanted for an hour. Really dark purple color. A wonderful aroma of ripe dark fruit. Full body with an abundance of acid that overwhelms the fruit. Medium length on the finish. Maybe need to decant a little longer, or wait another 6-12 months to open the next bottle.

Dark purple color. Big, jammy black and blue fruit on the nose with a touch of smokiness. More of the same on the palate with some meaty, smoky notes and tons of ripe dark fruit and a touch of charred oak. Big mouthfeel and enjoyable finish but the alchohol was a little high on the back end. This was a perfect wiine to serve with grilled meats on the bbq.

Wow, what a huge California Syrah - just the style you expect from Rosenblum. It probably does not pair well with most meals, but packs a solid punch as an evening sipper.
A bold and distinctive bouquet that may not appeal to all (but I liked). Highly extracted and rich, dark fruits on the palette with a solid band of oak (but not excessive) through to the finish. What a bargain for $10 on clearance.

I've not tried many wines from Rosenblum, and I have to say I was impressed. This particular Syrah was very Aussie in style - by which I mean big, bold and fruity. Made with fruit from Solano County which, like Napa and Sonoma is part of the North Coast AVA, it comes from vineyards which side aside a hilltop 20 miles east of Napa Valley. Almost black in the glass I found intense savoury aromas on the nose - white pepper, spice and herbs. The palate showed extracted (but not over extracted) dark berry fruit, plums and grated dark chocolate.

Decanted for an hour. Nose was kind of funky with an herbal smell. First few sips were still a little weird, but quickly cleared up to reveal nice fruit. Alcohol was well integrated and nice tannins on the back end. Full bodied and unfiltered. This is a good wine. Need to decant for a couple of hours to get rid of wierdness. Definately for syrah lovers.

1st of 6 bottles opened. Decanted for 30 minutes in advance. A wonderfully unique bouquet, solid acidity, great finish. I recently got 6 bottles from klwines.com at a substantially reduced the price of $10. I suspect it was marked down because most people do not appreciate diversity in wine styles and tastes and this one just was not selling. All the better for those with an open mind.

I definitely stand by my previous note, but for God's sake *do not* pop and pour this wine. It's very funky and strange at first, but 60 minutes in a decanter resolves the herbaceousness and softens the heat and tannins. When it's ready, the wine is quite multifaceted with a medium body, good acidity, and a medium-plus finish. A little too challenging to be a cocktail wine, but it rises to the occasion at the table. It shines twice as bright when you demand a pairing of a deep red wine with good acidity (but probably not so much for red sauce).

it was a special at Whole Foods, like the previous note. $10.99.
On open, it was very hot with a very heavy mouth feel. But, as it opened, it mellowed into a very dense cherry, mocha, and chocolate. It went perfect with chili as it was strong enough to take on the spicy flavors. A food wine, for sure.

First night - yecch! Cherry cough syrup (which is pretty good when it comes to cough syrup, not so good when it comes to wine). Bought on a lark at Whole Foods since it was on sale for $10.99 and had good CT reviews - now happy I bought just one. On off chance it's better after sitting aside overnight, will hold off on rating until tomorrow.
Second day: no better. Not for me (or for any of the other 6 people who tried a bit at dinner the 2nd day)

Decanted for an hour for some vegetal aromas to blow off. Has a beautiful old-world floral and lavender nose. Dark fruit and chocolate on the palate with herbal and smoky undertones. Not a fruit bomb. Reminds me of the HdV Syrah which is twice the price and worth it, but also sometimes controversial. Very happy with this one.

Yummy! What a wonderful surprise. Big, bold dark berry nose with a hint of the spiciness to come...and spicy it is, just like a good Syrah should be. The synthetic cork surprised me. Popped and poured. Huge, jammy nose. Not much different in the mouth. Layers of vanilla, blueberry, oak, and alcohol. This is really made in the Aussie fruit bomb style. A bit of acid saves this from being too flabby, but this still is not very complex and seems a bit disjointed to me. If you want something in this style from California, I would go with the Kinton, which is about the same price. 87-88 points.

Notes from a 2 day opened bottle, maintained at 57 degrees: Intense fruit with lavender and, after it cools down, maybe chocolate cookies? Even after two nights in the cellar (one glass taken out of the bottle) it is still hot on top. I give it another 3-4 years. Not on the level of a Kick Syrah, but at half price (I think the special purchase price was about $17/bottle) this is a fantastic value. Still worth in the early $30 range, but less so. Lots of good syrah competition out there....
