Italian night; 3/21/2021-3/22/2021: Still rather austere and young. An elegant and feminine (for the lack of a better word) expression of Sangiovese, balanced by some savoury notes and a good backbone of acidity. Only quibble was a slightly hot finish. Liked this but was overshadowed by the first two wines for me.

I got exactly the same flavors when I opened the bottle as the previous reviewer (BH) but I let it decant for about 3 hours and it turned into an elixir. Dried fruits and floral notes intermingling with a sweeter toned finish that seemed to go on forever. We blind tasted 9 wines and it is really difficult sometimes to remember much about the wines but this one was a clear winner of the night!

Very meaty aromas on the nose, the mouth is very supple with a beautiful substance on gamey flavors. The balance is good, the acidity enhances the finish which remains intense for lack of length.
Fine

Mouth - mellow aged red fruit, lovely licorice flavor on the back end. Nice structural tannins. Yummy wine. Drinking nicely. Can live for a while but no reason not to drink up now.

So, I'm very disappointingly have the same experience as everyone else. 2 hour slow-ox prior to a decant and poured to taste. Very brick colour, almost to the point of tawny. Cork was fine; initial smell was promising, but the first taste revealed either a wine well past it's prime, or a very poorly stored bottle. The latter could very easily be the correct answer, as I bought this a year ago from a retailer, and having had older vintages of this wine in the past, I just can't believe the former is true. Slightly oxidized-portly nose, along with some wooden notes and some red fruit in there somewhere. In the mouth, the nice acidity is the only thing holding it up at all. Most everything else is lost completely. This could have started out as cheap Chianti, for all I can tell :(

This wine was slow-oxed for 6 hours. Ruby/amber color. Aromas of bright cherry, cedar and dried herbs. Full bodied with integrated tannins and bright acidity. The finish is very long. A nice wine, but not anywhere near some of the other '99 Brunelli I had recently. This one seems to be much further down the road in its development. I actually think it is past peak already and it gave the impression of a 25+ year BdM. It came from a small enoteca in Tuscany, I wasn't able to check the provenace. Perhaps it was just stored at a too high temperature.

Dimitri's going away Dinner, Mostly blind (Dimi's House, London): Bottle # 28420. Good levels and cork. Decanted fro 30mins. Colours shows the age, actually looks a lot older than 99. Elegant delicate, fruit nose which finishes in full secondary notes, earthy. On the palate it feels mature and with lovely sweet core running through. A touch on the mild side but a beautiful wine nonetheless. 92 drinks very well now.

Great Brunello with fantastic structure. Full bodied and balanced with cherry, strawberry notes. Opened for 3 hrs and then consumed over 4hrs. By the end it smooths out completely and is luscious. Drink now.

WOW!!! this is how Brunello is supose to be - If people expect a big and powerfull type of Brunello then this is not your wine - this one is beautiful and smooth in perfectl balance, whit a feminin and complex body. Had it opened in the bottel with the top out for 3 hours and that made i open op fully!!!

Popped one hour before pouring. The cork was half way stained but intact.Nose was initially mute but developed later some sous-bois and little fruit.Very light on the palate, showing discreet dark fruit and funky notes.Pretty good acidity with mellowing tannins but overall a little flat and dull.A pleasant quaffer but to the price of 118 € you would certainly expect more than this.Drink rather than hold.

Fairly pale colour, good touch of orange to the rim. Nice expressive nose, smokey first with cherries and roasted spice. Good sappy, quite elegant palate. Good juicy cherry fruit. Finishes slightly agressive and a touch green. Good overall package but still young. (@DFWE)

Very interesting Brunello. On the nose, this wine shows notes of aged cheese, red cherry, smoke, and cured ham and/or bacon. At this point, this wine is very restrained and austere. However, there’s plenty of structure, supported by tannins and high acidity. Perhaps this will turn into something interesting, but it certainly needs 10 more years of age before it amounts to whatever it’s going to amount to. Drink after 2015. 90+

Amazing -- perfectly aged and after 2 hours of decanting was exactly what you expect in a classic style Brunello.
