Dark and dense color. Dark aromas with cherries, smoke, leather and some oak. Massive and concentrated on the palate, with pronounced acidity. A bit extracted, but very impressive.

Subsequent notes on this wine from close to 7 years ago. Dark garnet in color with slight clearing at the edges but no bricking. Forward, attractive & fragrant nose of complex, ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of floral notes of violets & dusty/earthy notes, spices, cocoa/mocha, leather, olives, minerals, tobacco, anise, herbs & a hint of cedar. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, complex, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & mulberries with herbs, cocoa, spices & a bit of vanilla/oak in the background. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing & at 19 years of age, it is holding up quite well & should maintain its current stage of development for several additional years. However, I doubt any further development would occur from additional aging. Fill was in the lower neck; cork was clean & intact.

Decanted 5 hours, checking hourly. Never got to be a great bottle. It was good but the fruit was low and the tannins/acid were too high. No great dark cherries or cigar box or leather that I am used to in truly good expressions of BdM. Hope it was just the bottle. Stored in EuroCave since release, cork was perfect.

Out of a magnum. Popped the bottle and slow ox over two hours. Relatively modest nose of red and black fruits and leather. The palate is fully mature with light bricking. Black and red cherry, leather and olives this is quite traditional in style but a little four square. I would drink this soon as the fruit is beginning to dry out a bit.

A lovely brunelllo, drinking very well right now even on opening, though a little air brings out more detail. This is my last of 4, drunk over seven years, each one better than the last. What I've noticed is how much more complexity this has developed over the years, especially the balsamic and berry notes, and how long the finish has become. Sad to finish these off.

Very nice, traditional BdM. Pours a youthful ruby at the core with light bricking at the rim. The nose is moderate intensity with notes of forest floor, leather, balsamic, dark cherry, and rosemary. The palate is still medium plus in tannin and medium plus in acidity. The finish is medium in length repeating much of the nose. Lovely!

Drinking nicely, yet still tastes young. Plenty of black tart cherry fruit right through to a pretty long finish. Tannic and could have used some more time, but the Brunello tasting crowd just pounded it down. Must have liked it too!

I'm glad that I kept my hands off of this wine for the last four years! It has improved remarkably in the bottle: it is still very dark, with no obvious indications visually of age, but the bouquet is much more interesting than previously. There is a heady, dark, Muslim/fungus thing going on in the bouquet, and it is fascinating. Lots of underbrush too. But the whole thing stops will sort of being too bizarre. It is gorgeous on the pallet, with tannins still there but mostly of a fairly fine grained kind. Nevertheless, this is still a pretty muscular wine, it should be paired with a robust me. I give it at least another 10 years, easily it should be paired with a robust me. I give it at least another 10 years, easily come in the pool lights .

Deep dark red in color with hints if brickage on the edges. The nose is fairly tight hints of spice and stones. On the palate this is a well structured wine with still strong tannins. The flavor is a mix of black fruit, oak and tannin. Medium finish, a typical Brunello maybe just a bit too much oak.

The freshest, most vibrant bottle I've had yet. Loads of dark fruit, pronounced acidity with a medium finish. Medium body. Despite being 10 years old, this seemed like such a baby and got better with a decant. The best sip was the last. Excellent!

Pnp and had with Pizza last night with family. The two years since I popped my last bottle did wonders for this wine. I really thought it was in a good drinking spot right now. Made in a modern style, black cherry, a hint of tartness. Lost some of hte gaminess from last bottle and had a more fruitful expression. Not a lot of tannins here, but it went well with pizza, and even as a sipper by itself.
Very tasty, sad to see that it was my last bottle. It was a spook-tacular Halloween treat

Deep red, dark core. Ripe red and dark fruits with earthy spice. Lovely lifted violet floral quality. Deeply flavoured with plums and some fruitcake spice, finishing with substantial tannins. Hints of tar, rich and earthy, but not 'gamey'. Currently has just enough fruit to balance the tannins. Still a grippy finish though.

Slightly raised cork which was wet about 2/3 of the way up. Questionable handling.
Color: Garnet at the edge and ruby in the center, with a brightness to it.
Nose: A seductively perfumed nose that combines both sweet and sour cherry fruit aromas with a heady mix of earthy and herbal smells, such as tobacco, cedar, pine, and a hint of tar, as well as new suede leather. There's also a slightly volatile balsamic character, as well as a faint whiff of alcohol (which is a bit surprising given the modest 13.5% stated ABV). Oak is perceptible as well, less due to any overt oak-related smells (though there is just a touch of toast) than to the rounded, polished way everything is stitched together. WIth air, a nice savory/smoky note of charred meat emerges.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and vibrant.
Palate: At first, a strong kick of acid down the center of the tongue. Then the indeterminate tartness becomes more specifically juicy sour cherry, and finally calms down a bit to allow the secondary flavors to come through. There's a nice herbal, foresty character on the palate as well, halfway between a cigar box and the cigar itself, dusted with dried oregano. Strong but not overbearing tannic structure, though it leans a bit more to the wood-tannin side than I would like. Bone dry on the finish, leaving behind cherry fruit, faint cinammon, and tannin.
Another very enjoyable bottle. Seemed to be showing a little younger than the bottle I drank a year and a half ago, with more dominant fruit both on the nose and palate. But the overall experience was roughly the same.

This is a brambly dark wine, tongue stain-er and shrivel-er (yes that's a word) acidic though i think its a bit reserved not erupting as it should in a torrent of ruby deliciousness at this pont. its almost too dark, closed and pent up, which is interesting but not an OMG wine. Not what I'm used to but i can appreciate its apprehensiveness and modesty. For drinking sans food or with a dainty virtuous pasta I'd say. My man,,, he didnt like. but.. he is used to me.
aroma is dark and meaty but slightly closed, spicy woody herbal notes on the palate full body, med+ intensity, high acid, med/+ finish Thick Dark Brooding, hidden red juicy ripe fruit
Conc: this is not doing it for me and it may need another 10years that is fine but right now its just to big and massive

Was getting some dark red fruit with a touch of oak and tobacco in the first hour along with a touch of band aid.. but after that it just fell apart was like I was licking a beach ball with the wine inside and with a couple small holes where I could just tell what the fruit and flavors on the other side were supposed to taste like if the beach ball taste wasn't there...

Delicious! N: Dusty cellar, brambly, dark fruit. P: Dusty cellar, tobacco, dark fruit and very nicely integrated tannins with balanced acidity. F: Medium+ with great structure. This was delicious and got better with time in the glass. This paired so well with grilled pizza. 92-93.

Deep dark color. N: Dark red and black fruits, soil, black currant. P: Exploding with red fruits, black currant, tons of earth with an ever evolving flavor profile. Decanted 1 hour. F: Medium long with more of the aforementioned flavors. Balanced tannins and acidity. The structure seemed more evident with a longer decant and it continued to develop in the glass. 92+, easy.

Smells of alcohol, raisins, tar, graphite, and stone. Tastes of red berries, sweet purple fruits (dates), and had a nice balance of minerality. Unfortunately after 45 minutes it developed a chemical smell & taste which became overpowering. Until then we found it classic & delicious. Medium bodied.

Popped and slow ox'd for about 1.5 hours. Dark garnet color. Great nose of roasted plums, bloody meat, balsamic reduction and other savory aromas. Really great nose. On the palate there were flavors of plums, black cherries, a bit of toasted oak, maduro cigar wrapper and a touch of chocolate. Medium+ acid, medium tannins, smooth mouthfeel and a long finish. This wine was hitting on all cylinders for me.

Before dinner, this was given about 3 hours of decanting, then put back in the bottle for an hour or two, then decanted another hour. Before decanting, this was hard to appreciate, as the tannins were rock solid and there was an unpleasant bitterness that dominated the flavor. After decanting, this was smooth and gorgeous, with a long finish, well-integrated alcohol and tannins, some dark fruit and wood, and no bitterness.

Very dark, with a subdued but interesting nose of mushrooms and spice. Rather hefty and still very tannic, with good acidity, but still tightly wound. This has plenty of potential, but is still a bit severe, with a slightly sour finish. I won't touch my other bottles for at least three years, at which time the score might rise. Dirink between 2015-2025.

Color: Beautiful dark garnet/brick red and showing some age.
Nose: Masculine, savory nose of dusty oak, tobacco, oregano, smoke, and spice, with some leather and earth thrown in for good measure. The fruit is in the background, but present, with a sweet and sour aroma of mixed cherries. Modern, but very authentic and expressive.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and velvety smooth.
Palate: Really nice. Dry but fresh, with a great balance of sour cherry fruit, acid, earthiness, and tannin structure that supports but doesn't overwhelm. It has a nice spicy component and some balsamic as well, and it finishes clean and long with flavors of cherry and herb, and supple, ripe tannins.
Very classy wine. It's not the most complex or traditional Brunello, but the balance and elegance and quality of flavor are very impressive. Drinking beautifully right now with a long life ahead. Very glad I have more.

Quite opaque deep red with slightly bricking rims. A bit reticent, but very fragrant and lovely bouquet with mature aromas of wizened sour cherries, saddle leather, some licorice and hints of marzipan. Relaxed, medium-bodied and moderately tannic palate with high acidity and lots of depth. Layered flavors of sour cherry, sweaty leather, dusty earth, some clove and understated dry wood nuances. Long, pure and complex finish with classic Tuscan flavors of sour cherry, leather, dried herbs, some dried cherry and hints of earth.
This Brunello is not a big or massive monster wine, but instead an elegant, nuanced and sophisticated Sangiovese. There is some nice aged complexity to the wine and it is drinking wonderfully right now, but I can see it can still benefit from further aging. The wine has good structure so it can withstand some heartier foods, but it is lovely even on its own. Worth its price at 49,90€.

First bottle was corked so I popped another to replace it and I am glad I did. Amazing nose on this wine with just a little air. Sour cherry, tobacco, charcoal, chocolate and some slight gamey notes on the tail end. The nose was really a joy to smell. Black cherry, roasted plum, balsamic flavors on the palate with some nice toasted oak flavors coming through. Medium plus acid with medium tannins. This wine is drinking exceptionally well right now and I see no reason to not enjoy it. Great finish too. Wow.

Clearly a food wine. Very attractive and perfumed nose with black cherry, menthol, dried herbs, cocoa and old oak. Very tight to start with on the palate, dry tannins, not as expressive as on the nose but opened nicely if a bit too late. Would recommend to decant at least 4 hours before drinking. I enjoyed the wine much more later after the tannins had soften and the fruits become sweeter and more intense om the palate. Serious Brunello!

C: Ruby. N: Very earthy, fresh soil, cherry and dried herbs. Smoky- scorched wood. P: Dusty cellar, dry cherry, fresh and dried herbs with loads of earthiness. NY/NJ Offline at Ciano (Ciano, NYC): Tight at first but it does open up very nicely in the glass. Medium dark color. Red cherry, leather and savory soy sauce on the nose. Similar notes on the palate with high tannin and acid. Nice stuff. I had it along with three other wines in front of me and I kept going back to it.

drunk from a 0.375L bottle This is more modern than the Mastrojanni (drink the day before), more ripeness. Very dark-coloured, not showing its age. More powerful and very good as well but in a different style. I did miss the elegance and finesse of the Mastrojanni. This one will outlive the other though.

While I agree with the WOFW reviewers that this will appeal very much to the "international" palate, why is this necessarily wrong when the wine is as well made and as beautiful as this one is? Sometimes it is good to be different, so long as you don't sell it as something it is not. Anyway, getting down off the soap box...fairly deep, but not fully opaque, in colour; signs of development in the mahogany rim. Birght ripe fruit nose, plenty of cherries and a menthol lift. Some savoury/roasting meat notes too. Palate is exceptionally well polished. The fruit is ripe, but held in excellent balance with the lively acidity to give it a wonderfully smooth and silky feel. A little spice, a very small dollop of cream, and an excellent length makes this a very well polished wine indeed. Has enough umph and structure to go another 5 years or so.

Opened about 2 hours before drinking with bucatini and meatballs with tomato sauce. Aroma has cherry, as well as hints of mint and tar. Taste of cranberry, raspberry and dark chocolate. Still pretty tight and dry, but has good flavor. Finish has some plum flavor, too. I knew this was opened too earliy, but was still enjoyable. I'll be interested to see how this develops over time.

Woodsy, autumnal nose - with a hint of cinnamon or cumin and a whisper of Thanksgiving morning. Orangish halo, medium viscosity. A floral light citrusness, with undertones of pink pepper and bergamot-scented granite.
It's got a lot of flavor - would go well with smoky tastes. Suave and sophisticated, with a nicely balanced tannicness. A good cheese wine, or perhaps short ribs, or a wild boar ragu.
Goes down easily.

Vino 2009 Brunello Room (Hilton Hotel, New York): Medium ruby color. Closed on the nose, with some elements of earth and spice. Fiercely tannic on the palate, with touches of sweet fruit peeking through. There's clearly something here, but it's hard to get a good impression right now. 89+?

This sucker was almost pop and pour. Came out of the bottle elegant and vibrant so we shoved a paper towel in the decanter to slow it down in time for the steaks. Held up beautifully. A real beaut. Leather and mushrooms and plenty of earth, wrapped in balanced fruit

This is more modern than the Mastrojanni (drink the day before), more ripeness.
