This bottle showed well at the start, but then that big soft 2015 fruit moved out in front. It's rather loose at the moment for my preferences, and lacks the energy and complexity I'd like to see in Les Barres. Overall good but not great - I'll will give this 2-3 years to shed more of the upfront soft fruit and hopefully show some bones.

Disgorged Jul-19. An very interesting BdN. Complex, intense, balanced and structural. Love to see how will it age but too bad it's my last bottle. Great QPR.

Champagnes at Quan Xiang Yuan: Very true to Chartogne-Taillet's style so it wasn’t difficult to guess this. Round and slightly oxidative, red-fruited strawberry notes typical of Pinot Noir-dominant champagnes. Always love the balance between the richness and acid from this producer.

The nose is perfumed and complex with red apples, quince, spiced pears, chalky tones, yellow flowers, minerals, pastry tones, biscuits, and warm dough. There is a lot of depth and balance with this showing off how good Les Barres can also express Pinot Noir. The feel is Medium bodied with tart, high acidity. The acidity has some sting at the moment, but the feel is well balanced and deep. This could use a few more years, but its really good right now. I really like this addition to the Chartogne-Taillet lineup as it's a different expression than the meunier and still really wonderful.

As part of our tradition, we always enjoy champagne on Oscar night. The mousse is fine, the nose is brown butter, brioche, and bruised apple, the palate has some oxidative notes, red apple, hazel nuts, and a touch of lime. If I was served blind, I would have guessed Bollinger, but at a lower dosage.

2015 Chartogne-Taillet Les Barres. 100 % Pinot Noir. Great mousse. Light gold color. Restrained mineral nose, sweet berries, yeasty notes and toast. Crisp acidity that cuts through the palate, ending with a long soft finish.

Second time to try this wine. It’s a very fine BdN, with beautiful red apple skin character, nice complexity and length. Hard to go wrong with this producer in my opinion.

10 months ago this was a red fruit bomb. Today it's a wall of oak holding back a hint of butter. Not sure if it's an off bottle or what, but will definitely hold my last bottle for another few years before popping.

Lovely. Really energetic, fresh, opens beautifully in glass to pinot red fruits. Ideal with food. Should be great for years. July 2019 disgorgement (which I think is only one he did for this bottling.)

100% Pinot Noir, 2015 harvest, July 2016 bottling, July 2019 disgorgement, 4-5 g/L dosage. There's so much going on here, more than I can capture. Delicious, many different lush notes under the primary "apple crisp meets oak" profile. I can sense a bit of the black pepper aftertaste, but it seems to be a characteristic of the oak rather than a standalone spice, if that makes sense. Outstanding.

The nose is deep and expressive, filling the glass with toast, brioche, custard, red apples, quince, stone fruits, spiced pears, red fruits, meyer lemons, roast nuts, vanilla beans, some oak notes, and a good dose of baking spices. There is some heft to the Medium bodied feel with racy, high acidity. There is good texture and depth to the feel while the acidity has a lot of punch right now. This is really good and it could likely benefit from some more age as there are some rough edges that could smooth out.

This is a champagne that requires time and patience. I actually think it will be much better with some additional age, but we were in the mood for some bubbles on a warm evening with a lovely takeout meal from Daniel and this was in the fridge. Started off a bit tight and the acid is more prevalent. Shifted then into a more peppery and spicy style. Went particularly nicely with an asparagus and poached egg sauce.

Very nice wine with some sherry notes, toasty hazelnut, and oyster shell. Ample acidity with broad red fruits on the palate, and a very fine mousse. Punches above its weight.

Jun 2019 deg, 4.5 g/L dosage. Darker yellow in the glass, clear Pinot tones for such a young wine, with red fruit on the nose.
Very aggressive mousse, and strong oak, green apple, and brioche notes on the palate, but the overall impression is of a well-made, balanced wine that's still very young and tight. This is a fine example of a young BdN, but give it time to show more completely.

New Year's (Chicago, IL): Brilliant stuff. This is pretty much as good as the white-label. Without a side-by-side it's pretty hard to discern differences, but this does have a really nice breadth and a good balance of tart fruit, mushrooms, and minerality. It certainly tastes like the other examples of Chartogne's wines I've had in the past. If anything, there is maybe a bit more of a red fruit signature here, but without the side-by-side, I wouldn't rely on that note.

Slate light olive golden color, slightly coarse bubbles. Nose golden fruit, aromatic, hint of vanilla. Palate mineral, balanced acidity and some golden fruit.
Really drinkable and great depth already but could use another couple of years to develop. Good match with Korean bbq. 92 pts

We opened this last night and I stoppered it up and stuck the remaining few ounces back in the fridge for retasting today. Disgorged June 2019, 4-5 g/l dosage, 100% PN. Bit leesy and what seems like a toasted note, which makes sense as I do believe the wines are raised in wood. I am really enjoying this, as it has some nice structure that leans out some of the fruit, alongside some raspberry, tangy red apple, fresh squeezed lime and some lime zest. I actually think this tastes better to me today than it did last night as all of the flavors are working well together, and there is a seamless, pure feel to the wine. Terrific.

Golden apples dusted with powdered sugar and layered atop a waffle, and sprinkled with some subtle cinnamon-like spice. This has nothing like the uniqueness and character of the meunier, and doesn't justify the pricetag as that wine effortlessly does. But it's awfully tasty nonetheless.

La Fête du Champagne Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Walk around tasting. Three different versions were tasted - same wine with different levels of dosage - respectively 2, 3, and 5 g/l. This wine is typically made from Meunier, so 2015 from Pinot Noir is a rarity and expect that probably one version will be produced.
2 g/l was brutally austere, but just 3 g/l was charming, rounded and showing bright fruit that suddenly seemed ripe. 5 f/l was soft and fleshy and slightly less exciting, even though the nose is floral, spicy and enticing.

This 2015 pinot noir is really good. But also quite different from, and less iconic than the standard pinot meunier incarnation of this wine. Drinking surprisingly well already. Glad to have a bunch of bottles.

Skurnik Tasting (Prince George Ballroom in NYC): First time with this wine and I was very excited to get to try it (it was in fact the reason we made the visit to the table). Definitely met expectations. More interesting and different. More power than the St Anne. A wine that is made for longer term age it seems. Still very refined and well done. Enjoyable.
