USA Syrah tasting in Vino and Friends. (By JK in Maastricht): Leather, iron, dark berries, spices and some sweetness in the bouquet. On the palate a lush wine with chocolate and licorice, beautifully fresh acidity and some pleasant bitterness.

Smells like a hayloft filled with dark berries, plums, grapes, and acetone (subtle). The mouth-feel is quite silky. The initial attack is pure berry fruit, quickly followed by incredibly fresh tannins and acidity. The tannin and acid seem to be engaged in a strange battle for mouth supremacy. A lot is going on in this wine. I think I pick up some dried fruits such as fig, dates, and prunes as well. Concludes with a long dry finish featuring cocoa powder, coffee, and tea leaves. Oh, this has 15.5% alc? You'd never know. Of course, seeing as how I am a Sherry fanatic, I associate 15% alc with a delicate fino or manzanilla.

I had very high hopes for this bottle and upon opening it I thought I was going to be impressed. The nose was dark and intense with some black cherry, chocolate and licorice notes. However, the fruit on the palate has mostly fallen away and it now is in a very flat, flabby stage. It was still smooth and drinkable but fairly one dimentional. It would've probably been best 4-6 years ago.

pnp because of its age. big mistake; this needed at least 5 hours in the decanter. thick and viscous color that was the quintessential "dark and brooding" wine. i picked up a little va on the nose, but it was still loaded with ripe black cherries, burnt sugar, a little vegetation, and possibly some freshly-polished leather. the mouth was really impressive as this wine's dark fruits and spice elbowed their way into every crack and crevice. this wine was a bruiser! it did an ok job hiding its alcohol on the finish, which was long and full of blackberry-infused creme brulee, licorice, and bbq spice. as the night moved on, i actually got some sweet bbq sauce aromas. very interesting wine, but wouldn't rush out to buy more. if scoring, 91-93. this has another 10 years of prime drinking, and will probably last for another 20-25 years.

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. Nose showed red and black fruit with bell pepper. Sweet and forward, this showed much younger than I'd expect from a 14 year old Turley. Still brawny and powerful, but also reasonably balanced from start to finish.

It is hard to get a better day than today. The best ever ski day with my daughters. Pure joy on their faces. Sunshine conditions. Great runs. And then to come home to great home made chili, and popped this to warm up apres ski. I had read how good old Turley Petite Sirahs are, and had never known for sure. Ahhhhhhh. This is very, very nice. Wonderful open fruit. Wonderful rich and opulent nose. Silky plums, and a very nice long finish. This is pure heaven after a wonderful sunshine filled day skiing with my favorite two girls in the world. I agree that this is still a teenager, and will continue to improve with time. Nice underlying tannins. There is something magic here that is very difficult to define, but I don't think I've ever had this flavor profile before. There is a delicious dark berry profile that is as complex as it gets. The label on this wine was a little beat up, but inside, the wine is a gift of youth. Strangely, this wine reminded me of a very high end Italian wine. There is that magic fairy dust that you only find once on a lucky night. Heaven now watching my girls sing and dance. Life is to be enjoyed. Don't miss it.

Delicious, needs time. Primary PS flavors of black plum are complimented by touches of spice and red fruits. Not a big heavyweight as some PSs, but excellent concentration and very good balance. Bit of tannins in the finish indicate a few more years could put on some complexity.

Spectacular wine! Inky black color. Very focused, rich, delicious blackberry fruit with spice and cassis flavors, highly viscious, just beginning to open up, still very strong tannins, probably could use another 10 years of age, finish a little short. I enjoyed this wine much more than the previous one that I drunk 6 months ago. Unsure if bottle was that much better or if I just know more about what to expect from a petit syrah wine. Clearly, this wine was the best petit syrah that I've ever tasted.

Excellent with little sign of aging. Opened for about 1 hour prior to drinking, would perhaps given it an extra hour. Went very well with a Vodka Tomato Pasta with Blue cheese, and will probably pair the two again.

Started off our 10yr Anniversary week with this monster! Still dark as night, oozing raspberry syrup in color. Still powerful, rich and dense dark red fruits, aged plum/currant....smooth yet still intense. Dusty dry cocoa powder tannins, cedar spice, anise, kirsch liqueur. Has a nice dry, dark chocolate covered cherry spice finish...but, with some harshness. I'd say this could go 10 more years easily....but pretty tasty right now for someone who likes-um BIG! Great wine to start the celebration!

Soft but still excellent. Cherry, jammy nose, strong fruit and a bit earthy on palate. Very pleased it held on this long.

Dark fresh pigmentation; black fruit, roasted earth and piney notes on nose and palate which remains firmly tannic

Not particularly enjoyable. A bit medicinal. Just ok with ny steak. Don't see it improving.

Northern Rhones with Guillaume Deschamps and Richard Beeken in Seattle (Kaspar's): Over the top wine that could easily pass for an aussie. Aromas of dark sweet fruits, and cola (some complained of VA but I did not sense any.) Very massive and sweet as the wine moved across the tong. Nice BBQ wine.
