  • From magnum. This is just impressive, showing the combined craft of Leitz with the beautiful '07-vintage. A powerhouse of a wine, showing all it's power both in the color (deep golden), the nose (lots of slate and petroleum as well as peach, yellow apples, tropical fruit and lime), and the mouth (full bodied attack, lots of sweet, almost dried, fruit perfectly balanced with an intense acidity), and the intense aftertaste. Again, the acidity lifts the aftertaste to another dimension. If there is any drawback here, it is perhaps that the fruit is a bit overripe. But who cares with this balance? Will keep for decades, but will probably not get much better than now.

  • My note from 9 years ago says this tasted like rocks, and it hasn't changed much on that front. It's a total mineral bomb of a wine, though I think I liked it better young when the fruit was more generous and rounder. Now it feels a touch severe and relatively one-note with lots of rocks and not a whole lot else.

  • Upon opening this has a great maturing citrus nose and it shows a lot of acidity -- incredible how these 2007s can remain backward. An hour later: a brilliant medium-bodied riesling (12.5 %) that seemed to become more and more youthful with time. "Jede Stunde, die hingeht, wird jünger", as Rilke says. Great stuff.

  • Perfumed bouquet with a lot of minerals and some honey. On the palate focused tart lemon and lime, apple, white fruits, pineapple, minerals again and a slight touch of petrol. Good concentration and great length.

  • Different than last time, at a GG 2007 tasting. Decanted one hour. Much more marked by spontaneous fermentation; apparently lighter, perhaps challenged by the food (turbot with vegetables and a salad of corn and piquillo peppers) but still full of minerals and juicy fruit. Very good, excellent acidity. -- Much more interesting the following day: less sponti, more lemon, more harmonius and lively and complex. Really good. Still young.

  • 2007 Grosses Gewächs riesling tasting (At home): GG 2007 tasting: Decanted three hours. Classic fruity riesling, full-bodied, clean and nice, but did not stand out in the company of other GGs.

  • Good grief. This tastes like Steinertal! Vividly stony and rocky, almost austere at first and tasting as if it was sculpted from a slab of marble - with a little air this really gains in richness and depth, expanding to show ripe pear, yellow fruited flavours and herbal accents around the firm mineral base while retaining fantastic acidity and a sense of clarity and freshness throughout. There's a sense of power without weight here, impressive length and perfect balance. Stunning.

  • Three German producers with AuZone (Danderyd): In the nose mineral aromas, somewhat developed, yellow apple and honey. On the palate, slightly more than medium-bodied, very present acidity and impression of mineral, slightly developed, a little spice. The most elegant of the three (in particular in the nose), but also the most slender in built and the one with the least “Auslese-like” aromas. Can definitely handle further cellaring. 91-92 p
