Dark purple center, fading to ruby near the glass with slight bricking. Fireplace and cedar on the nose. Decanted 30 minutes. Savory and earthy notes, with slightly faded prunish dark fruits and gobs of minerals. Lacks vibrancy. Flavors are interesting but I wouldn't call them delicious. Drink soon.

Pungoed a glass last night with very low expectations and low and behold was actually quite intriguing - so much so I thought about it all day today in anticipation of digging into rest of the bottle tonight. High toned, red cherry and mineral on nose. Very soft with more red fruits and mineral, which lasts a substantially long time on palate. With time develops some earth and a bit of bitter herbs. A blockbuster wine? No but not bad for an entry level CDP from a scorching hot year.

Softer than last bottle, rounded with no hard edges. Nice, silky, maturing fruit. A bit warm with some heat from the alcohol but that fades with food on the table. Really quite nice, better than expected. Perhaps the 2007s are coming round?

Cork pulled well and no infiltration. Had expectations that first sip would be the metallic tang of the grenache grape and that didn't occur. It was more balanced with another variety, either that or the added aging had mellowed the grenache. I had the sensation of high alcohol without actually detecting it. But I tell you what. I never had a wine hold on the line like this one. I drank this the next day and the flavors seemed to come out, and i had a small glass each consecutive evening for five nights...and the wine never lost a step. I was impressed. When I first tried in 2013 I had reservations that it would get better. I think it has, but it's only apparent after a day or so opened. It is not a steamroller wine by any means, but the different flavors and nuances of the aged blend make an interesting drink. One left and lets see if it's a long distance runner.

Surprisingly careful but very deep nose with layers of red fruit containing soft cherries and raspberries. There are also under vegetation, notes of medicine cabinet and dark minerals. The palate is not at all as fruity and instead dark minerals, stone and a rather harsh acidity takes over. There is also a very distinct herbal note from menthol. The finish is long but quite bitter. This wine has an intriguing nose but the palate and finish does not live up to the positive start.

After aging a couple years this has smoothed out considerably. Still a primary wine with ripe fruit and integrated sweet oak. I don't expect it to develop any secondary flavors and the alcohol comes out after being open a day or two.

Slow-oxed it for more than two hours before the fruit started showing. On the nose, bright red fruit. It is not without heat lurking though. Similar notes on the palate. It got increasingly peppery as the wine opened up. Tannins is soft and finish is a little lacking. One dimensional and nevertheless a good food wine.

Pale brick red. Has a developed hue. Ripe red fruit, dominated by earthy, gamey notes, a bright candied fruit character. Verging on a bandaid chemical smell. Soft and smooth, very little tannin. Quite developed, a very rich earthy flavour, meaty, secondary, with fruit a minor player. Tiring to drink despite its softness.

Harsh, dry and dusty on opening but after a few hours rich and silky with lovely fruit. Low tannin. A bit warmish and sort of single minded: not the most complex of wines, but very enjoyable nontheless.

In retrospect, what an unbelievable bargain. This is just a fantastic wine, drinking so well now. Rich and full with lots of nice back fruit on the nose and palate, but with just the right amount of softness around the edges. I only wish I had bought a lot more than two bottles.

It seemed like time to check in again. On opening, lots of young Grenache character with bright tangy red berries on the palette. Decanted a few hours which allowed glossy blue spectrum fruits and some nice complexity and mineral quality to come through. In the end nicely balanced, classy but not stodgy, finishes with some nice complexity (I got a hint of Indian restaurant candied fennel). No rush to drink up, no need to wait.
Wow! Better than expected. A very together, creamy wine. Incredible spice - I instantly thought of space dust when tasting it, odd as that might perhaps seem. Very good length. First of case - pleased to have 11 to go.

Dark plums on the nose. The palate adds to the fruit a certain minerality that reminds me of slate stone. The finish is well balanced, managin to contain de heavy 15.7% alcohol with fine tannins and good acidity. Very nice!

9/29/13-Not much on the nose but very smooth and well balanced. was expecting more like other CdP wines, which have been metallic or bright from the granache, but not this one. Really good, nothing harsh or sharp on this wine. Sediment in the last glasses. Drinking well right now and hard to imagine will get better, as the smoothness and balance are just about perfect. Garagiste Rimmermann said it might outperform their top wine La Crau and it may just be a step behind. Not fruit forward but with balance like this makes for a good drinking experience. Will age my other two bottles for another five years or more, but drinking well right now and hard to imagine how it would improve. A solid 92. Recommended.

Dark purple red color. Black fruits on the nose. Lots of blackberry and pepper. Very ripe. On the palate spicy with ripe black fruits. Slightly meaty. Full bodied with high alcohol. High acid and fine tannins but balanced with full fruit on the palate. Not cloying while stile concentrated. Medium to long finish.

Agree with earlier reviewer that its a touch cloudy but doesnt distract or detract from nose and taste. Very rich and berry but with real spice and an enormous length for such a slight and smooth mouth feel wine. Drunk with a Cumin laced Moroccan Meat ball dish and matched perfectly. Dont leave beyond 2014 would be my guess.

Opaque core with some garnet around the rim. Drank over two days. The constant is the powerful, expressive nose which shows a mix of red berries and black pepper. The first day, the fruit is on display, black and red berries. Elegant and opulent in the mouth. The second day sees the pepper and dried herbs emerge, along with a more dense expression of the blackberry character. Pillowy soft tannins add an additional layer. A bit dry on the finish.

This wine is drinking perfectly right now exhibiting very typical tones of garrigue, wet hay and mature dark fruits, strawberries and raspberries. The palate is medium-bodied but very integrated and all components in place. The oak is very elegantly added to this effort, sublte yet evident. The length on the finish is about 40+ seconds. The overall impression is very good, this wine has for certain developed nicely over the last two years. It has quite a few more years to go in the cellar, but I am not sure there will be more complexity added. (score is 91-92)

Deep clear royal red. Brisk, if that can be said of a red wine, with red fruit in abundance- cherry, strawberry, raspberry. Very juicy, with little smoke and spice but plenty of acidity creating the "briskness". Medium finish turning a tad sweeter on the finish. Surprisingly closed on the nose.

(Blind tasting) red-purple color with amber rim pleasant floral-ripe cherries aroma with some spices smooth, elegant, feminine, soft tannin, balanced, harmonious, long after taste, typical soft Grenache. Ready to drink. Seems like a much older wine as it's ripe and ready.

From 375ml, drank after some pinot noir, alone with no food. pop and pour. Spice and dark and red fruit aromas. Very nice palate with some complexity that mirrors the nose, spice, fruit, smooth tannins. Nice medium finish. Compared to bottles consumed in late 2010 and early 2011 this was more open and did not show the heat those did.

Drinking very nicely tonight. This is indeed a lovely effort from the Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe, but a little more subtle, a little more light bodied, but still exploding from dark fruits and garrigue.. The palate is truly pleasant and lasts some 40 seconds. With pleasant acidity it also pairs well to food. The tannins are there but have toned down since I last tasted this wine in early 2010. I love to see how these 2007s are developing and I am confident the 2007 Télégramme has several years ahead of it.

The wine is the color of venous blood. Upon opening I got a bit of wet corn husk and black liquorice, which is mirrored in the taste. The wine is a bit sweeter than a normal CDP, and the normal forest floor or wet leaves was not present because of this faint sweetness. Most of what I got was in the mid-palette.
Not much tannin, but enough, and the acidity is well in check.
I set down the glass in order to wait for it to breath and walked away. About 45 seconds later, I noticed I still had an after taste of black liquorice, which was very pleasant. Maybe some eucalyptus and at one point I got a hit of cinnamon.
About 20 minutes later, I tried it again but the wine got a little one dimensional. It could stand on its own, without food, but frankly I paired it with pizza after giving it about an hour to shine on its own. Not very complex, but nice. Perhaps it would have opened up after more time, but I think it may have turned medicinal.
From a 375 ml that was perfectly stored.

WOW. I figured this would still be way too tight to drink, but I'll grab this too early just for a peek at what La Crau might hold... Yes, I had to scrape the tannins from my teeth, but given that it is only 4 years old, this was drinking very very well. Deep Purple, plenty of licorice on nose. All dark fruit palate. Certainly not a first bottling quality that I expect from its big brother, but for $35 price, this is awesome. '07 is living up to expectations... Can't wait to start killing off the big boys..
Great intensity and layers of flavor. As it warmed from cellar to room temperature the alcohol did become more apparent. Other than that, my worries about it being too young to enjoy seem unfounded. That said, it's in no danger of being over the hill! A big wine to enjoy now and seems to have the guts for a few years down the road too.

Hmm, I loved this the first time I had it, but perhaps I have been drinking too much good wine lately, as this bottle was only very good. Not quite as open as previous bottles with blackberry and vanilla and a medium length finish. This half bottle also threw quite a bit of sediment.

Going from memory a week later, so not a detailed note. This wine was very nice, with mild red fruit, but not as explosive, big, or rich as I anticipated. Quite light-bodied like an inexpensive cotes du rhone. More floral with tea and cinnamon than the rich CdP style...particularly for this vintage. I wouldn't buy again for this price.

T-day 2010 at the 'rents: This wine is not ready at all! Needs at least another 2-5 years. Very big heavy CDP- 1st 3 hours was olives, meat and black tea with some heat. About 5 hours later the fruit started to show up with some other spices and IMHO the wine started to show and improve- little red fruits started to show. Good amount of layers and decently complex. With time this wine can improve 3-4 points.

This wine drinks beautifully now. Extremely fragrant, full, fresh nose just explodes out of the glass. Candied figs, herbs, hints of oak and loads of black fruit. The wine is elegant and pure on thepallet with seamless transitions from front to back, and along, delicious finish. The wine is simply delicious. This wine, out of several stunners on offer, was absolutely the wine of the night. I contacted the importer and was delighted to discover that they still have some available. An absolute steal at under forty dollars and a must buy for CNDP fans.

Intersting that I had absolutely loved the previous bottles of this heavy-hitter. Today, after a nicely balanced value-Bordeaux, Telegramme seemed totally out of balance: all weight, no subtlety, and not much character.

Tested on a well-aired bottle, about 70 deg F. Alluring nose of spice, dark fruit, floral, and earth, in excellent balance and expression. Lively acid on the attack, dark fruit (plums or prunes?, blackberry, other) somewhat in the background with meaty and spicy notes. Finishes of same elements with extra wood. Dryish. Body medium, acid medium, tannin medium. 90% grenache, 10% mourvedre.

my first chateauneuf-du-pape: i liked it! aromatically, a lovely weave of flowers and spice plus something tantalizingly beasty. then, to drink, the beast is delicious, tossed with olives and something earthy, held together with subtle layers of red fruit. just a bit less hedonistic than that all makes it sound.

Classic CNDP. Spiciness understated. Nice high tones, good low tones, missing a little bit of stuffing in the middle. Would recommend drinking this over the next 2-4 years, still in need of a little integration.

Seriously good example of textbook châteauneuf character. Sure, the alcohol is high (15,8), but it is wound right into the very core of the long, generous taste, and it doesn't burn. A wine to sip rather than drink. And as the price is favorable, we'll definitely buy some more.

Characteristic CDP style. Powerful stuff. Lot of alcohol, but rich taste with well integrated tannins and nicely balanced. Dark fruit, prunes, herbs, meat, some oak, tastes a bit "old". Aftertaste quite short, but makes you want more. Perhaps not among the great wines from this area but a nice wine with good PQR

Drinking very well right now. Compared to Vieux Télégraphe this wine is a bit more subtle and "toned down", but still very nice. Coming from younger vines the Télégramme reveals a cascade of mature red berries, silky tannins and a very pleasant finish lasting for some 30 seconds or more. Impressive effort combining the best of the old and new world philosophies (if one should ever talk about such dicotomies...).

More 2007 Southern Rhones (Various Locations, SF Bay Area): Medium ruby with paler edge. Attractive raspberry fruit. Pleasing lighter texture with a good interplay of the red fruit and mint. Nice finish. Very accessible now. Perfect foil for the Vieux Telegraphe from this vintage; very high quality second wine which should provide plenty of enjoyment while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop.

A nice CNdP. Of course there is some branding in this baby brother of Vieux Télégraphe but who cares? Dark colour, black pepperish and lots of fruit. Balanced tannins and a very peculiar but endearing scent of orange zest. First time I have experienced this in a CNdP. Medium finish.

what a beauty, and hard to imagine this is the 2nd label! This is definitely screaming Rhone Granache: gorgeous fruit, impeccably balanced, oodles of flavor. If this is what a moderately priced, easy drinking 2007 Chateauneuf tastes like, this vintage is a good as they say. It's a very Grenache-heavy wine with sweet, rich ripe blackberry and stone-fruit. it's also well-balanced. This is a good buy and drinking well now.
