very nice for a BIG Napa mountain fruit cab, served to my step-dad of 36 years cuz I know he likes his wine big, this did the trick in style, big in your face fruit, decent acidity for balance, color was dark, dark purple... I liked it pretty well which, given my aversion to BIG wines and in your face cabs was a statement on the quality

At the ranch with family. Kept its age well but seems to be nearing the “oth” stage. Smooth tannins and has that great Napa 11 year old cab nose. Favored over a $200 2012 Napa Cab.

Drink up, time is ticking. But nonetheless, it's performing very well as the tannins have grown soft and supple. The nose gives off a faint scent of flowers and cedar. The acidity is still very good and the dominant taste is cherry and cassis.

Wow, has this wine evolved into a real gem. Very nice notes of mocha, mint, cassis and red figs. Great complexity combined with layers of ripe red fruit, licorice, raisins, figs and chocolate.

Well, waiting has paid off. The wine is really singing now and it's time to drink. This Spring Mountain beauty is pleasurable just looking at it: dark garnet. The nose has a perfume of flowers (jasmine or plumeria). But then drink - tannins are soft but not weak. Acidity is pleasant. And the taste is jammy dark fruit with a leather and pepper finish. Well made.

Aging gracefully at age 9. Deep purple with no sediment. Cherry, spice, blackberry and licorice. Lovely layers and palate coating charm.
If a date, this was a 32 year old blind date who shows up dressed conservatively yet hints over the entire dinner what might happen if you want it to...

Very deep dark ruby red color. Big nose right out of the bottle with layers of red figs, blackberries, toast, raisins, loam and chocolate. Well balanced with good acidity and mouthfeel. Layers of figs, toast, cassis, chocolate, licorice and mint. Wonderful wine. The others bottles in the cellar will do fine for another few years.

Nice but needs some time. Improved over the night but heavy wood. Minerals, vanilla, blackberries and coffee beans. Still tight and just needs five years in the cellar. Decanted 3 hours.

Napa Cabs/Bordeaux Blends with 2002 Insignia and Vertical of Anderson's Conn Valley Eloge (Jan's Place, St. Paul, MN): Very dark red purple color. Unknown decant. Followed one glass over 2+ hrs. The nose shows blueberry, herbal, black currant, subtle earth, oak. The palate is a somewhat leaner, higher acids, a bit green edged, tasted oak, black fruits, some alcohol that mostly blows off. Spicy and medium finish, This may improve, but I am concerned by the herbal quality and the green tannins. It was definitely better 2 hours into the tasting, but not a wine I would recommend at this point. 88-89pts.

others may score this higher but it isn't my style / doesnt give me the sherwin estate experience i'm used to... nose is nice, big red fruit and some oak (but not obtrusive), also something else - can't tell if medicinal or herbs, but definitely 'hot' on the nose, tiff noticed hot and pruney nose... palate is big fruit - cherry and prunes - and hot too, the herb element is out or again is it medicine... i bet others would like this wine as it is rich but not my favorite Shrwn Fam Estate (too big, too alcoholic... might it settle after a number of years?), also no tannins / bite which is surprising for mountain fruit... hmmm

Needs more time on the shelf or decant for at least four hours. We did not do it justice with a two hour bottle decant. Beautiful ruby red color in the glass. Great mountain fruit in perfectly sweet tannins, but it will be better in a year or two.

Not as good as either 04 or 05. A little out of balance midpalate, a bit heavy on the alcohol and not as layered as past vintages. Very good, but not the best bottle of Sherwin I've ever had.

Needs an hour in the decanter for some initial alcohol to blow off. This is a fruit forward, very new world sort of wine, but with delicate structure.

Winery Tastings, October 2010; 10/22/2010-10/25/2010 (Mt. Veeder, Oakville, Spring Mountain, St. Helena, Calistoga, Napa): Always fantastic. Fat, rich wine with plenty of alcohol, yet it needs time in the bottle. Big, bold vanilla and dark fruit. 2 minute finish. It's the real thing, but I think it needs a few years. Definitley asked for a second pour, and Steve kindly accomodated. Awesome stuff. Score sure to go up with time.

Great nose, big sweet fruit with a huge oak presence. Needs time to integrate and hopefully the oak settles down a bit.
