Big, bold and rich CdP that is drinking fabulous. One of the best I have had and at a great price. This is what my dad meant when he said “by cheap and drink expensive”

Decanted thru Vinturi 2 hours before drinking w/appetizers before and at beginning of steak dinner. Nice nose of mature blue fruit, floral notes, cedar. Faint bricking, smooth on the palate with a long finish. A 92 by the time the bottle was finished.

Drank this over two days while on a duck hunt. The wine was better than the hunting. This is my next to last bottle of this QPR CdP. Whish iI had more.

Opened this with homemade cassoulet. Great pairing! Very fragrant upon opening with definite notes of figs and cherries. Opened about 2 hours before drinking and this helped open it up. A full-bodied wine. Tannins were softer than I expected but gave enough backbone. Taste was wonderful with fruit - mostly dark berry and fig-like - enough acid to keep the wine balanced and nice endnotes of tobacco/leather. Long finish. A terrific wine with this meal. Noting the lifetime expectancy up to 2021 I would tend to think this wine should be drunk before that. I have 2 more bottles so I'll wait a while and test it.

2006 Chateauneuf du Papes (Vin Vino Wine, Palo Alto, CA): Ripe blackberry fruit, some savory notes of olive and beef broth, just a touch of brett. Medium to full bodied with low to medium acidity. Blackberries, anise, herbs and moderate tannins. A bit rustic but nice.

Tested from a preservation machine. Nose of hints of nail polish, mild sweet spice, floral and stony mineral. In the mouth dry ripe balanced fruit (red and dark raspberry, dark berry, some cherry) with hints of dried sweetish fig, oak, mineral, licorice or maybe roasted fennel. Finish medium of elements in balance. Dryish. Body medium, acid medium, tannin medium.

Yet to be Named Wine Club Meeting #3 (Laszlo and Ida's): Double decanted and re-corked for 30 hours. Color showing first signs of maturation (orange flecking). Nose: Crazy complexity with great lift. Red berry, watermelon, prune, cologne and smoky caramel. Incredible clean finish with great balance and length. Lip-smacking good. Young with a promising future.

Flight of 2006 Chateauneufs for the Common Man (Vin Vino, Palo Alto): Slighter lighter ruby than the Mont Olivet. Some garrigue here too, but more fruit in the form of pungent black cherry. Medium weight, but this pretty much collapses after the initial sense of briary fruit. Not enough flesh on these bones.

Decided to pop the cork on one of these early. Decanted for 1.5 hours prior to pouring first glass. Nose of raspbery ganache, figs, cigar, smoke, red licorice and garigue. Palate showed cocoa powder, raspbery and red licorice. Firm tannins that need time to smooth out. Longish finish that is somewhat bitter and that prevents this from scoring higher. Won't touch another for at least 3 years.

I know its probably too soon but I had to pop one of these to try. I like the wine. I do believe that this wine will improve with age but right now I find it pretty approachable. Nice clear garnet color. Nose giving a bit of fruit and spice. Flavors of glycerine, dark fruits and earth. good tannic backbone and underlying complexity promises improvement in the yers ahead.

Intense dark berry with floral notes. Dense, current paste, fig and licorice with decent length. Drinking very nicely now with years to go.

2006 Chateauneuf du Papes (and a white CdP starter) (Vin Vino Wine, Palo Alto, CA): Blueberries on the nose. Light to medium bodied, not a lot of depth. Some oak and tannins evident.
