Drank over three nights, by accident. Night one it was still really coiled, almost as if it was a young Barolo! Hours in it got better and better, but it had already been a big night and we saved half a bottle for Day Two, when it shone. Honestly it's still good on Day Three, but it's beginning to slide. This bottle serves as evidence that it has lots of life in it yet, and that the '99 vintage was (is) underrated.

Surprisingly delicious. Completely agree with Hrazdiiv's note. Drink now or hold for a bit. Very glad to have one more bottle to enjoy after another year or three.

Given there is only one review in since 2012, I am happy to say this bottle is still drinking very well with telltale signs it still has a decent aging trajectory. Color was still nice and dark with little bricking; I'd mistake it for a 5-7 year old wine. Nose was a nice blend of cedar, tar, with a hint of licorice, all well supported by some higher than average tannins. What prevented a better score was the creeping in of some acidity a little later on, a consistent sign with this traditional producer in my experience. Fortunately, the nicely blended fruit and earth elements have enough here to keep this going. I'd say a well stored bottle will still drink well for at least 5 and possibly 10 more years.

No formal notes as I opened this in a restaurant but consistent w/ my last note - a great barolo drinking well now. Will try my last one w/ 20yrs on it..

Slight musty/corky overtones led to a lower score. Midpalate a bit one dimensional but still had a nice tannin/acidic finish. This bottle was past its prime

Little/no bricking - lovely ruby color. Yielding and drinking perfectly after an hour open in the bottle and a few hours in the decanter. Classic Nebiolo nose - rose, tar - hint of raspberry, mint - really nice. tannins are in a good place and the wine dances in your mouth. Outstanding Barolo which is drinking perfectly now.

Decanted and poured, this showed well with excellent balance and definition on the bouquet and palate; however, this never developed the complexity to give a compelling showing. This is at or around its peak.

Although I've enjoyed aged Vietti before, this seemed to be past its prime for my taste. Bricking on the edges; faint aromas of rose petal, tar, & sour cherry; slightly acidic cherry-infused palate that has lost most of its tannic backbone, but which has transformed into a slightly harsh finish. I think I might have preferred this 1-3 years earlier, but I like my nebbiolo on the younger side.

Opened and left alone for four hours. Decanted about thirty minutes prior to pouring. This wine showed well and is at or around it peak. The bouquet shows maturity with some youthfulness remaining. The aromatics include strawberry, cherry, tar, floral and spice notes. The color is a tarnished brick to medium ruby. The medium bodied palate shows good balance and tannin integration. The medium length finish combines maturing fruit character, tannins and acidity. This drinks well now and is most likely at or around its peak. It should continue to drink well for the next 3 to 5 years. This was tasted side by side with the 2001 Vietti Barolo Castiglione, which received the identical pre-service treatment.

Drinking very well right now, complexity in the nose with lovely soft fruits, tannins loosing up but still firm backbone and long, chewy finish. Floral, vanilla nose.

A nice Barolo that I let age for 4 years...and it could last for several more. Complex, yet well balanced with big tannins. A solid wine. Medium bodied. Its color is lighter in hue than most reds. This goes quite well with steak.

Didn't take a formal note on this but it's showing really well right now. Firm tannins that are starting to integrate, really nice balance and wonderfully complex. Drink now or hold for another 5 to 10 years.

A brick red color, with long legs, grippy tannins, mouth-watering acidity, and a rosewater essence from start to finish. Quality-wise, it's about what you'd expect from a $40 Barolo. It's definitely a food wine; but, then again, aren't all Italian wines food wines?

Fuldt developed, a great mature commune Barolo. Classic but also ready to go.

Just incredibly acidic without the fruit to support that backbone.

Nice wine that took a few hours to open up. Very earthy, with lots of minerality and soft red fruits.
