This 2001 still very alive. Nice. Color. Full nose ( leather, fruit on background). Nice balanced wine. Long after taste. Very good bottle in mediocre year.

La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (Pier Sixty - New York NY): In 00/01/03 vertical. Lots of red cherry and berry start-to-finish with good+ weight and great length. Not a powerhouse, but wonderfully finessed. Slightly better/ brighter than another bottle (from same case) from 2 years ago.

This leaned heavily toward red fruits, and was quite linear. Not the rich, opulent style I've experienced from other Meo Richebourg. My sense is this wine is quite young, and needs at least another decade to fill out. Served blind, after a long night of blind tasting, and perhaps my palate was fatigued.

A 40th Birthday Celebration, Dinner Edition (Atlas Bistro - Scottsdale AZ): Late night, served double blind. Nicely mature red cherry and berry throughout with licorice and allspice. I thought this clearly from Vosne, certainly Grand Cru, and from a moderately mature vintage. However I thought it considerably older given its fruit profile, elegance and balance. My analysis took me to Rouget 1991 Echezeaux. Oops.

A stunning Burgundy that is drinking at peak now but should certainly hold. Gorgeous nose of flowers and cherries; the sweetest perfume. On the palate, it is so silky and fine with fabulous grippy and elegant cherry fruit which leads to an awesome finish that is so complex and full of mineral crunch and Vosne spice. Just loved drinking this right now! Meo's wines are said to be made in a more modern style and I do agree that sometimes they can overpower the terroir but this is simply a fabulous bottle of Burgundy no matter which camp you're in. At Blue Hill Stone Barns with the Klane's.

Stunning nose of fresh black cherries, dark earth, minerals and floral lift. This is gorgeous juice that has reached a point where it can be fully enjoyed now given how expressive and complex it's showing. Beautifully delineated flavors of silky cherries, sweet red spice and char caress the palate along with good fresh acidity and a slightly creamy texture. It builds to a very fine and complex finish with lots of savory notes and an extraordinary cherry spice intensity that is so deliciuous and very Richebourg. Also very 2001 in it's softness and elegance and soil-driven flavors. Fabulous Burgundy!

2001 Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru Dinner (Imperial Treasure Teochew, Takashimaya): Magnificent. It is difficult to come after two truly monumental bottles of DRC and Leroy Richebourg, but this managed to hold its own pretty well. It had a beautiful nose, clearly different from the other two wines with its smoky layers of mineral and chalk and earth floating around a dark core of black cherries and plums and more lifted orange peel scents wreathed in fragrant spice and dark flower petals. Lovely, arresting stuff. The dark-fruited palate was thick and rich and powerful in a very Meo-Camuzet fashion. It was certainly well balanced and nicely structured, but it almost came across bit muddled compared to the effortless elegance of the other two wines at first. With time and some air though, this opened up beautifully to show a superbly delineated, almost linear character to its pure flavours of dark cherry and berries and orange peel lined with a lovely savoury undercurrent of dried earth, meat and stony minerality. The fruit almost felt secondary at the finish, with all those savoury notes really capturing the imagination on the backpalate. This had flavor and intensity, complexity and finesse, combining Meo-Camuzet’s characteristic weight and richness with the clarity and precision of the best 2001 Grand Crus. If anything, it actually felt unusual lifted and light on its feet. A great wine, drinking wonderfully now.

My favorite of the Meo Richebourg lineup tonight. A vibrant nose of serious spice, red and black fruit and a slight mushroom note surrounded with floral hints. Huge in the mouth without being heavy. Well structured, but the fruit is in balance. Very long finish with superb grip. r

Dinner at Georges Blanc (Georges Blanc, Vonnas, France): At Georges Blanc. Opened roughly 2.5 hours before drinking and served alongside the 01 Meo Brulees. Much deeper and more serious nose than the Brulees, but sharing the same crushed dark cherry/berry notes and a lot of brown spices. Deep floral and hoisin notes as well. The same darker berry fruit on the somewhat firm palate with, again, more concentration than the Brulees. The great minerality gives a wonderful backbone to the wine. Fantastic balance of fruit and acidity with a long gripping finish. Outstanding!

I really like this. Its very complex with deep dark red fruit. Very fresh in the mouth with a pretty elegant structure even though its pretty heavy. I would not cry if I can drink this again. I had it against Leroy Richebourg from the same vintage and it did well even if they are totally different in style. I like Meo but I adore Leroy.

Great nose to this, classic pinot with good minerality but it shows a bit of wood and a bit of mid-palate weakness. But overall, this very nice wine that is drinking well now but it will improve.

Dinner at the French Laundry. Served alongside the 2001 Anne Gros Richebourg. Decanted for roughly 1 hour before consuming. A much more powerful and masculine style compared to the Anne Gros. Very dark berry and cherry with a lot of seductive brown spice. Asian spice and soy notes as well. Rich, medium plus bodied palate with fantastic spice throughout. Long finish with some grip. Outstanding with with a very long life ahead of it.

Beautiful bright red color. The nose is phenomenal, possibly the best nose I've had in any pinot - tons of kirsch-like fruit, sweet chinese soy and loads of asian spices, very decadent and intellectually stimulating at the same time. Tastewise this is sweet and fat and echoes the nose, very pleasing and high quality as well, but doesn't quite do the nose honor.

Good underlying core red and dark fruit with an ethereal mouthfeel but the wine is impacted by hint of VA. Still enjoyable.

Excellent spice and red fruit on the nose. Carries through to the palate with quite a bit of iron. A bit lean on the finish.
