Great Pinot nose! Austere palate. Opens with time to a 91. Great producer in an average year. Somehow I expected more. Tannin still dominates, but is this wine still too young, or have I missed the drinking window? Time will tell! Two more bottles.
Cellar Tracker says that this is past it's drinking window. I say, that if your storage is good, this wine has many good years to go. Tannins are still present, but the copious fruit will outlast them. Well balanced wine. Good producers always make good wine in every vintage. Stick with them. Drink now with pleasure or hold..

A richer 2006. Very similar to my previous note. Cherry, leaves, spice on the nose. Medium body, well structured. Cherry fruit, raspberry, some oak, nice acid on the sour fruit finish. Opened and consumed over 3 hours. The fruit is fading a bit as time moves on. Very good now and maybe 2-3 years at this level.

Garnet, clear, medium weight. Opened without decanting but notes are from about an hour after opening. Cherry, woodspice, raspberry jam on nose. Cherry, nice leather, a little rhubarb, rich red berry fruit in the middle and finish. Velvety mouth feel. A little dry on the finish. In the window and good for a couple of years at this level.

Had low expectations going in so it was good enough for me but if i take a step back it is really not to the level it should have for the appellation...maybe because it is 2006 but still other producers like Dujac made great wines in 2006. Bottle was bought and kept since the release.

Hard and not very pleasant by now. 5 hours of air did open it up a bit, but not even with food it met our expectations. Saom dark fruit, not very elegant, dry leather. Taste is mature, the acidity is in place, but not great.

Still on the young side of course, but already a good wine. Shy om the nose but fine in the mouth, with tart cherries, lots of minerals and fine focus. Very good but hardly of Grand Cru level, rather a solid 1er Cru.

2006 Red Burgundy Tasting (The Wine Club, San Francisco): Big, somewhat obvious nose of strawberry and darker berry fruits, wood spice, vanilla. Densely-wound ripe strawberry palate, quite big, concentrated and long, turning more mineral and dark-fruited on the midpalate and finish. Very ripe and showing slightly more obvious wood than the previous wines, with significant astringence on the back. Should be very fine but the wood and tannin are a bit much now.

2006 Red Burgundy Including DRC Echezeaux (The Wine Club, San Francisco): Again, pale color, but here there is good intensity of black fruit on the nose. It smells like serious wine. Likewise, more on the palate than the color suggests with nice inner mouth aromatics and rising tart cherry fruit. Good flesh, long tannic finish.

2005 and 2006 Cote de Beaune (Beltramo's, Menlo Park): Earthiest aroma of all the wines, indeed a bit of funk. This is a very different animal from the Volnay-spicier, leaner, and much more grip at the end. Built for the future. Nevertheless, it still has good mouth feel. Given the price differential and the seductiveness of the 60 Ouvrees, that is the wine to buy.

No formal notes. Nice drinking, not memorable but still enjoyable.

09 Dauvissat Forest, 08 Faiveley Rugiens, 06 Pousse d'Or Corton (R&R Kitchen and Bar, Saratoga Springs, NY): [Opened at 5pm. Served at 7:10pm.] Bright cherry nose. Tasty and smooth with rich red fruit, but there's a slightly green stemmy component that I hope it will fade with several more years of aging. 92?

Medium orange red; lots of strawberries, raspberries; sweet attack, lovely acidity level, slightly tannic ending; long flowery aftertaste; outstanding

Five years since last bottle. Much has happened, with maturity kicking in to soften things up. Not grand, but a solid effort.

Ingen stor opplevelse. Det er en i Vinforum som har karakterisert 2006 som den dårligste årgangen i ti-aret.
