Super meaty nose screamed gevrey more than than vosne but the dark fruit profile then steered me to richebourg. Cool, reserved, elegant fruit profile. Perfect grip/structure without being in any way offputting. Authoritative and really superb.

1998 Burgundy horizontal (Noize): Much sweeter on the nose than its dry, savoury flight-mates. Really dense on the palate (as I'd expect from Richebourg), with intense blueberry fruit and a mineral feel. Somehow also fleet-footed and elegant despite its potency - very fine.

Again, dark colour almost to the rim. Supple mouthfeel. Very dark fruited and super spicy. Intense, savoury, hints of leather. Persistently spicy on the long finish.

1998 Burgundy (Noizé, London): Even more lustrous, bright ruby. More evolved on the nose, quite meaty with a touch of decay. Nicely evolved, autumnal and a touch of meat. Chalky tannins. A weight that keeps it grounded, and a savoury edge. Nicely evolved but a touch loose and tending to the flabby with air. ****

Opened on a whim to accompany some bbqd steak. My last bottle was like chewing newly sawn timber so I didn’t think too much about popping this. What a difference some cellar time has wrought. Regal, authoritative, seductive and yet reserved/aloof at the same time. Still some vanilla/cedar on the nose and palate initially but this is just so good. My first words on sniffing and tasting were “Holy f*****g sh*t!”. A gorgeous melange of red and black fruit with years ahead of it but absolutely rippling with muscle and energy in its prime.

The dinner with Jeannie Cho Lee (Taberna del Alabardero, Washington D.C.): The last bottle drank in 2015 was correct but uninspiring. Nicely mature nose displaying subtle red and black fruits, raspberry, blackberry jam, cherry, noticeable sous bois, a hint of Vosne spice, sweet spices and mineral. Medium concentration, silky and polished, bright acidity, slightly coarse tannins and a medium to long vosne spice and blackberry driven finish. Typical of the vintage, it is slightly hollow in the middle and the tannins are a bit coarse. Nevertheless, perfectly mature Burgundy nose makes this very enjoyable.

OK, it's certainly not the best Riche you'll ever have, but the price reflects that (at $200-250/bt). It's a solid Vosne GC and I'd take this over a lot of Ech

Pale colour : pink/light crimson. Nose more open than last bottle 2 years ago. Now rich and interesting with black and red fruits, strawberry and rose with Asian spice, dark chocolate and liquorice that develop and change in the glass. Not as intense on the palate but the interest and complexity continue with a very fine and balanced finish. This wine has matured into something subtly special now !

At Bistro Jeanty in Yountville, Jay brought this one
Color was a brick red, lighter. Was open for about 90 minutes by the time I had some. Nose was red fruit, herbs, bacon fat. Palate was delicate with red berries, earth, truffle. Incredibly smooth mouthfeel. Medium/light body and medium finish. Excellent wine, drank beautifully and stood out on a night that had some very big wines

colour garnet-red changing to brick-red at the edge, decanted for two hours, in the nose some red berries, herbs, on the palate really smooth, light- to midweight body..........., expected more, for a Grand Cru too light, showing some fruity and herbal aromas, long and elegant finish, hmm.... an ambivalent impression, not worth the money you have to pay for this Richebourg, still two bottles left so hopefully......

Recommended by the sommelier at Craft and he really came through with this one. Just a fantastic bottle of wine that is everything you expect from a Grand Cru Burgundy. Earthy, smoky, light fruit and pure velvet on the finish. A stunner and my WOTN on a night that featured some incredible wine.

Dry, oaky mess. Hopefully just a bad bottle!

Burgundy dinner (The Grill Room at Capella Hotel Georgetown): Not quite sure what happened here. The wine seems correct but the fruit is dry, plum and rustic. Very rustic palate as well. Good concentration. It seems correct.

Slightly corked but it was still apparent that there's an excellent(though still quite young) wine underneath.
