How long can you wait to drink a Juvenile? Evidently pretty long. A bit brickish but still deep red with big plum-violet notes on the nose and then plum and, of course raisin character, 12 years in. Still yummy.

This was the last of my 2006 Turleys. Amazingly, this bottle showed no significant signs of decline. Visually, the color was still a deep, dark color with consistency. There was a noticeable lack of big creeping legs as seen in younger Turley Zins. Big nose with less alcohol heat to it. Still popping with big plummy fruit, hints of anise and dark chocolate. Very intense. Hard to say how far past its peak, but this was an excellent wine that easily has two more years

A fading beauty. It lacks the powerful jammy fruit one thinks of when presented by a Turley, but confirms that for all their forward fruit, Turleys age very nicely. Chocolate, raspberry, stewed plums, tobacco, and herbal notes. Less power, more finesse.

Nice flavors of dark red fruits with a good dose of bramble and a lot of black pepper. Medium body, soft edges and an acidic bite at the end. Not overdone and with plenty of California zin flavors.

Enjoyed this very much on a crisp Fall afternoon. Gobs of briary fruit, but little evident oak, ample buoying acidity and, for me, not an undue amount of alcoholic heat. Certainly not complex, but when I want Cali Zin this makes me happy.

Me thinks this wine is passing it's prime as I type. The nose, upon opening, burst with red fruits and the typical zippy aroma you come to expect from a zin. The palate is unbalanced as the fruit is gone and what is left is a hot medicinal after taste. I've had good mature zins, and I've had this bottle in it's youth which is why I say, my "Juvenile" has grown up to be a bit of a disappointment, but since I know what a good kid he was I can't be too tough on him. Drink up.

This was my fault. Brought to Travail expecting to eat heavy dishes but our tasting menu leaned toward lighter fare so the wine was out of place. Perfectly fine zin, drink now would be my recommendations. Was out of place so I wasn't really focused on the wine. Solid purple coloring and purple fruit profile, well balanced.

Great Turley! This is a cuvee from various Turley vineyard's including Hayne. Lovely, easy to drink. Berry, dusty on nose. Opened and sat for an hour, but not decanted. No heat, despite high alchohol, was one of the best zins at this tasting. Tie with Carlisle Sonoma Valley - screw cap.

Juicy, slurpable. In great shape, very inviting. Purple fruits are the lead note, not an intellectual wine by any means but great with pizza and a movie. Intended to drink half as I had funneled into a .375 upon opening, but we ended up drinking the whole thing!

Seemed to be a bit thin and weak, maybe getting a bit long in the tooth. Sweet, phenol nose with hints of raspberry. Flavors are okay, raspberry, cracked pepper, little bit of heat, tannins that finish and dry and may portend a short remaining life. Drink in 2010.

Tannic, sour fruit, disjointed. Pepper and oak overwhelm the slight cherry fruit. There were hints of coal. minerality and forest floor/moss that showed signs of promise but I had to dig for something positive in this wine. The worst showing for Juvenile for me in a very long time. Very hot finish.

Hesitant to "dis" this wine/producer (and somewhat Zin-averse, these days), I'm choosing not to rate it. Clearly not mindblowing and its limited, positive attributes were likely only revealed since it followed both, a local Mourvedre (which offered no frame of reference, whatever) and the aforementioned Branham Rockpile Zin...Much ado About Nothing?

like all Turleys, err on the side of coolness; dramatic move toward brambles, raspberries and alcohol as the wine warmed. But the wine is well-knit, and the fruit is neither obvious nor particularly big. Hint of barn stench, bark and decay. and I mean all that in a good way. Nice range of brightness and sullenness as it moves across the palate.

Spicy, sweet and licorice-y. A wine that is what it is- there will always be detractors for this style/varietal/producer, but it is difficult to deny the ability of this wine to please a crowd. A terrific aperitif at a terrific price.

Very nice, elegant styled zin. medium bodied, with lots of spice, brambleberry and a bit of smokiness to it. Good concentration, but not over blown or over ripe. Further proof that Turley gets a bad rap for its style. I will assume that most people who slag Turley haven't actually tasted the wines, they are elegant and texture with a lot of complexity, and they actually age very well. Well done as always Turley, and I can't wait to drink through the line-up of '07s.

Understated with flavors of plumb, anise seed and blackberry. This wine is smooth but slightly lacking in the depth you would expect from this producer. At $20 it's the entry level Turley so one would imagine that it's not on par with some of the other vineyard designated Zins produced. Good QPR. Drink now.

Bright red fruits and on the tart/acidic side. Not as much of the "Turley spice" as you get with some of their other bottlings. This is still a good QPR at $22, but this wine seems to be falling out of favor with me. Simple, straightforward, good-but-not-great.

Popped and poured. The initial nose was all dry cedar but after awhile dark intense fruit really showed up. I got hints of cinnamon and spice. Ann said spice and pine tree but not in a bad way. In the mouth there were cherry, raspberry and blackberry fruits with cedar and spices. A little bit tart with nice acidity and tannins. Classic Turley flavors. Suggest decanting for a half hour before drinking.

This one had a funky smell. I think it may have been corked. The cork also showed seepage almost to the top. Probably delivered in hot weather. Not typical of Turley's fantastic wines. I hope the other 4 bottles are not like that!

What a nice change from the '05 wines. For my palate, considering I like the Turley style and buy these for that reason, this is as good or better than nearly every '05 wine. It doesn't have the oomph or the complexity of the '02 wines, but it is moving the right direction. Kirsch, a bit of a floral aromatic, ripe and rounded on the palate, with plenty of red fruits. Not a home run, but a solid single.

Ordered by the glass at a restaurant (though I'm pretty sure this was a new bottle when they served it - the first glass I ordered was clearly cooked, so I assume they opened another when I sent it back). Unfortunately, this still tasted very raisin-y, though the aromatics were very nice fresh fruits and cellar dust.

Bright black cherry intermixed with tarragon on the nose. This wine is ruby colored and medium-bodied. The tannic palate features light raspberry flavors. This bottle had been open since the previous day. I think this is much better than the ‘05 Juvenile, which was a massive bomb of V/A, the ‘06 is a return to form for Turley and their Juvenile bottling.

This was opened at Anwars house last weekend during our rib offline. Not sure who brought this (either Anwar or Scubarex). Anyway, this was the best Zin I have had in a while. Although my tastes do not usually prefer Zin, this wine seemed very balanced with plenty of secondary flavors which ramped up the quality. Creamy texture without any heat or alcohol. notes of vanilla, toasted oak and chamomile. Full bodied with a good mouthfeel and finish. 90-91 points.

Much better than the '05 version. When first opened it had a little metallic taste, but after two hours in the decanter it was fantastic. Not a ton of weight, but for $20 it is about as good of a zinfandel as you will find (execpt for maybe the Carlisle SC Zin).

Light bodied, juicy Zin. This might be confused for one of the riper Cali Pinots in a blind tasting. Nice QPR

For entry level Turley, is a really good value. Definitely a fruit bomb, but nice peppery feel. Really lush and vibrant. Still a little tannic, but is a young wine and could use some time

like all Turleys, err on the side of coolness; dramatic move toward brambles, raspberries and alcohol as the wine warmed.

A terrific aperitif at a terrific price.

spice and pepper. but not showing much fruit , in fact the longer it was open the less fruit there seemed to be. balanced firm tannins. I don't like this vintage as much as past Juveniles. I like my zins bolder.

Pretty good zin with classic flavors and color. It was a little hot in the beginning, although when it mellowed out it still was not impressing me that much.

Simple, straightforward, good-but-not-great.
gut impression score: mid-80's

Popped and poured. The initial nose was all dry cedar but after awhile dark intense fruit really showed up. I got hints of cinnamon and spice. Ann said spice and pine tree but not in a bad way. In the mouth there were cherry, raspberry and blackberry fruits with cedar and spices. A little bit tart with nice acidity and tannins. Classic Turley flavors. Suggest decanting for a half hour before drinking.

Nice entry level Turley but not the fruit or concentration their better wines have.
But for $23 at the store, not too bad. B
