  • Heater week; 3/8/2024-3/17/2024 (Chicago, IL): Very much a similar experience to the 2019. Darker, leathery, not over the top, but hardly a paragon of elegance and lift (despite the advertised viognier).

  • Less funk than the 2017 I had a while back, but still very savory and intense (what you’d expect from a Cayuse).

  • right away this gives off scents of blueberries, car polish and fresh herbs, refined, complex and expressive, fills the mouth with a sophisticated structure and flavorful palate including nuances of blueberry, raspberry, hoisin sauce, smoked meats and gravel, an experience each time, this is a vintage with less flamboyance than others but with the same flair that distinctly makes it stand out, can open now but no problem cruising in the cellar as well

  • Took to Nostrana (Portland). Opened but wasn't decanted. Let air get to it for about 45 minutes. Typical Cayuse funk but the wine softened a bit when poured and was balanced and delicious. This will get better but is very good right now.

  • Dark purple garnet. Initially had a note of barnyard which dissipated & eventually developed into full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of spice notes of pepper, floral & earthy/dusty notes, bacon notes, tea, mushrooms, herbs, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla notes. Full bodied with a very good concentration of balanced & semi-smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with spices, some bittersweet cocoa, herbs, mushrooms, minerals & oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well with decanting & extended airing, but will may benefit from much needed additional aging.

  • First Cayuse tasting! And man is it funky! Lighter color than the other syrahs we had this evening. Nose is leather, barnyard and raspberries! On the palate it's still very funky but in a good way. Red fruits, leather, a long finish and a beautiful evolution over the evening. This started at a 92 but got to 93+ at the end. Delicious!

  • Dark color with some bacon fat on the nose. Great depth of flavors for a young Syrah. Great job

  • Decanted 3 hours, and we drank it over another 3. It changed a lot during this time, but each time segment revealed pleasures. At first the wine was more vegetal and tea like; then sour cherry, raspberry, and leather came forward; finally some barnyard/manure and coffee notes joined in. The wine's finish didn't grab me as much as the other parts. This piece felt less harmonious than the rest. Maybe a little thin. Still, it's absolutely a beautiful wine.

  • Remarkably soft and round for such a young wine, but typical for Caayuse, whose syrahs are drinkable and enjoyable when they arrive! Just a relatively straightforward, medium-bodied wine, good for short-term drinking. Not one of their best efforts.

  • Nose is sour leather. First sip, smooth, as in no acid or tannin to deal with.
Heavier than a Burg but not by much. So inviting, slides easily into panty remover category.
So young but going down so easy, this bottle won't last the night.
    easy 97pts
