  • I love, love, love the acid in this wine. It has a floral almost rose-like nose with a fantastically peppery mid-palette, and a finish that goes on and on and on. Can’t wait to pair it with Galician stew tonight.

  • Definitely a richer Pinot, though not a rich Cali style either. Cherry/raspberry fruit with vanilla, earth, smoke, and a bit of minerality. Has a creamy mouthfeel, but pretty bracing acidity. Definitely a bit too young, needs at least a couple (or better 3-5) more years to come together.

  • The 2019 impressed me but this didn’t meet the same bar. The 2020 has more Ridge characteristics to it, but not much of what wows me in a Pinot Noir. While most Ridge wines are reliable from vintage to vintage, this seems to be on a rollercoaster while they’re hunting for an identity for this wine.

  • As with all Ridge wines, impeccable balance. More Volnay than California. Decanted for 2 hours. Tart cherry, medium body, medium plus acidity. Needs some time to integrate, back label notes that only 9% new oak was used. 13.9 ABV. If you are looking for a voluptuous RRV style, this is not for you, but if you like finesse, restraint, and pure expression of fruit, this delivers. Would definitely purchase again.

  • A little too young yet, but loads of primary fruit balanced by nice acidity level. A good value.

  • Maybe biased, more of a Ridge Zin than a Pinot. Jammy strawberries and decent tannins.

  • This was inoffensive, but in a world where literally any other Ridge wine exists, why would you drink this (and why would they make this)? To paraphrase Jurassic Park, it seems like the winemaker was “so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.”

  • This is the third year of the Corralitos Pinot Noir, and it has been an interesting rollercoaster ride following this wine.

Tasted from a PnP. Nose is rather generic Pinot Noir like and lacks that impression of American oak the other two vintages had. Upon looking at the tech sheet, this got a lot less oak at 9 months (vs 19 months for the 2019). Medium-heavy bodied (for a Pinot) and overall a competent Pinot. Palate of muddled darker Pinot fruits - nothing sticks out to me, then it is supported by a very skilled touch of oak spices. Medium-heavy tannins bring in structure, but lack any new flavor elements. A decent amount of heat on the finish for only 13.9%. Long finish starting off with dark fruit, then leading to granite, orange zest, and spices. A persisting herbal and spicy finish builds up.

This is good, and I'll probably pick up a few more bottles just to see how they age along with the 2019s. But is drowned out by the sea of other great Pinots from the SCM. It is lacking that American oak impression that made the 2018 and 2019 very interesting. This is worthy of trying out, but I much rather open up one of the 2019s in our cellar.
