From 375 recently purchased as part of an auction mixed lot. As expected, getting tired but still showing more than lingering fruit. I wasn't thrilled with this wine when younger/ fresher, but it's still holding in there.

Brick red with perhaps a hint of amber. The wine has matured into a balanced, lovely Pinot Noir with a strikingly plush, soft palate that seems almost silky. The nose here is a bit muted but I’m finding cranberry, wax and hints of spice cake. Tart, with a long and very mineral dominated finish. A bit hot, which makes sense: the wine clocks in at 14.5%. But it isn’t at all jammy or sloppy and holds the alcohol pretty well.

Dark red, slight fade at rim. Black cherries and vanilla on the nose. Black cherry, plum and raspberry flavours are delivered on a full body frame. The style is quite extracted, more like a CA Central Coast Pinot than Oregon. Almost Syrah-like but balanced with enough acidity to keep it in bounds. Spice and pepper notes on the finish. We liked it but can see others thinking it was too much. www.advinetures.ca

Dark garnet, almost black in center, ruby red at edge. Thick legs. Nose of plum with vanilla and fresh cut wood. Full bodied, well structured, soft mouthfeel. Notes of dark berry, leather and licorice. Medium to long finish. Worth it even at $47 a bottle.

Soft as velvet, at age nine this wine has developed a satiny texture and lovely aromatic. Very dark for an Oregon PN, the nose is dominated by cherry and hints of cola just starting to transform into spice. Intensely flavored with ripe fruit and significant acidity, but softened by these downy tannins, and no longer bitter on the finish, which (5 years ago) troubled me... Happily time has brought this bottle out of its shell. Drink up!

Initially, tighter than, well, a drum (I was going to get more colorful, but...). After a bit of time (45 minutes), this really opened up: earth, eucalyptus and allspice on the nose. Muted red fruit and that spice on the palate, with a lingering finish. A bit brutish initially, but worth the wait. Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

Opened for Thanksgiving, bottle started out bright but quickly turned to the dark red and black fruits. Light tannin and acids overall, but the bottle is 6 years old. True to form, the wine evolves the ENTIRE time you're drinking it, but it does sort of add to the interest of this particular producer & varietal. Big alcohol helped this over and I'm glad we held on to it until now.

Dried rose/raspberry/cherry nose leading into a medium density midpalate of savory fruit and resolved tannins. Not as fresh or focused as it once was (it is an '06 afterall w/a 14+alcohol) but took on some weight after an hour.

- Crimsom color and aromas of cherry, violet and mushroom and has flavours of cherry and mushroom - By far the best bottle of these that I've had. Perhaps one needs to wait 6 years? 2006 Oregon Pinot Noir Retrospective (Lou's): Stupid/heavy bottle. Why does wine like this need to be in a bottle that even empty feels full? Anyway, the nose is earthy with green tobacco, sage and some cherries. Nice texture. Slightly bitter cherries. Tannic. Not sure where this goes from here. I would drink sooner with a bit of a decant as the fruit seems thin.

First bottle out of the 6-pack, and I am not sure what to make of this. Flavor profile very unusual. Cola dominates, along with black fruits. Acidity starts fine, nice mouthfeel, and then something kicks in which I think is the alcohol. The finish is somewhat long, but not nice. Wonder what will happen with time. I expected more. Still have 6-pack of the 06 Dussin....wonder what that is going to do???

A really nice wine, but I just don't want to think this much when I'm drinking PN. This is a wine that makes me think I might not know as much as I think about wine. Complex, but on the outer edge of life. I think.

22 months after last note. Light cranberry color with light tan edges. Sour cherries and cranberries with a green vegetable element that was not present in 2007. Still a bit on the tart side, some spice, but dominated by the sour cherry and cranberry. A bit more organized than before, hence the slight improvement.

Medium ruby. Sour cherries and cranberries on the nose, hint of red bell pepper, spice hiding under the rather young fruit aromas. Sweet but with a complicating flavor of brioche and a very slight bitterness. Very nice success for Penner Ash and will improve with a few more years in the bottle. Slightly marred by a midpalate note that seems a bit out of whack to me -- hard to pin it down -- perhaps a hint of madierization? Anyhow, this dischordent element detracts from the finish and caused me to notch the wine down from 90pts to 89.

Classic Pinot aromatics, but strong presence of alcohol and charred wood on both the nose and palette push it right into New World territory. A bit of a cherry/berry fruit bomb, with too much caramelized oak. A slight green/herbal edge actually adds a bit of complexity to what otherwise would be very one dimensional.

Drank next to a 06 Sea Smoke Botella. The Penner Ash was similar in profle to its Cali counterpart, but was much more extracted. Glad we drank the Sea Smoke first and the Penner Ash second. I do enjoy this style of Pinot if done right and Lynn Penner Ash does it right. Lovely winne.

Bright ruby red and translucent in the glass. Strawberry, violets, cola and candied walnuts on the nose. Silky texture with notes of strawberry, cherry vanilla Coke and hints of toasty oak. The length is plenty, but the finish is a touch harsh. This is drinking better that it was six months ago, but may be better still in another 6-12 months.

A day tasting in the Willamette Valley with the usual suspects (Oregon): Nice rich red fruit on the nose. The palate is more of the same, more rich red fruit, some heat does pick up in the finish but isn't destructive to the flavors like some 06's can be. Nice acidity but very light on tannin. I really liked the flavor and feel of the fruit here. I typically like 06's and this one was decent.

Lucien Le Moine at Scott Paul, and other WV because we're there (Carlton, OR): Red gummy bears on the nose. Some nice berries and hay, and fairly pleasing nose. Surprisingly, much larger than the nose would suggest, showing big dark fruit extract and not much balance. Tons of fruit on the finish.. this is where Pinot Noirs might as well be Syrah. This tricked me on the nose, which was quite pleasing and soft, but didn't follow through on the finish. 2006 strikes again!

Ordered with the Lau's at Imperial Sushi downtown Austin. I really liked this wine. It was a perfect complement to the sushi and fish and beef main courses. Complex and good fruit. Savored every sip. It didn't really change that much over the 2 hours we sat through dinner. Silky tannins but shows some alcohol.

Brought to the Stackner Theatre with friends. Love this wine. Such well made pinot. I was disappointed to hear from a friend that he was not treated well at the winery. Apparantly it was very "snobby" which is my least favorite atribute of wine people. It's grape juice that I pay $50 for. Get over yourself.

14.5% alc and it shows. Rich and jammy, over extracted nose and midpalate. Some tannins present but heat is persistant from the nose to the finish. Spice present throughout as well. I prefer the 05 better.

Developing nicely. Although the Zweigelt that was in my glass may be overpowering it. This seems a little touch flat. But I should check back at another time. Ok, never mind. It is just opening up. Massive fruit. Good body and delicious. Wonderful (and easy) to drink now.

Almost violet color. Very brilliant and clear. Initially the nose was pretty muted but it came around to spice and vanilla. The red and black fruit definitely played a support, not lead, role. The vapor notes made sense when I saw the 14.5% abv. Pretty hot for Pinot. Somehow it remains balanced, for the most part. There is a lot of booze here. Nose has just a touch of earthiness. I think this would stand out as OR in a blind tasting. On the palate it is very silky and a touch creamy. Vanilla and spice carry over but the fruit s more pronounced on the palate. What I notice most is the full, rich mid-palate. The high alcohol concerns are apparent on the palate. Smooth tannins and nice acidity. Good finish, lingers pleasantly. This is a really well made wine. But the alcohol is overdone and knocks it out of balance for me. We'll see how it ages. Goes well late at night with Richard Thompson and a ham sandwich.

overall great purity and cleanliness, a translucent ruby-red, develops a nose of fresh woods and ripe red berries, a balanced acidity makes it a match with many lighter foods, flavors of smoke, strawberries, and crushed raspberry, followed with hints of mineral, a wine I would lay down for a little while longer, as it has potential to develop.

Riper than I expected from the Willamette, with rose, meat, grenadine, and caramel overtones. Good balance, if just slightly hot. Reminds me a bit of the more recent, slightly candied Kosta Browne RRVs -- big, overt, and tasty, but not really elegant. Like KB, though, it's definitely a producer worth revisiting, by any measure.

2006 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley: Popped and then poured. Dark ruby color. Heavy medium bodied wine. On the nose there is candied strawberry and some funk. On the palate there overripe raspberry, very ripe cherry, some oak and a little toasted spice on the tail. Okay finish, but little acid. Kind of disjointed, but that is probably because it was just opened. 87 (in March it showed much better 90+)

SMELL: Hints of chocolate and cola on the nose. Almost had a shiraz-like mix of aromas. Closely associated with the pepperiness of a shiraz, but suspect it was the cola aromas that had a similar effect on the nose. TASTE: Bottle was decanted for four hours and drank very smoothly. Decanting helped soften the tannis and the wine held a very nice and pleasant finish. Jessica isn't much of a red wine drinker and loved the wine. One of Erin's favorites as well. Great with meat, but could easily drink alone as well.

Tasting at Penner-ash tasting room. Light ruby-garnet color. Red fruit aroma. Spicy red fruit on the palate, crisp with tight tannins. A bit too tight for my tastes, but may open up with additional decanting or cellaring.

Shows good Pinot fruit but also quite a bit of oak comes through. The question to us was which was better -- Bergstrom or Penner Ash. No conclusions however the Penner Ash is bigger and heavier while the Bergstrom is more complex, refined. But the bottle was just opened. 30 minutes in the feeling is that there is a core of silkiness showing through and it is just now opening. 2 hours : now shows lots of toasty oak on the nose. Even more than before which is a bit hard to believe. Certainly not unplesant though... a seemless Pinot fruit underneath. Certainly an impressive style and I would have to believe worth of big press points. But back to the Bergstrom for me.

Ecanted 2 hr’s. and needed more. Bold, pungent nose of blackberry, raspberry, damp earth and vanilla. Soft attack but a huge presence on the palate with rich blackberry, plum, raspberry and tar flavors clamoring to get in front of the infusion of vanilla and anise spice. Prominent tannins and a big, but slightly hot finish match the rest of the wine. Spritzy quality took a while to blow off. Significant oak presence, this could be cellared for years, but recommend letting sit for another year or 2 to let the spritz subside and then drink young after a lengthy decant.

First, obviously way too young, but wanted to taste the first of a six pack to get a baseline. First time ever that I have really, instantly, tasted cherry cola. Very prevalent, but not too candied. Nose was nice, but a little muted. Very good potential, and the score is for that. When this integrates and settles down, this should be a very good, new world pinot.

The bottle was really nice and light. Classic Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley. My wife really liked it. We made the mistake though of having it with really spicy food. The wine doesn't go with spicy chicken :-). It paired really well with a 4-year old gouda cheese. We had berries on the nose, some plum. Wasn't acidic at all. Not sure if it is worth $50+ a bottle though. For a similar price, I would much prefer the Turley zinfandel.

Needs about an hour to open up and loose just a little spritz. Once it does it shows rich velvet fruit with a touch of earthy funk thrown in to make it interesting. These 2006s from Oregon sure are good young.

Clear, medium-light ruby red. Wonderful, generous, perfumed nose of sweet cherry, licorice, root beer, star anise. Nice body, with the 14.5% alcohol perfectly balanced. Lush, elegant, and delicious. Very light ruby color. The nose had delicate raspberry and cherry aromas along with some spice and heat. The palate had plum, raspberry and oaky flavors. This was a light to medium bodied wine that had a nice length finish, but there was some heat at the end as well. It was a nice wine, but not really the style of Pinot that I enjoy.

nose: pretty tight. getting a small bit of earth, cherry, blueberry, and a slight bit of plum. I'm also smelling the alcohol on this too with the fruit
taste: nice mouth. Easy drinking and elegant. Cherry and plum are the main notes with a slight bit of earth and chocolate on the finish.
overall: the taste is a ton better then the nose. Very nice mouth feel on this and it leaves a real nice lasting finish. Some of the heat that I was smelling doesn't exist on the mouth. The mouth is a ton more complex then the nose and is very pleasureable to drink. The lack of a nose though is a problem, and is what prevents this from really being a excellent wine. Very good, but not great

Not as elegant as previous bottles of this vintage. Fruit could be fading a bit. Structure is still there, just a little more terroir than fruit.

Lovely dark cherry flavors show up on the palate along with some nice acid and tobacco. The heat makes a brief appearance as well.

For a similar price, I would much prefer the Turley zinfandel.

overall: the taste is a ton better then the nose.
