Drinking beautifully. A rich wine , deep yellow, paired incredibly well with a rich lobster pasta. Won’t hold up too much longer. Drink if you have it!

opened, decanted briefly to clean out the bottle and put back in purchased about 6 years ago from a good caviste in France and stored properly since
robe - as a friend's 10 year old daughter said " it looks like pee" By just looking at it, I would guess that it was a mid age sauterne by it's hue - BEAUTIFUL!
nose - This is a delight to smell. The notes coming through are all across the spectrum ranging from a pineapple , to wet wool, a bit note of hay and a slight touch of oxidation. SO SO GOOD!
palate - I had this wine a few years back that was from my cellar and bought at the same time. This bottle had a a bit more freshness compared to the slight oiliness of the last one. This bottle was very much more enjoyable and went perfectly with with a Chicken Tajine. The length was wonderful and the profile was on point. I almost feel that this wine is more about it's textures and mouth feel than the taste even though it tastes delicious. I had commented that this wine is not for beginners. It is not an easy drinking white wine - it is complex and rich and earthy and very much a learning experience.
if you have some of these, DO NOT hesitate to open one. I think that it goes well with white meat dishes, with sauces and creams and some spice too. I also think that this will coast for another few years - 2 to 3 but I actually see this at it's peak or darn close depending on how it was stored. Delicious

Deep golden, bronzed colour. Nutty, honeyed, mushroomy nose. Hugely thick and unctuous. Dense, rich, big. Almonds, olive oil, tiny amount of bitterness, which reins in all this opulence. Ageing with elegance. Impressive and serious but not exactly versatile - it's limited because it lacks freshness. It's almost like it's a food in its own right. Baked apple, cinnamon, creme caramel.

This is a gorgeous intense beautifully textured wine, with sack loads of complexity and length. So why the parsimonious score? For my palate it is just a little over the hill - a little old and tired. Enough to put me off opening another bottle in preference for something younger and fresher. There will be those who like the aged elements but it is not for me.
Rich mouthfeel, mango, tangerine, Lady Gray tea. Drink now, hints of caramel oxidation showing through, along with a slight aftertaste.

Reading previous TN's, I thought this was ready to open. I thought wrong. This wine probably needs to be revisited again around 2024 at the earliest. There's very little interest atm. It's all texture and taste smacks of oak. It's got little interest.
I suggest revisiting closer to the 20 year mark. I've had transcendent white hermitage and this is not settled yet. Could very well blossom into a memorable wine but we are far from there yet.
Hold to 2024+ before re-assessing. 14% abv

This wine has had some surprisingly negative reviews so far, but I really liked it. True, this wine is difficult to match with food, but good pairings are possible and very worth it. The key is, as Goldstein says, a rich, but mild flavor.

Holiday dinner at Mel and Sylvia's (Vancouver, BC): Very rich on the nose displaying aromas of lemon oil, some oxidation/nail polish, candied ginger and ground nuts. That oily texture follows through to the palate showing a fair bit of gingerbread spice, baked almonds, oxidized green apples, red apple skins and some orange peel. Plenty of tart tongue numbing acidity and a long length finish ending on notes of oxidized apples and ginger. Enjoyable viscous texture on this that just coats the tongue. Very good+

Honey, Flowers, Sweet Corn, a certain hidden Sweetness, after 10 Minutes the honey was gone in the nose and instead I got a hint of green tea. In the palate this wine shows a strong bitter taste which I actually quite liked. Honey, rosemary, a bit of a hidden minerality. Good wine but nothing exceptional

Decanted 1.5 hours, served at 14C. Notes from memory. This suffered somewhat from being served slightly too warm, but once chilled was consistent with previous notes. Complex bouquet of toasted oak, flint, white flower and honey that is mirrored on the palate with a taut balance, and long final. Memorable wine that does not leave one indifferent.
This was my 3rd bottle of 6 and I've enjoyed them all to date. I'm cellaring the other 3 till around 2020 to see how the Marsanne evolves.

More yellow-gold color. The nose is noticeably botrytis and wood, new barrique? Liqueur-like nose of orange, cooked apple, green figs, honeysuckle. Glossy texture, (viscous w/just medium acidity). Very round and textured. Lots of honeyed/botrytis notes coming out as it sits in the glass. Returned to the glass latter and it showed more peach, apple, and mineral. Then something lactic latter still. Very complex wine.

Decanted 1 hour, served at 10C. Medium yellow. Honeysuckle, grilled toast and oak with a faint mineral note. Unctuous, soft attack with complex, multilayered mid-palate of floral, mineral and oak elements. A bit like a good Condrieu but more mineral and steely. Had en apperitif but this wine is substantial enough that it really should be served with food. Not everyone will like as it has a complex, unusual flavour profile with a somewhat bitter final - not as immediately approachable as many whites, but lovers of deep, multi-layered whites will be pleased.

Decanted 1.5 hr served at 12C. Dark yellow gold. Restrained bouquet at first but over 1.5 hours this blossomed to show creme brulée, orange marzipan, and a floral/citrus background tinged with an ever so faint trace of contact cement. On entry, round, voluptuous and glycerol laden this elixir gradually builds through a lovely mid-palate of white flower, citrus fruits and a oak influenced, lovely long final with good acidity supporting. Stood up very well to barbecued white fish and salmon accompanied by risotto and then did very well on its own afterwards. This is a very complex, multi-dimensional wine that can go well with strong flavoured foods or stand on its own.

Light and clear lemon yellow. Intense, sweet white stone fruits and rhubarb flavour boiled sweets on the nose. Rich honeyed peach on the palate; spicy minerality and a little hit of vodka-esque alcohol. A slight, almost tannic bitterness in the finish from the young Marsanne, but lovely.

Ahhhh, showing beautifully, a wonderfully sleek and beautiful young white Hermitage. Just how I like the best Alouettes--not over oaked, but with some great spice and honeyed fruits. So elegant and seamless on the palate. Honeyed hazelnut, some wintermint element. Yummm!!

Northern Rhone Visit, May 2009; 5/14/2009-5/17/2009 (Condrieu, Ampuis, Cornas, Tain -- France): Tasted at the Domaine -- Silky and huge, with green olive and honeyed nuts. Pure silk, butterscotch. I didn’t rate it higher because of a slight glue element, but a .375 opened (see above) that I purchased here this day was staggering. Maybe the bottle in the tasting room was off a bit, or open too long?

Bright straw-yellow with a few greenish hues. Slightly locked but very complex nose, with candied peaches, honey, almond paste and herbs. Full bodied with oily texture. Huge fruit concentration and suppressed acidity that balances the huge body in a very...particular way. Very long finish of candied pergamond. A very idiosyncratic white: extremely complex and rich, but difficult to match with food. Try sweetish dishes such as meats with soy and honey sauce. Nicely enjoyed on its own. Will gain complexity and extra points with further cellaring.

Rounder, more balanced and more expressive overall compared to previous tasting, as I had predicted. Halfway to gaining an extra point, which it probably will next time. The aftertaste this time was closer to conifers honey than candied pergamont.
