Acquired via AUCTION. Clear wine with red/rust opaque core and definite bricking at the rim. Nose is somewhere between healthy and oxidized. Mostly picking up floral notes and other secondary characteristics. Dry wine with some acidity left, but very little fruit. One note and not much character left. Past peak.

Showing a little more age than previous bottles. Cork fully saturated, removed with Durand. Garnet with slight orange showing on the rim. Notes of red fruit, leather, mushrooms and with a slight prune tartness. Settled down with some time in the glass. Definitely an aged Bordeaux and perhaps time to drink up.

Soft and fully mature, I think this would be easy to identify as aged Bordeaux. Lots of red fruits still with earth, dust, and mushrooms showing. Fully resolved tannins, medium bodied, this bottle didn't seem as over the hill as previous tasters experienced. Dry solid cork that came out in one piece.

Not familiar with this producer, quite pleased with tonight's performance. Dark color, minimal bricking. Plum and prune, balanced wine with a round finish. If I found bottles with good provenance at a fair price, I'd be a buyer.

A terminer d'urgence. Ce vin était à son apogée il y a une douzaine d'années et, à ce moment-là, il valait 92-93 pts, il montrait de l'élégance et de la finesse, presque bourguignon. La bouteille bue hier, je l'ai malheureusement oubliée dans ma cave...

This was lovely. Lots of red fruits, savory, it's in that wild berry world. In fact, this is like walking along the forest among a patch of wild berries. Very pretty. Medium bodied.

Like a classy old gentlemen at his deathbed, this is dying but with grace. The cork came out full but it was drenched in wine. There was some funk on the nose that went away in approximately 30 minutes. The palate is developed, there is quite a bit of grip but the fruit is fading. Zero overipeness or raisiness. This is almost savory. And, right in between all that, it screams Saint Emilion. A ton of sense of place, even in its last legs.

Cork was pretty soggy, but came out in one piece. Pop and pour and followed for a few hours. This bottle seemed to improve after a few hours of air. Dried cherries, shiitake mushroom, earth, African violet, and blackberry on the nose. Tart cherry, dried cherry, earth, and mushroom on the palate. Tart acidity, still pretty puckery tannins, decent finish. This bottle seemed a bit over the hill, but it was still enjoyable.

Caught this a bit past the top of the curve. Still had a good deal going for it, the fruit is there but beginning the decline. Live nose on the pop and pour, but the overall profile was fairly astringent. At hour 2 it blossomed. Notes of licorice stand out. Medium long finish.

La Commanderie de Bordeaux à Vancouver - Chateau L’Arrosee (Chambar): Similar on the nose to the 89 but here there is a bit more stuffing and definitely got better in the glass. A softer and rounder on both the nose and palate compared to the 89 but definitely shows similar breeding. Like the 98, this seems like the most complete wine of the flight and will make older bones than the 89 (which is the opposite of what I usually find when comparing 89/90). Drink or hold. Excellent.

Nose of cigarbox, leather and a fresh garden of mint and petunia. Very subtle, light flavors of a fully mature Bordeaux. Still ample fruit to balance out the fading tannins. Secondary nose of blue cheese.Very earthy flavors with smooth finish. Served with roast beef, but at this stage, would work with lighter dishes, such as roast chicken. Light brick red color.

Violets and cherries. Soft, fully mature tannins. Enjoyable, but definitely no longer on an upward trajectory in the bottle. Kind of like talking with your favorite uncle, who is starting to slip from old age. Drink it now.

Enjoyable but showing its age. Pale garnet color, with slightly browning rim. Black cherry and violets on the nose. Fully integrated and soft on the palate with medium acidity and an ephemeral, almost wispy finish. On the gradual down slope. Don't let this sit around too long.

Wine Education Service - St Émilion: Quite dense, significant age. A subtle reserved nose. A sweet attack with substantial tannin, spicy molasses in the mid palate, long finish.

Bigger than expected - lovely dark nose of leaves, violets and cherries. Only the slightest browning on rim, still quite dark.On palette the aromas of beef, truffles and sweet cherries carry into cedar and good long sweet finish. good to go now, but I think it has at least 10+ years left

3 Vintages of Chateau L'Arrosee (Walnut Creek, Ca.): Nose of red cherry, red berry, dry earth, and allspice, same on the palate, medium/big body, tasty, touch simple considering the vintage, at peak, medium/long finish. My #2 today.
