Cork broke (with an Ah So) but I was able to remove the remaining piece without issue. Pleasant on the nose but lacking significant, discernable odors. Velvety smooth on palate with gobs of black fruit, spice and chocolate. Tannins resolved. If scoring 92-94. I suspect it has a few years to go without additional improvement.

Not tannic. Maybe it is at or slightly past peak. It was best in the 1st 30-60 mins of opening (left in the bottle-cork sometimes in and sometimes out). Lots of Blue, Black fruit. Significant Sediment, so best left upright 24 hours before opening.

Method: tasted blind; 63 degrees; Cab Sauv glass; likely decanted a good amount beforehand, but I don't know how long
Look: deep ruby; many medium-slow speed legs; color staining glass
Nose: ripe/jammy raspberry and black berry, milk chocolate, slight spice (five spice?); very expressive
Palate: raspberry, blackberry, chocolate, very light green/herbal note; long finish of pencil lead, leather, mineral, and bit of pepper; dry; full body; high- tannin; medium+ acidity
Overall thoughts: A lot of stuffing (more than I'd like currently), but a lot of great, concentrated flavor under it. Wonderful full body and tannins smoothed out on day 3 to create a wonderful viscous, silky mouthfeel, but still has enough acidity to balance it out. I'm not a good blind taster, but it had the stuffing and concentrated primary notes to make me think is was a 2015. Great wine and I think it still had a lot of upside.

Pitch-dark ruby-black color. Thick, viscous, and full bodied on the palate. Dark black and blue berries on nose and palate. This already has 12 years of bottle age - - can age more if you like, but certainly drinking extremely well now. Awesome wine!

Fantastic wine. Dark purple color, almost black. Nose was very open upon popping the cork (which crumbled a bit) with menthol, tar, dark jammy berry. Palate was surprisingly smooth for a 15.2% alcohol wine. Very nicely integrated. Again deep dark berry flavors with tar, menthol, maybe a little forest floor / wet leaves.

Muted blackberry and black plum on the nose with a slight hint of black pepper. Similar on the palate with black raspberry replacing the black plum I got on the nose. The wine had a medium to long finish with a slight tannic bite on the backside. I tasted this side by side with the 2005 Hayne PS. The 06 was much less fruit forward and much more balanced than the 05 in my opinion and was my personal favorite between the two.

4th Saturday group uptown tasting (R&C's): Notes of pepper and dark fruit- blackberry and plum. More spice than the 2005. Loads of blackberry and dark fruit on the palate with a slightly rustic quality. I have a slight preference for the jammy exuberance of the 2005 by comparison. This too had been double decanted off its sediment a little over three hours before being served with dinner.

(Tasted at the Turley Pickup Party) Proof that laying down these Petite Syrahs for a decade or more offers big benefits. Still a bruiser, but has become more integrated. Tannins still make themselves known on the palate, suggesting this will age longer. However, don't wait too long or the fruit might start to drop out. (= Worth Seeking Out)

Tons of sediment in a surprisingly approachable with briar and alcohol with deep fir forest on the nez. Chewy raspberry, cocoa and bitter chocolate notes. Very good for PS, although not a $75 wine. The Haynes rarely justify the cost.

Enjoyed at the Rhode Island shore with family. Chilled and let it breathe for about 2 hours. Went well with filet dinner. Big bold petite with a lot of character, complexity, balance, and flavor. Charcoal, volcanic rock, and red raspberry in both the nose and in the taste. Long aftertaste. To all who have this wine, it is only getting better with age. I think I will pop my next bottle in about 6 years.

Inky dark red to purple color. Nose of blueberry pie, raspberry pie, plum pudding, a hint of creme de menthe, and big oak. Ridiculous texture, huge, viscous and creamy. On the palate spiced plum pudding, blueberry pie, cola, cloves and dark baking spices, black pepper, licorice and more spices. Young and delicious. Should develop over the next 10+ years at least, but nothing wrong with drinking one now.

Decanted 75 minutes- massive wine- I disagree with previous reviews- this is drinking great now- I do agree this could last another 20 years- dark cherry cola color- bold and complex- a tiny tiny hint of heat up front with a medium finish- surprisingly does not linger...- good value if you bought like me when offered by vineyard. This reminded me of a toned down 05 Elderton Shiraz Command.

Deep, brambly, smoky, cigar box nose. Very ripe but not pruned. Raspberry, oak, black pepper and a good tannin and acid background. However, although this is good, it was seriously overpriced at $80. Ready to drink now but has some time to allow the tannins to integrate.

This wine is completely overwhelmed by the tannins at the moment. Hints of blue fruit but little else and the tannins clamp down hard on the finish ... the question is, will this wine ever reach balance before it drys out as I would predict at least 10 years before trying this again.

This baby smacks the cheeks. Yes, way too young. That is what they said when I got married, yet she was a gem. How do you know what young tastes like unless tried? Here we are, back in college, time to get an education. A virgin but this time, legal. If you have more than one bottle of this, pop her cork. Take a sip, revel in the tight pucker. Then let her sit for a couple of hours... or days... and open a Zin. After finishing the Zin (hopefully in the same night) go back to this. Not so immature after all is she?
At the Wedding at Cana (John 2:1-11 ) we learn it was time to depart from the custom of serving the best wine first by serving it last (John 2:6-10). Finally a reason to trust in the Lord. Let this wine sit and serve it last. But serve it. Your guest will call you the messiah.

An accidental open, but a nice peek nonetheless. Ironically, the least aggresive of the 06's so far. Alludes to graphite, raspberry and dried apricot, but takes some coaxing. I wouldn't recommend an intentional open for a couple of years. Surprisingly soft, and graceful for both Turley, and the variety. Doesn't seem to be of the Durif/peloursian variety though - this is less rustic, more refined. Very astringent, but the tannin is devoid of texture or tactile sensation. Juicy and fresh. Nice length, and most enjoyable with a few hours of air.

My father in law accidentally opened this, thinking he had grabbed a "regular" Turley zin. I saved half the bottle in a 375 and repoured 4 days later, drank after aerating for 24 hours.
Obviously still a baby, but a brutish one. Purple ink, almost black. Nose of scorched earth and blackberries. Tightly wound, but still giving up some black fruit, graphite and spice on the palate. Dense and brooding but not overly tannic. Glas I have 2 more bottles and will rty another one young- say in 3 or 4 years.

Beautifully balanced. Ripe and jammy, but perfectly integrated tannins and oak.

Big in color and flavor. Smooth mouthful of reb and black fruits with well balanced fruit andacid. Some earth but fruit dominates the palate. Greatly enjoyed by all present and lovely with the duck.

Dark and brooding but lacking the intensity of better vintages. Softer tannins then surrounding years and tons of tart black berry fruit.

Paso Tasting Day: Intense wine with tons of tannins and really dark and inky. Nice fruits in there and complexity is there - needs 3-5 more years.

Big fruit, soft tannins, and smooth. Very nice.

This wine is completely overwhelmed by the tannins at the moment. Hints of blue fruit but little else and the tannins clamp down hard on the finish ... the question is, will this wine ever reach balance before it drys out as I would predict at least 10 years before trying this again.

Tasting room pour. Blue fruit, black peppercorn, cassis notes on the nose. The palate adds notes of mineral, apple, and darker fruit. Beautifully balanced depth, with long peppery spice tannins. Excellent.

Wow! Amazing juice. Intense raspberry on the nose, with hints of black licorice and chocolate. Very fruit forward and juicy, with soft tannins and rich mouth feel. Quite tasty...if red berries and gobs of fruit are your thing. Not the most complex wine, but points for pure deliciousness.

deep purple, opaque;(5)
aromatics were mute;(10)
lush blackberry fruit forward but enough balance (acidity, tannin and mouth feel) to not feel like a fruit bomb.(18)
obviously it can keep but I enjoyed this now (8);
5+10+18+8=91 now but it will move up as the aromatics come forward
I will revisit this after 24 hours
