A dark black red hue. Some signs of aging. An open bouquet on the nose. Perfumed cassis, black berries, and violet floral notes. Also some darker savory spices, licorice, leather and (maybe?) chocolate notes. Mature. On the palate, this has great energy with notes of dark berry fruit, spice, and integrated but still quite penetrating acidity and tannins. Great structure but mature and well balanced at this point. This is really excellent with a concentrated, sappy, and electric midpalate and a long, lingering fruit and spice filled finish. Good minerality, which I don’t usually associate with CA Cab. Reminds me of many top Pauillac wines in riper years. I would say near peak right now, but has the stuffing to last another decade+ if desired. This was much more impressive than the last bottle I tasted.

This was as solid a bottle of ‘06 NV Cab that I’ve had. Superior to the Beringer Reserve and the regular Rameys for sure. The Annum had a nose of smoke, berry and tar and this translates in the palate where a rich, sweet black berry compote is framed by leather and cracked pepper. Still lots of life and enough acidity and tannin to make it to a 21st birthday and while I’m reminding myself, son was born in ‘06 so I’m glad I have two more. Truthfully, enjoy from here on out.
I often find that over about 12 years my corks can be variably crumbly and require an ah-so to remove. This was no exception and our waiter and his manager at the BYOB optional restaurant struggled mightily to remove the cork without having to push it back into the wine. For that they earned a taste of the wine and a good tip.

Decanted and enjoyed with a grilled ribeye and grilled vegetables. Seems hard to believe that’s been ten years since I last drank a bottle of this…David Ramey always makes a quality, cellar worthy wine. Lots of positive development while this has been “sitting”. Drinking well, but not yet at maturity: grainy tannins, blackberry liqueur, cassis, juicy black cherry, drying black plum, dark chocolate, and black stony earth. Structure is very evident leading me to believe this has still a ways to go. Can drink now, but this could improve over the next 3-5 years. Drink through 2026+.
Oh, and to those who’ve had broken corks, I used a cork puller, but still had to “hand rotate” the final 1/2 inch to preclude the cork from breaking. Be careful with these corks….🙁🙁🙁

Color: As dark and fresh with no bricking at all. N: Very young, with a pronounced raspberry syrup note and dark fruit. P: Much more subdued than the nose implied, this still drank so young, with notes of dark and red fruit. Medium body with integrated tannin and mild acidity. F: Medium and smooth.

Nice well aged and represented. Moderate depth, clean fruit. The last bottle of this I had a few years ago was almost "gritty" in the mouth. This was clean. Pleasing acidity, integrated tannins and decent length to the fruit and overall experience. Not a blockbuster but not a weak cab imitator, either. A certain sense of nobility overall? A little Bordeaux-ish IMO.

Wonderful layers on the palat of toast, blueberries, ripe figs and licorice. This wine has very well. It's at its peak and maybe in decline as the nose isn't as pronounced as other bottles. The finish is very nice and pleasing.

Opened in bottle for 3 hours. Remained tannic with strong alcoholic heat throughout the night. Cherry cough syrup, oak, cassis liqueur, milk chocolate, and some minerality. Needs 5 more years but will likely always be on the sharp side.

Camphor on the nose. On the palate, blackberry, black cherry, currant, and notes of tobacco and earth on the medium finish, with light tannins and good acidity. This seemed somewhat monotone at first, and it was noticeably better on the second day, so it's probably early in its drinking window. It threw a small amount of heavy sediment, so it may profit from decanting both for that and for the aeration. Average to good value at about $60.

Decanted one hour. Nose of blackberry, blueberry, sour cherry, vanilla. On the palate, rich with black currant, cassis, vanilla, hints of espresso. Finishes with sturdy tannins as a whiff of alcohol. Very well made in a style I don't prefer.
Fantasic balance AND power. Dark fruit and long finish. Decanted 1 hour, could have used two or three. Looking forward to drinking 6 more in the cellar after a few years aging.

This was a replacement bottle from the winery for a corked 2001 Jericho Vineyard (in about 2011). Ruby/purple in color. The nose is really nice. Complex layering on the nose with black raspberries, kirsch, earthiness and some charcoal. The palate is full and robust and tastes quite young. Delicious and easy to drink but also very interesting. Still not showing a lot of development but it can be sensed underneath. Very nice and I am glad to see a company stand behind their product.

Dark, near-inpenetrable purple-black. Thick, syrupy black cherry juice on the nose. My immediate thought was that this is a baby with strong, gripping tannins that have a long way to evolve. Notes of dark chocolate covered black cherries with about the same amount of sweetness as the candy would have. Some ripe but not overly sweet plum mixed with moderately sweet blackberries. Quite fruit-forward. Somewhat one-dimensional, but I suspect it will gain nuance with age. I will also hazard that this wine has 25 good years ahead of it. Rating partly based on future potential.

I really like the 2006 vintage and am a fan of Ramey's. This is a spectacular bottle at the price point. Perhaps that is more of a comment on pricing than on quality. Perhaps for 70-80 bucks one should expect this sort of wine, but alas, I do not. Dusty tannins, not complex yet, but a very mouthfilling experience. This is a black-fruited wine that is not overly "cheery", so don't expect the happy fruit bomb.

A solid Napa cab performer - brilliant nose of dark berries, forest floor funk, and chocolate/espresso/vanilla. Taste matched nose and mild acidity let flavors linger in the mouth. When tasted, a menthol/mint flavor comes out. Great mouthfeel and the fine tannins led to a good finish with all the flavors having a chance to play again. Glad I have more of this.
