Nose: pineapple, coconut, brioche, chestnut, gasoline, steel Notes: feels a bit like a pina colada upon opening. With a bit of minerality this Champagne delivers a smooth palate. Despite quite some complexity I still don't get the magic of Savart and somehow I've identified gasoline in most of the Savarts I've tasted which is not preferential for me. This is a good Champagne but probably just not my glass of Champagne. Nevertheless I did not think it was a blanc de blanc without doing further research which is quite interesting. Painfully young for sure but I'm uncertainly if this is worth the wait or not. Drink: 2027+ Rating: 88

Bienvenue a Champagne; 4/20/2023-4/29/2023 (Les Crayeres, various restaurants, Les Avises and a many wonderful producers): Also off the list at Bellevue and drinking incredibly well and just getting better in the glass. We had a bit left over and so it was wine for another night and funnily enough this is a wine that likes that extra time and age. Very interesting and thought provoking champagne that is indeed more of a true ‘wine’. Pity we are not visiting this producer but he was traveling while we were in town. Would love to learn more about the wine.

Un champagne très sec, ample, un style austère et racé. Pas le plus charmeur en style, mais la longueur en bouche est exceptionnelle. Envoûtant. 93-94 pts

La Festa del Barolo: Rare Wine Dinner - Bartolo Mascarello (Legacy Records): From a magnum off the list at Legacy Records. Always nice to end an evening with bubbles. This is a favorite producer for me and not a wine that I see around quite as much but quite tasty. More in the herbal and while always more brut in style just slightly softer edges than the Agrapart.

Just delicious. Ended the meal with a champagne which is never the worst approach. It's racy and a bit spicy and evolving and layered and while we started it right with desserts it was finished fairly fast. Very enjoyable.

Festa del Piemonte: Master Class & Lunch (The Pool/Grill): A producer that I quite enjoy and a new vineyard for a fellow tablemate so we went this direction. No detailed notes. This was quite light and clearly racy and just a bit young next to the Selosse Lieux Dits we had drunk right before. It comes across as almost a bit of a baby. Needs more time I think to start to build out the body. That being said, if you let it warm some in the glass there's quite a nice complexity and interest there. A wine I will continue to look for.

Return to Napa; 3/6/2022-3/13/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants): First time with this wine and I am a big fan (as I’m generally a fan of all the Savart wines). We had dinner with some friends who are let’s say more wine neutral and they really enjoyed it. It’s crisp and fresh and in that fun grower with a bit racy and a lot of different flavors and almost more like a real wine with bubbles. Very enjoyable. Would def get it again.

The more I drink Savart, the more I come to the conlcusion that after the big guns like Agrapart, De Sousa and Egly, he is the producer who can best work with wood alongside Pouillon. I would never turn down a champagne from Emanuel Brochet, but my feeling is Savart is the better producer, someone who is constantly questioning what he is doing, constantly evolving. Savart's champagnes need time to open up. The Chretiens automatically impresses with its electric vivacity, the wood is there but not like Remy, Lahaye or dare I say it Ulysse Collin. Savart manages to pack everything into this champagne, the juicy lemon like aromatics one knows from Krug, sharp acidity that does not feel aggresive, tension, beautiful chalky minerality, Grand cru depth, tenderness but also power, a constantly evolving complexity.

Had with friends on NYE. First bottle of bubbles had with cheeses and meats. This was very intense with a ton of acidity that went really well with the food. Definately toast and BDB fruit that gets better with air. Was gone too soon to really track.

Knights of Alba (KOA) BYO Barbaresco Dinner (Legacy Records): Same magnum we got a few weeks ago and it is still a lovely and enjoyable wine. It’s lighter style. Not quite as racy as the Agrapart but more of that bright style. Drinks well.

Disgorged March 2021. So intense and pure for BdB, lots of power and complexity, some muted fruits which blossomed with air. 94
