  • The fruit is sourced from the Pora vineyard - specifically from parcels owned by the Dellaferrera and Manzone families. Released only after a minimum of four years of aging. Bottle #7585 of total 20250 bottles. 13,5% alcohol.

    Surprisingly youthful appearance for its age; quite translucent garnet color with a slightly evolved blood-red hue and a thin, colorless rim. The nose feels quite dry, rather evolved and pretty complex with attractive aromas of rose hips and dried flowers, some meaty tones, a little bit of raspberry jam, light dried figs tones, a hint of sour cherry and a touch of balsamic VA. The wine feels juicy, savory and harmonious on the palate with a moderately full body and quite ripe flavors of cherries, some savory notes of meaty umami, a little bit of wild strawberry, light evolved nuances of old leather and dried flowers, a hint of balsamic richness and a sweeter touch of dried figs. The rather high acidity and ample, still moderately grippy tannins lend good sense of structure to the wine. The finish is long, rich and juicy with a ripe aftertaste of red cherries and wild strawberries, some evolved meaty tones, a little bit of dried figs, light leathery nuances, a volatile hint of balsamic richness and a touch of tar. The tannins make the wine end on a moderately grippy note.

    A fine, harmonious and thoroughly enjoyable Barbaresco Riserva with age. Although not a real stunner like some of the best Produttoris, this is still a fine wine that will at least keep - if not improve - for years more. A wonderful combination of tertiary Nebbiolo aromatics, ripe fruit and firm structure. Lovely stuff by all accounts.

  • Still in a very very good place after 34 years! Tannins are resolved and it is very burgundian at this point. I would not hold it any longer, but this is an incredible effort and a rarity to behold. Lovely perfume of roses and spicy red fruit, fantastic purity of fruit and maturity that just makes it all come together.

  • Acker BYO 2017 (Tribeca Grille): In a really lovely spot right now. First thing I get is cinnamon and red berries. Mostly cherry. Then some leather. A wine that felt like it was perhaps right at peak.

  • 1985 Produttori del Barbaresco Pora. Mature Barbaresco is always a great pleasure. The colour is almost faded but still so alive, rich and precise on the palate that is holding uo precisely. Roses, mint, dried herbs. Deffinetly a great perfectly mature example.

  • Pure class. Loads of typicity. Uncorked 3-4 hours in advanced and served directly from bottle. Very, very funky initially, but the funk blew off quickly and the wine continued to open up and improve over the course of the meal. Tastes like 30 year old Barbaresco, which, after all, is exactly what it is. Drink over next 5 years.

  • This just rocked. Plenty of dark fruits on a palate this is nicely resolved structurally and texturally. Terrific thrust and power to the dark fruited palate, but the mouthfeel is rather silky and fine. Muscle wrapped in lace. Amali with Bruce, Michel and Stephen V.

  • Barbaresco (New York Vintners, NYC): Double-decanted at 11am. Appealing nose of earth, mulch and roses. Elegant, long. Fully mature, but no sign of decline. An excellent bottle and clearly WOTF.

  • The ’85 Produttori Pora Riserva was a different animal entirely from the rest of the flight. Here I found an initially restrained nose which blossomed in the glass with dark red fruits, soil, dusty coco, wood smoke, and hints of animal musk. On the palate, it was fruit-focused with rich red berry, drying out a little, yet still elegant and refined. Soil and savory herbal tones added to the experience and faded to a medium-long finish of red berry and earth tones. An absolutely beautiful wine in its maturity and still kicking with both feet.

  • Popped and aired in bottle more than one hour. Tarry notes, cooked vegetables, sous-bois on the nose. Medium bodied on the palate, delivering vibrant nicely mellowed red cherries with firm tannic grip and nice acidic backbone. Not much tertiary flavors. Drinking perfectly now. Glorious stuff.

  • interesting floral nose; (too) sweet red cherry doesn't stand up to the oak;
