Dark opaque red color with a hint of blood orange-red at the rim. Initial nose of black fruit without the benefit of time in the glass-relinquished bouquet. Rich silky mouthfeel with supple flavor of luscious fruit stored in tight grained French oak that was previously soaked in vanilla. Watching Dunkirk and looking forward to sirloin steaks and drinking this delicious beauty tonight. Flavors extend throughout the complete palate with a sweet vanilla component lingering as the hedonistic fruit eventually becomes a sweet memory. Perfection. Second night: Sweet, smooth and delicious, wishing this bottle had been a magnum.

At fourteen years, this was starting to show its age and was losing its fruit, giving way to non-fruit character of green pepper, leather, wet wood, earth and hints of cedar and floral.
At the time of purchase $20 seemed like a lot for a red blend but ten years later it’s a screaming deal for a wine that has aged quite well. A smooth entry and full integration of flavors even though the fruit has faded. Some tannins, cocoa powder, plum and mild spice. Comparable to a mid-range BDX of the same vintage. Cork was starting to disintegrate but held together enough for full extraction.

At a dozen years of age, this vintage is perhaps at its apex, not likely to improve further with any aging.
This was blackish dark garnet colored, medium full-body, moderate structure, predominant black fruits, cherry and plum accented by notes of charcoal, hints of creosote, spice, herb and mineral on the finish.
Ooooh weee! This bottle was quite different from the last couple that I've had of this particular vintage and variety. Upon attempting to open the bottle the cork ripped in half with minimal effort. Then I had to push through the bottom of the half of the cork remaining in the bottle in order to remove it. This left a significant amount of cork dust around the top inner rim of the bottle. After that I poured the wine, while trying to avoid the dust, through a screen that was attached to the top of a Vinturi aerator and into a Savino. This particular bottle was delicious and dry and still had a decent amount of tannins, unlike the previous bottles I have had the pleasure of drinking. The previous bottles were good, but this one was much better. I had one glass on the first night and finished the bottle on the second. Now I wish I had more. Maybe aerating first really helped it open up?

This was good, but I doubt it has a few years left as stated in some other reviews I read. It was gifted to me so not sure how it was cellared, but there aren't any tannins left and it had that bit of bland taste that comes with a wine that's past its prime. Still overall I enjoyed drinking it. My advice is not to wait longer if you have any.

At 11 years old, an impressive no flaws lineup of virtues: opaque, aromatic, smooth, fruity, delicious, refreshing, and long. Compared to the younger versions, the 2005 is more caressing, integrated, and seamless. Aging beautifully, no deterioration, at a peak of enjoyability, and has ample acidity, tannin, and fruit to readily last at least 3 more years.

I have to be honest. I've loved Tapestry since it was a $14 bottle of wine years ago and after having either a 95 or 96 I fell in love. This is one of my favorite wines, it has everything I love. It's big and bold and in your face. No apologies. Lots of funk stuck to the inside of the bottle and lots of flavor. It's dark berries, leather, tobacco, earth, mushrooms...all I want in a wine.
Careful pairing with food, you need big steak or dark chocolate with this one...or dark fruits. Pairs great with blackberries...

Deep purple color. Very pleasant nose with some caramel, some berry fruit. Very mellow entry on the tongue. Fair amount of rich fruit—blackberry, prune. As the wine passes back, fruitiness declines. Some earthiness, some hint of cinnamon or clove. Tannins are fully resolved. Another easy-to-drink wine. Better than average, but not great.

Deep garnet color with no signs of bricking. Light, fruity nose. Elegant layered and complex on the palate with raspberry, blackberry, cassis, clove and a bit of smoke and cigar box. Refined and plenty of life left although I don't know how this can get much better.

Very refined and completely resolved. I'm curious as to the %'s of the varietals (cab sauv, merlot, malbec, cab franc, etc.) b/c the melange is parfait. Lots of fruit; minimal tannic acid. After one hour in a carafe, there were tastes of smoke, chocolate and cigar tobacco. Very refined and pleasurable wine. The nose seemed more like a typical cab nose (cedar etc). The taste is like a high-end bordeaux (a mature St. Julien, par example). The wine looks inky colored. The legs are slow. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like forest floor and cedar. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity.

Consistent notes from last bottle in April, but this one held up much better over the course of the evening, keeping structure but also bringing a variety of new aromas and flavors: black cherries, earthy funk, candied raspberries and strawberries, leather, herbs, and hints of tobacco. Great milk chocolate on the palate and into the finish, where the tannins were refined but more pronounced than our last bottle. Around its peak, so drink now - 2016.

As I was opening this wine, I messed up the cork. I took out an aerator and poured the wine through the aerator and into a decanter. This wine is quite good. Last night I tasted a heavy dose of pepper and spices. The fruit seems to be blocked at this time. There was also a small amount of "Rutherford Dust." I have one bottle left and a few magnums. I believe the magnums will last for 20 years. I can't tell you how many good bottles of BV Tapestry that I have had from the '98 and '00 vintage (off-vintages) that tasted great at 10 or 12 years old. The '05 vintage was a pretty good one, so drink or hold.

Opened and decanted 1 hour before dinner of gourmet comfort food at North Forty-Eight in Victoria, BC. Inky, dark black color. Nose brings pencil lead, blueberries, coffee, toffee, some subtle funky earth, and dried herbs. The full-bodied palate is smooth, round and full, but brings a nice finesse to some blackberries, black currant, dark cherries, milk chocolate, leather, and blueberry pie baking spices. The tannins feel perfectly integrated and the acidity seems on the ebb. I'd drink this now, probably at or just past peak. Just reading previous review, I agree the fruit has faded slightly from past bottles, but still very good.

Very dark red-purple color. Aerated into glasses, drank 2 glasses over 2 hours. The nose shows some deep and pungent earth, dark fruits of cassis, blackberry and a hint of blue fruit, coffee, and graphite. The palate has nice body, layered, black fruits, cassis and blackberry, bramble, graphite, chocolate, and a medium plus finish. with silky tannins This evolved nicely over the 4 years since I last had it. Probably at peak and can go for several years.

I was concerned after reading the "drink between" dates, however I am happy to report that the 2005 BV Tapestry still drinks exceptionally well on December 15th, 2013. Not to worry. I think it will continue to drink well for at least several more years. It has a wonderful fruity nose, well integrated structure with obvious hints of cherry and berries. The finish is smooth. I would decant and/or use an aerator.

Cards with Ken and Kelly (Our house, Kennett square, PA): After the older Mazzacco Matrix and Faugeres, I didn't enjoy this as much. This showed riper, hotter and less complex. I never comment on "legs", but this one sure had them. Black fruits, spice, slight mint and vanilla. A little hot and simple though in comparison.

I drank my first of these three years ago and the wine was not ready. Well folks she is open for business now. PaP. Beautiful ink garnet. On the nose black cherry, fig, dark fruits, graphite, light floral, and "new car". Flavors of dark fruit, spice and tar. The wine is nicely balanced with a long finish. Happy to have a few more.

Based on notes below (and personal experience), there seems to be significant bottle variation with this juice...luckily my bottle was in rare form and exceeded the expectation that my prior few bottles had set. Regardless of the recommended drinking window, this seems to have years of stuffing left...

Medium red color. Not much on the nose, maybe a bit earthy and musty. Drinkable but not great. There must be something about 2005. Drank this and a 2005 Freemark Abbey Napa a few days apart. Felt the same way about the Freemark. 2005 is highly rated but I haven't seen it yet. These are supposed to be at the end of the drinking window but I wonder if they need more time.

Musty, moldy flavors that are common in California and European reds to my palate. A peculiarity of my anatomy that made this undrinkable for me. I could sense a well-made wine in there, and my fellow drinkers enjoyed the wine.

(Cork broke in two and there were a lot of tartaric acid crystals on the cork as others have seen. I think it is just lack of cold stabilization, the bottle didn't appear cooked and the ullage was good). Wasn't expecting a lot with this one. But on the nose and palate, this was amazing. An inky, purplish garnet, slightly cloudy, the nose was very soft with complexity and slight oak and no heat, a nice fruitiness, and everything seemed in balance. The palate was smooth and had nice roundness with plush, soft tannins. The finish was seamless, medium-long and merlot-like but slightly peppery with a fruity sour cherry ending. As it came up from cellar temperature, the oak started poking through a little more, but so did the spanish cedar and leather. Still no out of step heat, but definitely a Napa cab. I prefer this slightly cooler(!) Strangely, the nose lost these characteristics shortly after opening, but the palate held together.

I had this at the Cornerstone Restaurant in Sun Valley, Idaho. The service at the restaurant was truly awful, so I should have known better than to trust the server on this one, but I found this wine to be watery, flat, devoid of fruit, and to lack vibrancy or life. It was as light as a light rose on the palate, and had very little flavor. I cannot recommend either the restaurant or the wine.

Rich, soft, plush Napa cab made in the modern style. Tasted more in tune of a cab from the 04 vintage. Must've been a hefty dollop of merlot in this year's blend. Pleasant.

Inky purple in color---humongous legs--still heavy tannins but what a balanced, complex experience in the mouth! Earthy, medium, heavy, yet subtle grape skins, mushrooms, dust, and dark, almost spoiled cherries. This is a superb wine which will be better in the next couple decades.

Opened up a magnum on Saturday, December 18 and I thought the wine needed to gain some weight. I was surprised b/c I recently had a magnum of the 2005 BV Napa Valley and I thought it tasted great. Back to the Tapestry. It was smooth with some fruit and tobacco, but I just thought the wine tasted thin. I had it again on Sunday, December 19 and I thought it tasted better. I was definitely surprised given how good the 05 BV Napa Valley tasted. I also recently had a bottle of the 05 BV GDL and I thought that tasted really good. I have 5 more magnums of this wine so I will probably sit on them for another year or two.

Summary: A good wine, with smooth, juicy tannins and a lot going for it, but balance ultimately let down by overtly hot alcohol. Although the oak was also borderline high, it was actually quite tasty.
Eye: Dark ruby, dark core. Huge legs that just sat on the sides of the glass for an eternity.
Palate: Lots of black fruit and oak, which, as above, was heavy on back of palate, but quite tasty, perhaps peppery also, not so much burnt. Too much alcohol heat upsets balance on the way down. Smooth juicy tannins help bring the score back up a bit.
Finish: Long and tasty.
After an hour in glass, the alcohol heat had not subsided at all. After 2 hours in glass, was more coherent, thanks to evaporation.
Had at Ruth's Chris with Blue Cheese Lettuce Wedge and Petit Filet.

Like other TNs below, this bottle had crystals on the cork (?!?!?!). The bottle didn't taste "off", but it certainly wasn't the best showing this wine has had. I won't score it tonight since it may have been flawed, but I would still give it an 88-89 based on enjoyability.

Crystals on cork as well. Tight on pouring glass so I let it breath in the glass. At 30 minutes it had nice aromas of black fruits and cedar and (?) violets but on tasting seemed still disjointed with lots of alcohol heat, oak, and some bitter chocolate/tar. 30 minutes and 1 hour later, still the same. Not a smooth finish.

Restaurant bottle - very tight on opening so we asked for a decant. From there the wine opened up a bit but was still a bit of a disappointment. simple fruit flavors and (oddly, given the other TNs on here) none of the oak/vanilla/spice type notes that distinguish wine from fruit juice spiked with alcohol. BTW, like a prior taster, our bottle showed crystals on the cork as well.

A ton of fruit forward. Decanted for an hour and it was still hard to enjoy with the amount of heat from the alcohol. Over the next several hours the heat came down quite a bit but still it was the major player. I had high hopes for this bottle and was disappointed that it wasn't balanced better. It certainly tasted like all the components of a quality wine made it into the bottle but somewhere in the process things just went wrong.

Despite having a positive bias to this wine (given prior experiences with older vintages), there seemingly was something out of sync with this wine...possibly too much fruit upfront which overwhelmed most everything else - will wait a few years and give it another try.

Crystals on the cork. May have been frozen during distribution. Wine did not stand up to my tasting at the wine dinner that led me to make this purchase which I rated in my mind at 90 -91. Will need to try another bottle to make a firm rating.

My oh my how my tastes have changed...I can't believe I gave this wine 92pts just 6 months ago. Oak, oak, and more oak. Decanted for an hour, but there was still a bit too much heat and I don't think time will solve this issue. In the end, it's still a fine bottle of wine...but not what I was expecting. 87pts.
*edit* 2 hours later and the oak has subsided oh so slightly. It's now a more balanced wine that justifies a slightly higher rating. Apparently this wine has a bit of life left in it after all...it just needed a bit of time.

This bottle may have been a bit off. The nose upon decanting was pure peppermint... like one of those after dinner mints you get at restaurants, the red and white swirly ones. After about an hour that calmed down and there was leather with a touch of sweetness. Dry on the palate in a weird way. It tasted like a mediocre Cali Cab aged about 10 years. NR

Decanted for 3 hours, paired with champagne risotto and roasted rack of lamb. The wine was an excellent pairing with the food. On the nose the profile was very fruity, primarily dark fruit, balanced well by some nice coffee and leather notes. It was very well balanced on the palate, the tannin were well-integrated and not very dry, the finish went on for a while. Very well-built wine, excellent with food. When you can pick it up sub-$28, it's hard to find something better. I don't think it has the tannin structure to go for very long, so I'd say drink over the next 5 years tops.

Although refined and subtle in character, this wine really didn't have any characteristics that make it stand out among what I could have been drinking. I go more for wines that are complimentary to a meal but that also stand on their own, which this did not. Cork had thick layer of crystals, wine was still very dark and concentrated for a five-year-old wine.

Nice nose of sweet cherries, creamy vanilla oak, cinnamon, nutmeg and baking spices. Touches of mocha and baking chocolate are also present. lacking the depth and body I would expect from this wine. Palate is a touch thin and lacking focus. Nice tannin structure and purple fruits with toasty oak but really not coming together. rather hollow in the middle with medium body, not what I would expect at all. Nose is really nice but with no palate to match.

My first trip to Napa, Ca.; 7/9/2009-7/11/2009: Rich cabernet fruits with some charred wood and green olive making it into the picture. Great smoothness, precise and balanced. Nice light drying acids on the finish. A good drink but I would rather have the Rutherford for 12-14 dollars less.

Nose: Blackberry, raisins, tobacco, menthol, vanilla.
