Notes of blackberry, vanilla and cedar. This is a balanced wine. You can drink it now or wait if you enjoy tertiary notes. Tannins build as you drink. This is a well made wine.

Man, I thought the 2019 Cantemerle was "the best Cantemerle ever...." Until I tried the 2020 Cantemerle! The 2020 Cantemerle is gorgeous, much different styled from the 2019, richer with more upfront fruit. The 2019 is more classic and reserved. They are obviously at different stages of evolution. The 2020 is lush, aromatic, but still very true to its terroir. Like the 2019, it is 13.5% alcohol. Distinctive rich ruby/purple color, violets, I bought 12 more bottles of the 2019 Cantemerle and last night ordered 12 more bottles of the 2020 Cantemerle. I logged the 2019 in at 95 points, I rate this 2020 at 95+.

Fresh, uplifting, pure fruit, and a nice finish. Strong tannins and nice acidic balance make me think this will only get better with age. I don;t have the patience though here in Korea. It's either drink this now or have really bad wine elsewhere. This wine is a serious wine, and we thoroughly enjoyed it over beef, cheese, and salami dessert. Dark red, dense in the glass. Lovely nose of marzipan, cassis, spices, leather, and dark fruit. The palate is dense and relatively tight with a young impression. High acidity. Blackberry, coffee, hints of mint, and leather

Typical bouquet of varieties in place, partially masked by excessive oak treatment. Blackcurrant, pyrazines, and vanilla stand out.
Medium body. Juicy, mostly purple fruits and berries. Well rounded, quite polished, a little too much. There is substance to it...but not enough to stand up to the oak treatment...or to hold beyond fifteen or so years from vintage date. Generally reminiscent of many 2012 vintage offerings.
Technically excellent, yet somewhat disappointing. This house seems to have turned to the modern style...no bell ringer. Marginal improvement seems possible.

Informal tasting note: Well balanced with earthy notes that couple with dark fruits, pears, medium astringency, medium- acids. Some rust flavors and vanilla. Bold with a memorable finish. This wine introduces itself quickly and is sharp. Very mild and white-bread flavors.

Flowers, spice, black cherries, bitter chocolate, and a background note of espresso crowd into the nose. The wine is medium-bodied, vibrant, fresh and savory, with a core of sweet, ripe red fruits and touches of citrus and menthol that come in on the herbal-edged endnote. Drink from 2025-2043.

The 2020 vintage UGCB tasting in Amsterdam 03/06/2023 (Amsterdam): Not as super as La Lagune, but don't miss this wine! A nearly exotic bouquet, perfumed and combined with good fruit, concentration, juicy, very good bitters and give the tannins some time de soften; a really good and balanced wine.

Tasted at the UGC at the Drake Hotel in Chicago. With red over and black fruits, judicious oak, exceptional balance, and ample ripe tannins, this Cantemerle was a joy. You could drink this now it seemed. It seemed a bit more dense, concentrated, and silky than usual (probably because it was 13.5% ABV, whereas it’s usually only 13%). It had a beautiful nose. Really quite striking. 13.5% ABV. Great; distinguished/****

Lovely big nose of cedar and blackcurrant. Good fruit and typical Cantemerle balance. Very persistent finish. A more consistent Chateau over the last 50+ years than most (I still remember a lovely 1961 about 30 years ago) and good QPR.
Feines, vielschichtiges Bukett. Reife Waldbeeren. Etwas Tabak. Ein saftiger Cantemerle mit seidigen Tanninen und Margaux Eleganz. Bleibt lang und ausgewogen. Der Beste der letzten Jahre. 90-92

2026-2040 (April/Mai 2021)

Dark, juicy cherries, bitter chocolate, savory herbs and a touch of espresso start the wine off. Medium-bodied, bright and energetic, with a lot of lift in the red fruits on the palate, this will age and develop nicely. 92-94

Deep appearance Ripe nose of fat black and red fruits, quite compact, but attractive and shows some breadth. Some density, this is supple and plump at the core but has some ‘classic’ astringency too, a tiny sappiness. Very good freshness and persistence, finishes fine.

Medium intensity scents of red and dark cherries, red berries with some leafy elements, oak, and spice. Light to medium bodied with medium acidity and decent length.

Offering an attractive nose of tangy, juicy, ripe raspberry seeds, fat blackberry, and cassis, with a little roasted oak. The palate feels very fine, with a chalky mineral quality and supple ripe tannins; this has great lift and elegance without any leanness, and finishes long and cool.

Nose: Gravel, cherries, chocolate, mint, licorice, oak, earth, black currants, vanilla.
Palate: Full entry, soft dark fruit, some mushroom, wood. Soft tannins, aftertaste has roasted oak, black tea and leather.
Impressive balance, beautifully elegant acidity throughout.
