David’s 1999 Cote de Nuits (Lorne, London): A slightly sweaty nose opening to a rounder, more honeyed affair. Broad and a little cheesy on the finish. Foresquare but with some interest. ***

Definitely an unusual wine (and a first for me). Great texture, glycerol quality, not a lot of fruit, but still fresh. Faded pretty quickly after about 30 min of air. Would be curious to try younger bottles to see if this shows more. (NB: We had to open 3-4 bottles before we found one that was not premoxed.)

Confrerie Chapitre De Vigne En Fleur (The French Table Bistro - Vancouver, BC): Quite tight on the nose at first showing a restrained expression of damp must and soft pinot fruit, along with a touch of earth and spice. Ripe oxidized pear comes through on the palate, along with some red apple skins, ripe strawberries, caramel, soft cherry pinot fruit, and a nice kick of spice towards the back end of the palate. With time the nose explodes with soft butterscotch but not in an oxidized way. This is an interesting expression of pinot, but it seems to be getting towards the end of its life. Drink up. Good+

David's 1999 Côtes de Nuits 1er Cru, Village by Village Horizontal (Lorne Restaurant, London): A pinot blanc derivation and very enjoyable, this starts with a buttery shortbread and strawberry character. Something floral too, lilies? Peppery, broad palate. Real minerality too.

Great acidity, still showing some red fruit, long finish with mineral, integrated oak. Not at improving stage any longer, but nice.

Disppointing, not a lot to it. Had a hard edge. Currently shut down?
