From magnum. Fully mature, very mellow, quite tertiary. Mainly leather with some fruit, structure quite soft now. Long amd complex. Drink up this will not last much longer.

Note: I use a scale on which 85 represents a very good wine.
Just shy of the magical 90. Fruit not strong enough to put it over that edge, but otherwise very, very good. Perfectly balanced. Any tannins fully resolved. I did not decant, and interestingly, the wine did not change demonstrably over the few hours I drank the bottle.
I see no reason to hold this any longer. Wish that I had another. (-:

Enjoyed a glass of this that a friend kindly gave me. Dark middle with a brick edge. Deep plummy nose then tapenade and black olive. The palate delivers something similar; plum fruit and savoury, smooth finish.

Quite plush and soft, light floral notes to the taste, some plum and fig, not much of a nose. Not a big wine, somewhat restrained and withdrawn, but will appeal to those who like subtlty and elegance and I'm one of those people. A bit dusty, this will start to fade if it hasn't already started to fade; worth drinking now.

This is my first time with 2001 Beausejour Duffau. From a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine offers earthy, fennel, black cherry, plum, cocoa and floral notes. Medium/full bodied, with silky tannins, there is a nice sense of minerality in the soft textured finish. This is not going to make old bones. I'd drink this before the wine celebrates its 20th birthday.

Drinking OK after 15 minutes, but after about 1 hour, the barnyard flavors had dissapated revealing fruit and liveliness, but also with the flavors of a more mature Bordeaux. My guess is that it is at peak, yet has several more years of drinking pleasure in front it. Low tannins.

K&L Bordeaux Tasting with Bill Blatch (K&L, Redwood City): Deep, opaque with a hint of bricking; great nose with red fruit, hint of ripe/rotten components, hint spices; structured but approachable tannin, a bit young; clean finish. 91+

I agree to the note of someone else mentioned below: "Classic nose of cigar box and black fruit". This was very good indeed for this level. I did not expect this positive surprise given the vintage.

Surprisingly approachable with 3 hours in the decanter. Classic nose of cigar box and black fruit. Subtle fruit on the palate with silky texture that created a very elegant mouthfeel. No heavyweight to be sure, but a great value in this market.

STG Does 2001 Bordeaux (Susan's house): The nose was fairly faint but it did offer some dark fruit. The palate was more open with sweet, smoky fruit, great balance, and structure. This wine showed a strange soapy, medicinal element on the finish. It wasn't my glass, as Roy found it as well. This wine would have earned a far better score without that finish. 91??+?

It ages well. A bit thin on the nose and palate.

The Arts Club Version of the 1976 Judgement of Paris, With Steven Spurrier (The Arts Club, London): Not decanted and strictly speaking not needed. Good wine, round, good ripe fruit, soft , no way overdone. Could have used a bit more of an expressive character especially on the nose but it will not disappoint. Drink sooner than later we believe.

this is disappointing. Not much of a smell at all in the nose. Thin on the pallet. Some fruit, no flesh and bones. I don't see much potential

Pretty red fruit on the nose with some mushroom. Nice texture but seemed a little thin. Medium finish. Very straightforward wine. Enjoyable.

Don't know why, but I expected more from this wine. Somewhat sharp attack, short finish, not enough finesse but plenty of fruit and almost too syrupy.

The STG and Me take on 2001 Bordeaux (Susan's House, Seattle, WA): Tastes more advanced than the others in this flight. A touch of decay on the nose. On the palate, some tree bark. This wine comes across as lacking structure, but it may just be closed.
