  • Mugneret-Gibourg (Clos Vougeot and Lutenières) (Tøyen, Oslo): Double decanted 3 hours before dinner

The nose had blueberries, slightly balsamic strawberry and some oak infused spiciness.

The palate is just fantastic, so incredible concentration, playful structure with juicy strawberry on top.

As with the Vougeot 2020, this became even better after 24-48 hours, should become even more fun with more bottle age.

  • As always, simply amazing. Intensity of fruit combined with elegance and grace.

  • Again, this was fantastic upon opening, though quickly went in to a tunnel. It takes a good 3 hours in open decanter to bring it in balance, but when it gets there, it exudes class with glossy red berries, cool vanilla and Vosne spices.
Extremely satisfying mouthfeel, large scale for a Burgundy, though for my taste, never heavy.

    Drink (decant) or hold

  • Really needed some air to wake up. Was rather concentrated and felt a tad heavy-handed at first. Darker fruit. Nose is primary, but pinot, for sure. After about an hour its more elegant, and intense without much weight. Bourgogne, yes, drinks like village or above, and really could stand some time for my palate.

  • Coarse wine, very concentrated. Not the typical generic burgundy I am used to. Dark fruits, violets, blueberries. Quite tannic and the oak is very present. If you can, wait a few years for it to ingest its oak.

  • Decanted 3 hours prior to serving

This remains one of my favourite wines for current drinking. What I would add now, is that -this bottle, at least - had put on some weight, the concentration on the palate was even greater than previous bottles. However, nowhere near heavy, just that MG intensity without weigth, I am completely in love..

94+ now, perhaps even greater potential than I previously thought

  • Consistent with last note, essential with 3 hours decant. Absolutely sensational when it is firing on all cylinders, drinking like a 1er cru from a very good producer.
Day two reveals more spices like cinnamon and cardamom, this should age very well for many years.

  • Such a nice village punching way above its weight. Very aromatic on the nose, bright red fruits and cherries. The palate is bright, balanced acids, some oak (vanilla) but overall enjoyable. Contrary to previous tasters, I preferred the start of the bottle, which was very fragrant, full of energy. Modern in style but very pure. If the village is at this level, i am curious to try their “higher” cuvées! Bought at Le Soufflot restaurant in Meursaut at 70 euros and that was well worth it!

  • Oh yes!

Very reminicent of 19. Fantastic nose upon opening with deep savoury herbs and black cherries. After 10 minutes it showed quite reductive.
After an hour or so, it became very fleshy and felt somewhat warm, almost oxidative, though still lovely. Forest floor, very ripe cherries, dried rosemary.

After some 2.5 hours, the fat melted, rendering the wine super clean, elegant with an abundance of airy red berries, primarily raspberries. A cool influence from vanilla, cinnamon and white pepper.

The mouthfeel is so silky, lovely breadth without weight and a finish that defies logic. The tannins are almost entirely integrated, though this should age with grace.

I regret not waiting 3 hours before drinking it, the last sips of the night were just glorious, but sadly the bottle was empty.

The empty bottle smells absolutely delicious the next day, this wine is going to go the distance, no doubt.

Scary good, the sisters are borderline magicians.

  • First off, you must give this a lot of air in an effort to bring the oak into balance. I gave it a 3hr slow ox in 2 Riedel Burgs & open btl prior to dinner. That helped but 4-5hrs might have been best? About 4-1/2 hours along the oak was pretty much off the table. Putting the oak aside, this is another amazing Bourgogne from MG that drinks well above its humble designation. There is; depth, intensity, class & concentration here that you pretty much never find at this level unless you're drinking; Leroy, DRC & wines at that lofty level. Drinks like most producers 1er. I love the deep dark raspberry, spice & mineral of this wine in its youth. Superb... with lots & lots of air to integrate the oak. 92+ Delighted to own a few more! 14.1% alc. Best served in the high 50s / low low 60s.

  • Tuesday Burgundy Cellar Visits - Mugneret-Gibourg, Dujac, Château de la Tour, and Fourrier (Cote d'Or): Barrel tasting at the domaine, with Marie-Christine creating an assemblage from several barrels. Lush black and red cherry, clearly ripe but complete and harmonious with good+ structure for its level. Great for its level, 88-89 point potential.
