Gorgeous classic big bodied Cali chardonnay. Rich butter and new baked bread, yellow apple and peach, lovely salinity. Acidity good. Showing signs of age, slight oxidative notes. Certainly ready to drink now and for me would be a risk to keep it longer - but why not forget a bottle for another 15 years and then see. Long finish but lacks the complexity for a higher score.

PnP chilled, 1/2 hour in glass. Clear, med straw color. Initial nose tight but opened up with time. This wine is in it's perfect drinking window. Clean and still bright fruit, very well integrated/balanced, med body, classic CA Chardonnay, smooth, soft, firm, one could drink thing all day. No hint of cork or over the top. Delicious. Nothing off. Mike's.

Waterford Staff Party 2.0 (Waterford Wine Co., Milwaukee): Wowza!! Next to all this white burgundy, this is the real deal of regional difference. Just shy of pineapple, much sweeter and richer than the 07 Coche Dury Rougeots Meursault next to it. Smoke, oak, clove, 14.6%ABV, some nuttiness towards the finish. Dare I say, the clock is ticking on this one. DAY 4, still holding on strong, but again the madeira-style nuttiness on the finish makes me wonder. much more focus on the palate today, but there is that circus peanut (also buttered popcorn, maybe they're really one in the same) on the palate and in the aromas.

In line with my previous tastenote. "New world Chardonnay on steroids. Deep yellow color with a surprisingly weak nose. Difficult to actually pick up any specific Chardonnay character. Opened up after some time but still very subdued. Full bodied with lots of creamy, buttery texture and very potent alcohol (14,5%). Distinct oak and acidity. Although strong flavors and very concentrated, the wine is balanced. A fantastic wine but nothing to have on its own. Definitely need food and more tasty things than shellfish."

Excellent California Chardonnay. Deep yellow color and a subtle, classical nose with typical Chardonnay character. Hints of oak, smoke and a flowery touch. Full body and good acidity and a buttery finish. A great wine, one of the better oaky chardonnays I have had. The wood is well balanced and not over dominant as many New world Chardonnays are. Needs food though, might be too overwhelming on its own.

Excellent example of California Chardonnay. Pale lemon blending into a light gold color. Medium intensity nose with obvious oak and hints of spice, vanilla, lemon, white stone fruit, creaminess. Medium/fuller body and good acidity. Melon, lemon, vanilla and spicy characteristics... good long finish. 90+

Golden straw colour. Nose of caramel, ripe bananas and Manuka honey with a bit of beeswax furniture polish on the back end as it warms in the glass. Palate is rich warm toasty oak, caramel on the front end but balanced by lemon zest acidity then quickly a mid to back-end palate of warm nettles and demerera sugar, toasted oak and vanilla creme brulee. Thick mouthfeel and quite heady alcohol. Long persistent finish with some agrreable but rather heavy resonance inside the head on the finale. I'd taken this out of the cellar thinking that it might be ending its best drinking period and it has definitely lost its youthful primary citrus-driven zinginess....actually rather faster than I'd expected, leaving something well-crafted but rather too oaky and heavy for my personal taste. However, if you like your Cali Chardonnay big, gutsy and well-crafted with lots of bass notes this is a very good wine.

Perfect with scallops and buerre blanc sauce! Pale golden green. Quite classic refined nose, unusual for a Californian Chardonnay. There are some popcorn and butter but also smoke, flint, good minerality and some acid/orange overtones. However, the palate is unmistakingly overseas, with a bit too much alcohol (14,5%) and a fat mouthfeel. The fruit manages to conceal the alcohol fairly well though. Overall a very good wine which is very competent with food. The Montebello is a notch more complete obviously but this is good value for money.

Pale gold. Top has hints of lemon but gives way to tropical fruits like pineapple. Strong, creamy oak but not too powerful, tempered by fresh toast/bread. Relatively smooth attack given 14.6% alc., and acid. Honeysuckle evolves into a grapefruit aftertaste. Showing some age already, with sherry like notes of oxidation. Should be drunk now. MUCH better more chilled than normal as it starts to get fat at higher temps. Great cost performance.

Nose was quite pronounced and rich. Toasty oak notes. Cantaloupe and fresh yellow peaches. A hint of tropical fruits. Very rich and full Chardonnay, but still crisp and well balanced with bright acidity. Canned peaches, creamy lemon, cantaloupe and a touch of almond. Long, long finish with a little white pepper. Delicious paired with a Shrimp Tomato Bisque.

A great job done by Ridge. This chardonnay has all the fruit you are expecting from an overseas wine, but still ables to fresh it up with good acidity. Fat, but still elegant nose of white fruit, butter and oriental flowers, and a full bodied, but still zesty, palate. Surprisingly great! Nose on this bottle leaned toward the flinty side of things (unlike the one I tasted at the winery, which was much more dominated by tropical fruits). Aromas of crushed rocks, lemon oil, and dried pineapple on the nose. Good acidity and roundness on the palate. Medium to full-bodied.
